In our previous episode we explored the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the town of Mürren.
This time we'll be taking the "Wengeneralpbahn" to the little town of Wengen. Wengen is a mountain village in the Bernese Oberland of central Switzerland. Located in the canton of Bern at an elevation of 1,274 m (4,180 ft) above sea level, it is part of the Jungfrauregion and has approximately 1,300 year-round residents, which swells to 5,000 during summer and to 10,000 in the winter. Wengen hosts the classic Lauberhorn ski races of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in January.
No visit to the Lauterbrunnen Valley would be complete if we didn't take the time to hop on a cable car up to Birg, where you can enjoy incredible views over the highest peaks of the Swiss Alps. We conquer the "Thrill Walk" at the side of the mountain and then climb up a little higher to Schilthorn, Piz Gloria at 2970m. Here we learn about the making- of of the James Bond movie - "On her Majesty`s Secret Service, which was filmed here back in the 1960s.
For dinner we treated ourselves to a delicious 4-course menu at a fine dining restaurant "Chez Meyer" at the Hotel Regina in Wengen and celebrate Swiss National Day including some beautiful fire works.
