Scared out of my wits to attempt my first ever electrical project. The pull chain in my bedroom ceiling fan light quit working. I didn't have a clue how to fix it and hiring an electrician over a 3-day holiday weekend was not a budget friendly option for this old retired lady. I watched your video while replacing the pull chain switch. After turning the power back on I started laughing and screaming for joy. Everything works again. Thank you thank you thank you.

If you bend a sewing pin into a tiny hook shape you can fish the broken chain piece through one of the holes on the bottom of the switch. Then tie a peice of string to the bottom of the chain and push the chain and string up through the bottom hole back into the switch. Then use the hook again to hook onto the string and pull it out the main chain hole. Then you can either use the string as your new chain or pull very hard on the string to expose enough of the chain to attach a new chain extension to it. The whole thing took me about 10-15 minutes. Make sure the string you're using is very strong but thin enough to fit through the holes when knotted. Fishing line would work good I used

This video was very useful like the other videos on how to replace a light kit pull chain switch, and once you do it so often, then it feels like that a broken pull chain switch isn’t really nothing, unless it depends on what light kit you’re doing it to.

What if the replacement switch you buy has three wires (one black, one blue, one red) instead of just the two black? Where do the blue and red go?
@KyleMerl4 жыл бұрын
If you have the correct switch there should be wires to match each of the wires on the new switch. You can look at how the original is wired up before removing it so you know how to wire up the new one correctly.

@@KyleMerl you have two black wires coming out and you wire nutted one of the black wires. Where did the other black wire go? That's my major problem and question, where is does that loose wire go? You did not show that part in the video. I replaced mine and the fan works but the light doesn't go on when I pull the chain and I assume because the looses wire needs to go somewhere? Please advise. THANK YOU

I can't figure out for the life of me how to wire my damn ceiling fan. I have never been more stumped in my life. My light went out and I figured that it'd be a simple fix. I couldn't have been any more wrong. My pull chain has one wire but I have no clue where it goes.

Yea they're all different so it's hard to say. How many lights are on it? Are there any groups of black wires that are wire nutted together?

You can also use different colored electrical tape to make each wire that was connected to the same wire nut. So this way you're color coding the wires so you know how to put them back together
