I think the fact that the doors are such a awesome Rockband is that none of the members was actually a rock musican, Densmore is a jazzer, Krieger a flamenco player, Manzarek was a classical pianist (organist) and Morrison was simply a poet. But They all were in love with music as such, no matter what genre.

@@kekethetoad Inho, Morrisson was no Bob Dylan, and a lot of his poetry was adolescent, naive. I know the words to Wild Child but had never really paid attention to them bc they never touched my soul. I never identified with any of it. Which was part of the Doors mystique for me, besides the great music and Morrisson's vocals. I think they were young and extremely stoned, creative, but had no agenda.

"Shaman's Blues" is the perfect bridge between their earlier, mysterioso sound and the later, grittier, bluesier fare. This is an unfairly under-recognized classic. The jazz waltz rhythm just adds an eerie carousel skip-through-the-wreckage slant to the whole journey. Great lyrics, impeccable playing; how could 8 listeners not get it? That’s great! The Doors have a dark and hypnotic quality to their music. There’s something mystical about it. And the keyboards playing classical sounding melodies all over a Bossa Nova beat at times. I heard people say Densmore was really a Jazz drummer. And they improvise a lot. And the way Robbie and Ray would interweave their playing was masterful at times! Like I said, there something magical about their music that other bands don’t have. A mystical Vibe! And then on top of all that, Jim was a crooner and a good Blues shouter. He could do it all! Their music is like Alchemy. They turned Sound into Gold!

A great blues with an attractive keyboard riff, an infectious rhythm and some sweet guitar soloing. Morrison's usual, abstruse lyrics render a painterly impression of pathos about the old Shamanic soothsayers. His vocals really command a poetic, baritone presence a la Ginsberg. The Door's show us, yet again, how to be deftly clever (both musically and lyrically) and how to rock and roll hedonistically.
