As many ballplayers have previously stated, nothing in the world can prepare you for the pressure of playing in the World Series. Because of this we see numerous star players crumble under the pressure. However, that has not been the case with Madison Bumgarner who will finish his career as the greatest pitcher in World Series History.

Dodger fan. Bum was amazing. Dominated the playoffs. If Kershaw had half his success in the playoffs he would be up there with the best of all time.

I think he's already up there with the best of all time, but you're right if he had Bumgarner's stats in the playoffs the argument of him being in the top 3 would definitely be there. You must be happy he re-signed last night! Although I think we all were expecting it to come at some point...

When there was something on the line Mad Bum just seemed to elevate his game. He almost felt like the next closest thing to a Randy Johnson at times. And don’t get me started with his bat (boy do I miss NL pitchers batting). As a giants fan I’m so thankful he had his prime here with us and showed us what it was like for a pitchers to take the team on his back and say don’t worry we are going to win.

He was something special for you Giants fans for sure. 3 Chips in 5 years is unbelievable. Closest thing to a "Dynasty" in baseball since the Yankees 3-Peat over 2 decades ago.

I'd have to agree with you. Game 7, bottom 9, 2 outs, runner on third, only up by 1 run. That's where legends are born.

I sent my reasoning behind picking Madbum to someone else in the comments, here it is. “I respect the Gibson choice, but let me explain my thought process behind backing Madbum as the best. It's hard to compare standard stats because Gibson pitched in a time where the mound was higher, thus making the league much more pitcher friendly than when Madbum pitched. But there are relative stats to use such as cWPA. Which stands for championship win probability added. With a change of +/- 100 = 1 World Series game won or lost. There are also stats such as the standard WPA which stands for win probability added. With a change of +/- 1 = 1 win added or lost Bob Gibson pitched 81 innings in the WS and had 72.7% cWPA, and .99 WPA. MadBum pitched 36 innings in the WS and had 121.8% cWPA, and 2.13 WPA. That's my thought process behind picking Madbum as the most impactful/best in World Series history. Again respect the Gibson choice, just explaining why I made a video on Madbum rather than him.”

He had great stats in the competition for sure! But I still have to go with Madbum because In terms of championship win probability added Ford only added 27.2% in 146 IP while Madbum added 121.8% in just 36 IP.

Bob Gibson went 7-2 in 9 WS starts, completing 8 with 2 shutouts, with a 1.89 ERA. 92 Ks and 55 hits in 81 IP. Bumgarner was great but not Bob Gibson great in WS history.

You're right it's pretty crazy to look at pitchers stats from even just a few decades ago to now and see the dramatic change in complete games. Last season only two pitchers (Alcantara and Lyles) pitched 3 complete games. @@VonRye
