For anyone who has one or wants one but is worried about grip, I modified the handle of mine with sandpaper and made it 100% more comfortable for myself, then modified it for my friend after he bought it from me. It's not difficult and you won't mess it up if you're willing to go slow.

The original RTAKs and early RTAK IIs used 1095. They changed it to 5160. Now, I believe they use 1075. It's a great design. Ontario's quality control needs improvement. I bought one a month ago, and the edge has an s curve to it. It's functional, but I guess I'm a little OCD, because I want to get a better made one. I love the design, as I do most of the RAT and ESEE knives.

Cool review. I feel the same way about my Junglas. I did add a finger-choil to it to give me a bit more control for finer tasks though, I'm usually not that big on finger-choils but it really helps a lot with a knife this size.

I have medium-small hands and have a HOOMUNGLAS. In general, extra handle is not a bad thing. It gives you options for grip and security during use. Almost every knife I buy with handles "perfectly sized for my hand," aren't.

I absolutely love this knife! It's 2020 and still one of my favorite knives. Can't beat the price and quality of this huge knife. for the longest time I used to think this looked like an oversized kitchen knife but after purchasing it and using it, I found it to be a knife worthy of carrying with you when you go camping or hiking. This knife does it all and is the pre-cursor to the Esee Junglas. It's really not that heavy, and I would rather carry this than a big ass ax. I love this knife and certainly looks like the more expensive Buck Hoodlum except without that ridiculous cutaway on the blade. I think Ontario's switch to 5160 was a genius move considering 1095 chips under extremely cold temperatures in the winters here in central Canada while at the same time not increasing the price on this fine knife. I will certainly be getting a kydex sheath made for this knife because it deserves an awesome sheath. This knife could certainly save your life in the woods someday!! This is a knife worth handing down to your grandchildren someday. It's indestructible!!!

Do you still have it? I regret not getting one and now I only found one in 1095 that had bad reviews. Esse has a better warranty but it's almost twice the price
@DoloresVillatoro-ho5jg3 ай бұрын
Your Skrama knife there has a lot of pitting on the metal due to porosity when the knife was made, definitely not a good sign. I got my OKC RTAKII a day early, it's the 125th Anniversary edition and I love it. It came with a black leather sheath instead of that horrible nylon sheath that the standard RTAKII knife comes with. Can't wait to try mine out in the bush.

Ive had the Rtak-2 for years , and love it . The older ones where made out of 1095 . As far as the handle , I rounded mine over with my dremmel and it really helped with the blockiness of the micarta . The Esee Junglas is a great knife , and Rowen 1095 is one of my favorite field steels , but where you live , I think the 5160 is a better choice because of its super toughness , and its also wicked easy to sharpen . HEY , Whens the next Dick Head Survival ?? I cant wait to see it .

Can anyone tell me the specifics of this knife?? I called Ontario and a nice lady said that it had micarta handles and 1095 steel. Other than that they had no records. Anybody got more detailed info? Thanks
@subroc46 жыл бұрын
I've always had my eye on the BK9 for that sort of stuff, but can't justify buying one right now. The Junglas/RTAK2 looks cooler, but I've never been sure of how the flat grind would do for batoning. Didn't give you a problem? I kind of really want a Junglas, don't give me an excuse.
