Atlas has a bone to pick with Tyson. I think it's wrong to reduce Mike Tyson purely to his physical abilities. It undermines the hard work it took to get to the top. The guy pretty much lived and breathed boxing when he was under the tutelage of D'amato. He literally did nothing else. Suggesting that he was somehow lazy or unfocused is ludicrous given the copious amounts of training he did and how he was literally brainwashed to become a fighting machine by Cus. Not to mention the endless hours he would spend studying the greats. He started to slack off after the success came and after his mentor passed away. But defining the man by his losses is absolutely ridiculous and totally unjust. You're saying that, by definition, every victory came easy while every loss truly defined him. It's too easy to write off every victory as the result of genetics or some inborn talent.
@CoachZahabi
@CoachZahabi 5 жыл бұрын
Don't forget I was simply stating Atlas is view. I dont agree with him fully but to some extent I do see it his way. Some fighters quit when the fight gets tough. Others keep fighting and never lose hope. Its a question of degrees in my opinion.

I listened to that podcast and he says the reason he never won the big fights was because of the traumatic stuff that happened when he was a kid . Kids would bully him and he’d run and hide between buildings not confront his bullies .. he said nothing to do with his physical attributes. Great podcast Coach

@@justinmunshaw1303 it was a poor attempt at psychoanalysis by a clearly biased person based on very little data. Atlas made zero sense. He brushed off Tyson's victories and claimed that they came too easy due to his athleticism. Why were "childhood fears" a factor in the Buster Douglas fight and not in the Trevor Berbick fight? How was Buster Douglas a greater challenge than Trevor Berbick? All pundits pretty much agree that Tyson lost that fight due to poor preparation which was the result of over-confidence. Tyson himself has said as much. There are countless variables to why a fighter could lose a fight. Lack of focus, poor preparation, overconfidence, too much stress in their personal life etc..

In terms of your question, I would really like to see a Butterfly Guard instructional from you, however, I would be very excited for an omoplata one as well. Additionally, I wanted to ask you questions regarding bottom half guard position when it comes to self-defense/MMA. Is there no hope in this position? Is it a position that is soo disadvantageous in this scenario that it shouldn't be pursued?

Agree on the point about creating more weight classes in the UFC. The problem in boxing is not the number of weight classes, it's the number of sanctionning bodies that creates too many champions in each division.

on the topic of fasting... listening to you speak about it made me wish i could have a discussion with you in real time. there is so much i could say that i dont even know where to begin therefor i will touch on just a few things. the point you made about fasting increasing clarity and possibly even intelligence over time. i have never heard this before and it made me think. i am nearly 36 years old and have been on a severely restrictive diet for more than half my life. i have been eating one meal a day for over twenty years. for me it is just normal. i have never thought of it as fasting. aside from that my calories are also very restricted. one thing i have noted over the last several years despite my malnutrition, my self perceived intelligence has been increasing exponentially. every single day i feel as though i am learning new things. something i have done 10000 times my life i will suddenly discover a new and more efficient way of doing. i find myself amazed and confounded by these occurrences. i ask myself why? why today did this light suddenly switch on to illuminate this new "better" way of doing this random task? i think on the subject despite the fact that all i can really do is hypothesize, i will never have a concrete answer. so far the reason i have settle on was that im in a virtual flight or flight type of state mentally all the time. this forces me to use my 100%. i have put myself in this state as a result of the anxiety issues that i have. you see i suffer from mental illnesses but they are secondary to the topic here. what i am wondering is why even though my self imposed malnutrition must surely have take a toll on my mental capacity as my brain must have surely somewhat wasted away at as the rest of my body has as a means of physical survival and homeostasis. despite this how am i able to seemly increase my intelligence?? i am more creative than i have ever been. i solve problems so much faster. i understand new topics in an almost instinctive and inherent way. its very interesting and like i said i have recently decided that its all due to my anxiety and the cortisol seemingly feeling like its pumping through my body like a hormonal nitroglycerine seeking to constantly blast my emotions into extreme realms with the slightest reverberation of the consequences of a life that is beyond the 100% threshold of our control. anyway the point of "fasting" and intelligence is an interesting one and i hope to hear more about it on your future episodes. much love to you coach.

I don't know if it increases intelligence, but it definitely increases energy and focus. Also, if you are eating based on hunger (not to relieve anxiety) then you start to gain greater control over your impulses, which you can then use in other aspects of life. I started intermittent fasting about 5 months ago and it changed my life for the better

Was TJ really dehydrated though? TJ weighed in at 125 and after the fight he said he came in in the high 40s, which means he had about 20 lbs of water weight on him. Doesn't seem valid to point to dehydration as a factor in TJ's loss, coach.
