Bypass the limiter. It is only there to prevent overheating if you put high-wattage bulbs in and that no longer is needed with LEDs. The limiter has one or two white wires (common/neutral) plus a black and a red wire. Turn off the power, cut the black and red wires at the limiter, strip the ends, and put a wire nut on them. That’s all it takes. Simply cut and connect the black and red wires to bypass the limiter. No need cut the white wires or remove the limiter.

Thanks dude! It took a few minutes to be sure I was cutting out the limiter. Works like a charm. I will be the only one changing bulb and will always replace with correct watt (important). Might even replace the limiter. Will trash fan if we ever sell the place.

This fixed the fan in my spare bedroom that's been flashing on just like in the video. Just knowing the limiter was the issue makes the connections fairly straightforward. In my case after unscrewing the light section there were 2 snap-together connectors holding the light kit to the motor housing. Once I separated them I could set the kit aside and accessing the limiter was easy (though less convenient since I had to do this all on a ladder instead of on the floor, boo).

Other options to try: Take out one bulb and the rest will work. Replace them all with LED and they will work.

@@matthewmorton211 Great tips! The only thing with removing one bulb is that a resident will call that in as a work order. So the only route to go for rental units would be to switch over to LED bulbs. Thanks for watching Matthew & hell support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍

That might work but the limiter is there for a reason. It keeps you from putting bulbs of higher wattage than specified in the fixture which can overheat and cause a fire.
@freewaybaby
@freewaybaby 3 жыл бұрын
Well, if you leave the stupid limiter in, you won’t have ANY light, soooo, rather than pay someone to replace parts a couple of times a year, I would rather limit the size bulbs I use, which I’ve done all my life anyway.
@BBQPitmaster626
@BBQPitmaster626 3 жыл бұрын
@@freewaybaby Brian is correct, and there is something else. The voltage and current spike coming in because of the inrush caused by starting the the fan motor is also dangerous for the lights. There is nothing stupid about being safe. Either replace the part or get a new fan. Small price to pay rather then having a fire and possibly killing someone. Don’t be cheap, be a professional.

These should be rated for 60 watt bulbs. With LED, you get the same light with much less wattage. Limiters have zero legitimate safety purpose, they exist to be a money maker for the manufacturer.

Sir, my fanimation fan light would turn off on its own after a few min. Sometimes it turns on with remote but it will continue to go off after some time. Fan operation seems ok I tried led bulb but same issue. Now it’s where hitting the remote won’t turn on light (the red led light on remote actually won’t come on so maybe remote lighting function failed. However, remote red led turns on if I turn on fan. 9 volt battery reading 9.5v. Could I be having limiter issue and perhaps a bad remote?
@ApartmentMaintenance

Yes it definitely sounds like either the remote or the limiter. Thanks for watching Andrew & Subscribe to the channel 👍

Okay I'm just a little confused. I can easily take both the white and blue out of the wire nuts. You say lose the red to the switch got it. Where I'm confused is you say connect the black to the black. I'm assuming you are talking about the black going to the switch. Am I cutting out the switch as well? Or am I cutting the black to the switch and running that to the other black wires?
@DavidLee-vs4bv

Think my dumb ass figured it out, my red goes straight to the switch so I'm going to cut half way and connect red from switch to black wires🙏

@@ApartmentMaintenance youre welcome, but all we had to do is replace the burnt bulb and it worked fine. I think it could've been a limiter or a bulb was just in the process of burning out. We couldn't turn it on for 10 seconds after consecutive flicking of the switch nothing happened
@ApartmentMaintenance
@ApartmentMaintenance 4 жыл бұрын
@@Chris14_ That's good then. But if you notice the bulb burns out again in the near future it definitely is the limiter cuz that is another sign that it is bad, it will keep burning out bulbs every so often so just keep your eye on it. 👍👍

Sounds like the switch on the wall has a bad connection or a loose wire. Try flipping the switch off & on a few times while wiggling it left to right alittle bit. If you see the fan & light coming off & on as you do that then thats the problem. If that doesn't make a difference, it could be a loose wire, or wire coming out of a wire nut where it's hooked up on the ceiling. I would definitely say it's a power issue in some shape or form, & would think the fan & light itself is fine. Chances that both go bad at once are very rare. Why is there a need for a limiter?
@ApartmentMaintenance
@ApartmentMaintenance 5 ай бұрын
So someone doesn't put a bulb in that is more watts than the manufacturers specified wattage rating cause it can overheat. With everything being LED now a days it's not really an issue cause a 60 watt equivalent LED bulb will only use around 9 watts. Great question Jepper80 & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍

My issue is that I have a problem with the light going out with a 100 watt LED bulb but it doesn't do it with a 75 W incandescent bulb. The 100W LED is actually rated at 16.5W. I think the 75 W is an actual rating. I actually checked with another 100W LED and same thing. This is a single bulb fixture, the fan is a Hunter Coastal Breeze. I've worked the light pull chain several times, no difference. What's happening?
@ApartmentMaintenance

@@jepper80 Something with that 100W LED bulb that the fan doesn't like or the limiter could be bad. If it doesn't do it with a 75 watt bulb I would just use that. Or switch to a 75 watt LED bulb which should be brighter.
