Nice video; thanks. After a lifetime using wire nuts, I have become very fond of Wago connectors.

Great video, thank you! BTW at 5:40 on the video... do you know how to seperate the white connector shown on the middle-bottom of the screen? (for single blue and white wires). Trying to avoid breaking the connector so I can add a new module. Thank you.
@fixthemthings10 ай бұрын
Those white connectors just pull apart. You can push on the small tab but it should just come apart. Hope that helps.

awesome video....cud you please suggest what's wrong with my fan: worked one nite next day it stopped. pulling the light string the lights came on, pulling the fan string the lights were again turning. So something is shorted between the fan and light string switches because the trip didn't go off. The fan turned on once at low speed but stopped. turning on the fan again today i heard a humming sound. Again pulling the fan chain turns the lights on!!!

Does gauge of the wires matter while choosing the capacitor? Like 20AWG to 18AWG?

My ceiling fan doen't do anything anymore. The light still works. Does a fan have a fuse that could be broken? Greetings from the Netherlands
@fixthemthings5 ай бұрын
Could be a few things. Most likely the pull chain, fwd/rev switch. Check for burnt wires or bad connections. Check in the ceiling box for the connection to the fan. Should be a blue and black wire.

Question. No only does my fan not work but the light does not work as well. Could the light not working be related to the capacitor not working? Thanks
@fixthemthings Жыл бұрын
No. The capacitor is for the motor only. The light uses the pull cord switch unless you have a remote control.
@ronyeahright95362 жыл бұрын
nice video.....so do all ceiling fan capacitors have 5 wires, with all the same universal colors?? Im a novice do it yours selfer, and have come across various old and new electrical components that sometimes have different colors, which can be confusing. Thanks! you got a "like" !
@fixthemthings2 жыл бұрын
There are many different types. Just match up the uf values. Wire colors really don’t matter. Hope the video helped.

My fan is working summer direction ( Anti-clockwise) but it has stopped working winter direction(clockwise). Any recommendation, what shall I do ?
@fixthemthings2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the reverse switch itself is not working. I wouldn’t think it would go bad unless you switch it all the time. If you switch it a lot then yes it may be bad.

replaced capacitor-still runs slow-can it be motor?
@fixthemthings2 жыл бұрын
The pull chain is probably the problem now. They are really cheaply made. Please check the wires going to the switch and see if they are making contact. With power off of course. If you use the pull chain a lot then I would suspect that. I doubt it will be the motor.

how did you know it was a bad capacitor? i have power to pull chain when pull chain is on i have power to all wires on both side of capacitor but motor doesn't run

Turn fan on high. If it doesn’t start. Spin the fan by hand. If it stays running then bad cap.

@@bquedenfeld ah. Your using a power stick. That won’t give you good reading. Anything close and it picks it up. You need a meter. I would just buy a cap for $7-10. It’s almost always the cap.
