This man is a freak. While all of his contemporaries have fallen prey to their age... he keeps getting BETTER! How???? What a gift!

THIS is a rock and roll singer performing in front of an 80-100 PIECE SYMPHONY and the symphony is trying hard to keep up with his amazing voice! Thank you, Great Spirit, from wherever you may come, for allowing us to be alive when there were folks who could ACTUALLY hit these notes-no Auto-Tune, just auto-talent!

If anything, his voice has aged like wine. His voice peaked between his early 40s and late 50s after he kicked 15+ years of substance abuse (cocaine/alcohol/even a mid 1980s dependence on Mars Bars). He still has a voice that most can only wish for. His chords have persevered much better than any of his fellow one time and/or another Deep Purple vocalist.

A world class performance by Glenn Hughes but also hard on the edge of being soppy/too much. His voice however is in unbelievable shape, what a truly great talent.

I'm a huge fan of Glenn Hughes but I agree completely. Although I'm inclined to give him a pass on the maybe a bit too thick syrup just cause of what the occasion was. If there is an appropriate night for that that was it. As a proud Canadian I should put Geddy Lee on top just he has keys too if nothing else but for style Glenn Hughes all the way. For a guy I've never seen without a simple P Bass and never without a pick hes a fantastic bass player and his singing matches it. And to do both together? That's not easy. My brother can change keys on the fly and sing the lead but if we swap axes not so easy. Never figured out exactly why but bass and lead vocals seems harder. Not near so many who are good at it.

This was the perfect amount of emotion I think. Nothing soppy about this. It was real. If you see the intro to this song where Glenn Hughes speaks about how he and Jon wrote this song alone in the studio you will understand. It was something he needed to get out at the time he said. I am sure singing this song on this occasion brought back all those emotions again. You can't fake that. This was as raw as John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band album. All the hurt and pain needed to get out. Drugs and addiction are only temporary relief that can lead you down a dark road. Glenn is a very real and honest person if you have seen any interviews with him. It was emotionally touching to see him honour Jon like this. A great tribute.

This was rock and roll and when you still have this ability to deliver years later.......Then you've either got a great career as an artist and gravitas or you are schmuck......the you'll need to accept that GO GLENN...X

Glen Hughes adored and loved Jon Lord This is his tribute to Jon and is a world class performance I think As a DP fan from the beginning as band He had to leave the band because of Ian Gillan For the same reason Richie always left the band Always because of Ian Gillan Glen Hughes was so much better I think Beautifull tribute this for Jon...
@CB-xr1eg6 жыл бұрын
Who are you saying had to leave the band because of Ian Gillan, besides Ritchie Blackmore?
@Daniel-415-Ponce3 жыл бұрын
No, Ian Gillan had nothing to do with it, because he and Glenn were never in the band simultaneously. During the 1976 tour, Glenn and guitarist Tommy Bolin both had serious drug problems that began to have a profoundly adverse effect on the quality of the live performances as well as the interpersonal dynamic within the band, so on the night of the last gig of the tour the other band members decided to call it quits. When Deep Purple later reformed in the 1980's, it was the Mark 2.0 version of the band with Ian Gillan. By that time, Glenn had moved on to other projects.
