Bugger. I started reading the comments 3 minutes in, but I went back and clicked on the stealth link and voted. DBK did a small test with the Hultifors Classic Felling axe. Maybe you could expand on that? Oh, and I am not a happy camper...this video is what I was going to do for my first 'bushie' type clip. I've lived in the scrub (thegreenbus.wordpress.com for an insight), but I've just restocked my knife and bush type stuff things and was going to make a video based on all the channels I am watching...I guess I'll still do it and reference you with a specific link :)
@BradGryphonn7 жыл бұрын
I'm just over half-way in now. It's a thing I do. Anyway, I'd crush some dry gum leaves as tinder. As for the 'Light My Fire', my $3 stick (I bought 2) is arguably better :). Your comment at around 16:00 are interesting. Maybe it's the reason why I (at 53 but closer to 54) am finding it hard to start making KZbin specific videos. Like you say, I wasn't raised in a computer age. However, as a side note, I saw the birth of what was first coined as 'Web 2.0'; Twitter, Facebook, KZbin etc. and back then (late 90s early 2000s) I was working in IT and missed a lot of opportunities that I *should* have not Don't even talk to me about the thousands of Bitcoins I 'deleted' back in the early 00's because I didn't see a future in them. Back on subject, I have been out bush a few times in the past months, but haven't taken a photo, let alone shoot video. Okay, end of ramble, you're inspiring me. One Q, where are you based roughly?

a little tip for removing a hot bottle without grabbing it is to use your shoelace and a stick. find a stick wide enough to hit both sides of the inner wall and around finger thick, tie a knot around it in the middle then drop it in vertically pull up on it so the sides catch the inner lip and you got a bottle on a string. these types of learning experiences really make you appreciate the easy things in life. you learn how not to do shit real fast in these types of situations haha. good job it was fun and funny to watch.

Awesome video. Chillingly realistic, and always more honest than most in the approach - you claim to be what you are and nothing that you aren’t, and that’s we all keep coming back for years.
@jamesf36837 жыл бұрын
First off, a bit of fanmail. Love the videos, keep it up. Being an Australian, it's great to hear something without an American accent and it's nice to have some of the problems (like Australian hardwoods) faced in these situations. Then something you may not have noticed. Survival is spelt wrongly in your video title. I thought you'd want to know as it will affect searches. And last a suggestion for another video. While these 3 item type videos are pretty popular, I think that they are a bit of a game in that you are very unlikely to find yourself in an unexpected emergency situation with a BK7 on your belt. My idea for a challenge would be that you have to carry your survival kit every day for a month before you do your challenge. If you can carry it for a month, it's reasonable to think that you could have it with you when you need it and it would raise a whole load of other issues. A lighter and tinder and a small torch are all feasible to carry every day. A rambo knife isn't. Just an idea that I'd love to see and am too busy, far from the bush and probably just lazy to do.

I love these kinds of videos, where you actually use the gear for mock survival scenarios. IMO it makes for better gear testing than just batoning, feathersticking etc. I agree with you with regards to the suitability of a large knife for survival in bushland like you're in - unless its a full on chopper like the tops el chete. Even then, I'd expect you'd be better served with an axe, a small knife and a shovel.

That ferro rod is a very traditional, old-fashioned variety. Meaning, more iron content and less magnesium. Works, but you need to be a very experienced bushcrafter and have plenty of dry, fine tinder to get it to work when needed. I prefer Exotac over Light My Fire. Much higher magnesium content compared to iron content. Makes lighting fires *much* easier. Compared to a shower of sparks, you get less sparks. But you get very tiny burning chunks of magnesium falling onto your tinder. That's going to ignite with a ton less effort.

That fire rod is actually pretty good, you know what ist good ? that striker, i struggled aswell a few weeks ago to light uo a fire with that exact same light my fire rod, took me over 5 minutes of trying without any progress but as soon as i striked the fire rood with the spine of my knife, it took me 1 or 2 strikes to get that fire going, so a sharp spine would really have made it easier for you.
