While I believe that parasocial relationships have been here for decades (possibly centuries if you look at the British Royal Family), I wonder if our current economic situation is contributing to the rise and volatility of stan culture. The lack of 3rd spaces in society is a massive element of this because it "forces" young people on to the internet in their free time or to hang out with friends. But I want to know why so many people feel comfortable doing heinous shit like doxing/desecrating the grave of someone's mother for a woman who doesn't even care that they exist. It's one thing to feel lonely/alienated but committing crimes for celebrities is wild.

That’s y I can’t follow any celebrity too much because it is so embarrassing to be in a parasocial relationship with someone who doesn’t know you exist. Plus you never really know a celebrity, just what they show u, or what gets exposed. In general, they are doing this for a person that they don’t truly know.
