I'm a disabled vet working 50+ hour weeks in surgery at the VA making sure my brothers get the best in the OR. I live payday to paday and am grateful for that. Not the American dream I grew up thinking was obtainable with hard work and living a moral life. It's crushing to know Ill do this til I die and nobody cares. This song speaks to so many men just going through it. Love that you guys covered this.

Thank you brother. I don't know where you're at but one of these days you might be working on my back. Literally broke myself for this bullshit both in service and out. I don't say that like it's something special either. This world is built on the backs and shoulders of men willing to do what's necessary to make society run. It's high time we kick these corrupt, geriatric scumbags to the curb and get back to creating the world we all envisioned. I don't have much left to give but I will damn sure give what's left to set things right.

I looked at my paycheck the other day, I worked 95 hours. 41 of those hours - a full-time job - went towards paying taxes, so politicians can send more money and weapons to Ukraine, or drone-strike kids in the Middle East, or pay their corporate buddies. It's more accurate to call yourself a wage earner and a tax slave. You have a choice to work wherever you want. You're forced to pay taxes.

The problem is our debt based fiat monetary system. Inflation taxes poor and middle class and allows government to get huge funded by inflation, and swells asset prices of the wealthy. The rich get richer and poor get poorer. The solution is to end federal reserve, outlaw fractional reserve lending, and go back to gold and silver money. Stop inflation to stop the theft and shrink government.

It went up to 7,000,000 in 4 days. This is our anthem. I have two sons, who are young men. The line where he says, "young men putting themselves 6 feet in the ground." Hit me hard, because it's happening, and no one is talking about it. Oliver Anthony is our blessing. I got goosebumps the first time I watched this video. I also watch every reaction I come across, so I can click the "like" button.

Even in the reaction videos, no one mentions that hard hitting line. Damn shame for sure. Mother of two boys, and little sister to seven older brothers here, married to a vet, Army combat veteran for a husband who now is a blue collar working man. That line hit hard for him. No one talks about it, and yet we have a real problem with our men feeling displaced these days. I feel this one as well.

My husband cried to this song! He’s a hard working man, and we have two new children. Trying to buy a house in the middle of drowning in this economy has caused so much financial stress. We’re there for each other and I help as much as I can, handling all our finances and trying to find a remote job to do while preparing for homeschooling. I can’t help but feel what he feels, and to know that everyone else feels this way too is heartbreaking. I’d say it’s time for a revolution, but as long as everyone feels like they’re drowning by themselves, nothing will be done. This song is bringing us all together, helping us realize we’re not alone, we’re not doing something wrong. It’s the government fucking us all while telling the working man he’s racist, homophobic, transphobic, bigoted and toxic. Everything is beating down the blue collar man. If we just punched back…

@hannahsherman6900 Be strong. Especially in the homeschooling. I’m the father of three beautiful girls, all homeschooled. We’ve struggled to get by for the last 21 years so they could be brought up right. Sometimes I was working 100 hours a week. Right now I get up at 2am to go to work. They are worth every sacrifice.
@PlebeianFemale
@PlebeianFemale Жыл бұрын
@@donjackson5522 I agree! In this economy I’ll definitely have to do some kind of work. As much as it stresses me out, I’ve considered taking in a couple kids of my working mother friends to babysit for money. And Greg’s job is a bit restrictive since it’s so physically demanding, he can’t physically do the job for more than 12 hours a day. I don’t wish that for him anyways. None of the elders in our family understand the truth of the economic situation, and have all refused to take us into their big empty homes, as much as they love us and talk about how they don’t see their grandchildren enough. We asked for one year, of paying half of their tiny mortgage, so that we could save up instead of paying 2k rent. Then we could get a house. But they’ve resolved that they want their alone time and aren’t entitled to help us. It’s probably because we’re not Christian, and we don’t parent how they did. That’s fine, that’s they’re choice. But now we’re drowning, and will be until this economy collapses. And then what? I hope it means we can afford a home and we won’t be affected. But will it affect his job, the jobs of my friends? There’s so much to worry about right now. It’s been hard staying away from alcohol and CBD, cause we know that in our current states we’d end up abusing both and avoiding the problem. We need to live through this stress for the sake of our kids.

"Oliver Anthony really does punch down on the poor. The lives of ordinary working people are being torn apart by the rich, he laments, but we can fix it if we cut welfare - and taxes too. Listening to the lyrics in that context, I came to understand why the song had gone viral among rightwing figures in the US. It’s a classic example of the divisive narrative that bosses have used to pit worker against worker since the days of Joe Hill. If the poor are fighting one another over racial hierarchy or cultural grievance, their anger will be directed away from the people responsible for their plight - the rich who exploit those in work and abandon those in need." Billy Bragg 2023
@Ssshortman

@DjWellDressedMan you need to listen to it again. He isn't punching down on the poor, he's pointing out the corruption in the system and the misuse of welfare. Why should his overtaxed dollars go to pay for the obese to milk the system or a 5'3" / 300lb lazy person scarfing down fudge rounds while he works himself into an early grave? He's just pointing out what we all see. This song isn't a right wing anthem, it's a heartfelt call from the soul of the people. That's why it's gone viral, He's speaking the truth.

F-Politicians making 80k/year who complain that their not being payed enough. Even 'state-level' politicians who complain that 30k/year is 'to little'. I'm a grown ass 40 year old man and I don't feel things on the deep level very often but this broke me. I teared up a bit. It reminded me of growing up poor in rural SC and picking cotton and tobacco when I was 12-13 years old out in the country during the Summer. Weeding the soybean fields, pulling up potatoes and peanuts because if I didn't my family couldn't eat. I feel like I never fully felt how hard it was until this song and it hit me like a brick wall. This was therapy for me.

We weren’t just to keep individual weapons but have an organized structure in the case of a tyrannical coup. Don’t let our men who died or were forever maimed for this country become meaningless. Without a middle class, those with will completely trod down all of us withouts. We must maintain a buffer between these two variables or we will loose all of of liberty. The Constitution was framed to protect our God-given rights. Our rights do not belong to any government. Our government MUST be of, by, and for the PEOPLE - not corporations. If the poor are fighting one another over racial hierarchy or cultural grievance, their anger will be directed away from the people responsible for their plight - the rich who exploit those in work and abandon those in need." As a veteran and a father of 4 young men, this song shut me down. It broke open emotions I normally don't have to deal with. I fear for my sons entering this nation as adults in a time where they are blamed for every ill just because they are men. Truth speaks to truth, and this one hit me hard. I make more money at this point in my life than I've ever made before, and less to show for it than ever. The cost of everything has at least doubled. My work gets harder, responsibilities get deeper, and the rewards for it continue to diminish. We're at a time when we're more focused on mutilating children to suit their parents' polilitical ideology than we are on addressing the rates of suicide in veterans and young men. Our priorities are way off.

this guy Oliver was a bit of a troubled soul dealing with depression and other similar mental ailments and alcohol issues. then one day it just broke him and brought him to his knees. he was never really a religious man but he made a promise to God that he would go sober if He helped him fulfill his dream. about 30 days later he had a friend invite him over to make a video to upload and this was the song recorded. as with about about 1-2 days of release he's blown up faster than a fat man at cracker barrel buffet. The amount of passion he shows as he belts his heart out grasps everyone's attention as nothing else in the music media today shows this level of emotion. But above all this is a song that everyone can relate to. We're all in the same boat here in america and we're the only one's that can fix this and come together as americans. Screw being divided. You're FAR from awake if you think that 'presidents' have any power. They have NO power. It's all a huge game of fooling the public by having 2 'sides' play off each other and has been that way for countless decades. That's how they have gotten ahead decade by decade for longer than we've been alive. Do you not really notice that when in office Bushes hate Clintons and Obama, and vice versa, yet when1 day out of office they are all 'best buddies'. That's the game! ANY president that even tries to go against them will end up like JFK within a few months and certainly won't live longer than 2 years of his 4 year term. No amount of agents could protect a president. Presidents haven't called the shots ever since the presidency was fully controlled after JFK's demise, which was 60 years ago. You need to understand the very powerful UNelected 'cartel' that has been pulling the strings of all presidents for over the past 6 decades. Understand how they built up that incomprehensible power by studying how the 1913 Federal Reserve was created, along with all their other global institutions. The 'cabal/cartel' of very powerful players tried this same takeover back in 1935, but thankfully it was thwarted by General Smedley Butler. He was their key man and they thought he could be trusted to do their evil deeds, but he spilled the beans on the entire plot. Not much different operation that what's happening today.

08:50 “I hope he doesn’t get cancelled, bc he was spitting facts”…think about what that man just said. We the ppl can get cancelled for saying the truth…what kind of country has the US become? This is not what America stands for, the worry of being cancelled for speaking the blatant truth. Think about this my fellow citizens and then think about what kind of future we want in this country for our kids.

I know I'm just a random comment in a sea of epic responses, but I want to say that I'm a brand new listener who found yall while enjoying many reactions to this incredible song, and I consider yall's reaction and vibe to be the most inviting and comfy out of all the new channels I checked out during this rabbit hole. Godspeed.

I’m a 32 year old mom of 4 kids from 14-6 and this song gutted me. I am so terrified for my children with how this world is going. This song hit so hard because it’s so true. We shouldn’t be struggling how we are.

Oliver Anthony's next song should be "My name is Oliver Anthony, and I'd never commit suicide" These demons can't handle being called on their shit.

I'm 50. This got me in my feels big time. I went on medical leave for a still unknown autoimmune disorder and they decided to part ways with me a week after my 25 year anniversary. Meant I spent half my life busting my body in a factory.

I finally said fuck it. I get by, but life's too short to waste it away on a company who's not gonna give a shit if I die tomorrow cause I'm expendable in their eyes.

FYI, according to an interview he did a couple of days ago, when Oliver Anthony recorded this song and shot the video he had been just 30 days sober. He said he dropped to his knees and asked God for help to kick his addiction to alcohol, and all I can say is SOMETHING very powerful is working through him. This is one of those rare moment we all get to witness where someone creates something truly great, and shares it with the world. We don't get to witness such moments but a handful of times in a lifetime, and I feel privileged to be witnessing this one. I've now heard this song no less than 50 times over the past three days, but the very first time I head it I knew I was witnessing something very special, and I also knew this young man's life was about to change more profoundly than he could ever have imagined. I truly hope he's ready for it, and I hope he has some good guidance along the way, because I think he's in for a hell of a ride now. I'd also like to point out that one of the genius aspects of this song is it offends NO ONE! It doesn't play to one group while slighting another. Nor is this just a song for Americans. I've seen people all around the globe already commenting on what this song means to them. This song will truly connect with EVERY working class human being EVERYWHERE in the world, and it doesn't matter their gender, their sexual orientation or the color of their skin. This is one message EVERYONE can come together on. Wouldn't it be even more special if this humble man living his humble life was the one to bring us all back together? One can hope.

Correction on offending no one. It offends politicians. But nailed all the major points. Beautiful song.

The worst thing about this song is I’ll never be able to hear it for the first time again. It hits hard. Amazing writing. Initial reactions are sad, but anger at the mess we’re in quickly follows.

I had my grandfather's 1927 Dobro. In 2009, I had to sell it to pay my property taxes. It makes me cry to hear a resinator play, but put these words with it, and I am sobbing. This young man is a God's Blessing. He has said what we could not and released it through song. ' Perserve Me,Oh God for in Thee do I put my Trust ' Psalms 16:1
