In this talk, Maryland-based textile artist and quilter Sandra Smith discusses her work the Celebration of Rhode Island Heritage, a quilt designed for Roger Williams University honoring people of African American heritage who lived and worked in Rhode Island.
Smith details how she started quilting, the history of the project, and how she went about researching the figures and events that are portrayed in the quilt. Smith will also highlight the stories of some of the individual stories featured on the quilt.
