Ceiling Leaking Below Bathroom is what this customer stated on the phone. When I arrived he stated that when his Mom used the bathtub on the third-floor water began to leak into multiple areas in the first-floor living room. No leaks in the 2nd-floor bathroom right below the third-floor bathroom?
I started to run the water in the tub and immediately the toilet which was across the room started bubbling up. I then ran the basin which was next to the toilet and again the water started backing into the toilet bowl. Houston! We have a problem and it appears the soil stack is clogged, but why is water leaking into the first-floor ceiling.
With a little help from my friends from Econo Sewer & Drain company located in Brooklyn, N.Y. we knocked that clog right out! Ran the tub, basin, toilet and everything is flowing, and absolutely NO LEAKS down on the first floor. What's up with that? Open line, a no-hub coupling that's not torqued??. I'll be returning once the ceiling is removed to check it out further, in the meantime enjoy the video.
Happy Plumbing
Bob

I had that once behind a kitchen sink. The horizontal pipe in the wall behind the sink was pitched properly downward, but when you ran the water for some time, it backed up a little further up that line. Next thing you know if there's water coming out from that area. Apparently it was a open line. Not sure if it was ever capped or if it popped off.

Great video. Just confirming, the only time you are allowed to use short 90’s is a closet elbow for toilet, and going from horizontal pipe dropping down to vertical , correct? ( running in ceiling joists and dropping down wall).

My tub is leaking into downstairs apt. Toilet is new and seems fine, only leaks when water goes down actual tub drain. They took the plaster ceiling down and said they could not find the leak. Other plumbers have tried to fix this leak in years past, also were not successful. (it's been leaking for years) ugh

Is it a drain problem or a wall problem ( bad grout, tile etc?) fill the tub a few times to see if it leaks. If not, get a bucket and fill it (not from the tub) throw water on and around the tub/shower faucet. If it leaks, then you have tile/grout/caulking issue..

What an interesting job. Too bad about the camera though... Assuming the leak only appears when using the third floor bath room means the clog and the leak are between the second and third floor correct? And after the clog was removed there is no more leak. I think the leak could be happening at a vertical pipe section (soil or vent) between 2nd and third floor due to a loose conection or unfinished unconnected vent. I hope you can find out!

The 4" stack was simply cracked and leaked whenever any fixture on the 2nd floor bathroom was used.

Sounds like it could block up again as it still has those short elbows rather than long swept bends if one gets a build up of paper or something

@@BobsPlumbingVideos for real. I'm a big believer that the pendulum swings back again though and Craftsmen will once again be in the market with pride and what they do I mean I have pride in what I do I'm no handyman but I'm learning but I'm saying the things I do know I do nicely and I do them right.
