Tell Matt that by planting the row of beautiful flowers in your garden beds you are inviting the bees to pollinate your veggies for you! 😊 My Dad always planted a row of merigolds and sweet peas and holly hock mixed up together at the end of our garden for that reason and he didn’t do that for the beautiful flowers although that was also a benefit - it was for the pollinators to come to the veggies

There are certain kinds of flowers that help certain kinds of veggies by repelling bugs. You can look that up.

One year I was happily surprised to see impatiens blooming next to my tomatoes. After that I just started randomly planting flowers here and there. I get so happy when I see those flowers blooming throughout. Super awesome to know other gardeners do this too! Learning so much. These garden videos are the best! 🌱✌🏼

How exciting! And the sounds of birds, both singing and clucking are music to me. Gorgeous surroundings...what a place to live! I miss it. I was thinking about flowers that seem to come out of nowhere and the sunflowers were all over NC when I was younger there and wherever there was water there were cat-o-nine-tails growing like crazy. Enjoyed the video, thank you for sharing.

Today my heart is so heavy as I worry about the families in TX who have lost their babies, their teachers. Then there are the families in Buffalo who have lost love ones. Just senseless evil. Ur down to earth excitement about ur garden helps me step back & realize part of the world isn’t going mad. I have some little Tommy Toes in the kitchen so I think I’d better get me a snack before I turn out the light. BTW I envy ur energy & Matt needs r praise for accommodating ur flowers. My Daddy hated mowing the yard & having to dodge all Mother’s flowers.

I've never soaked okra before and never had any problems - but this is Florida, hot/dry then damp wet. Your garden is beautiful. I always plant flowers all along my garden - for pollinators and because it makes me happy. My favorite is tall blue salvia which comes back every year plus has tons of children, too. It grows by itself, I never water or fertilize it, it's covered with bees, and it is beautiful. Nothing sweeter than after a good garden workout, to sit in the shade with iced tea and watch the garden hummingbirds, bees, butterflies and plants grow. You know people always have raised their own food until these 'modern' times where others raise it, ship it far away, then we go and spend money for it at something called a grocery store. LOL Now with microwaves, some have forgotten how to even cook - hard to manage a family while working.

We had tornado warnings Wednesday and flood warnings Thursday night and up to noon on Friday. "When it rains, it pours" sure did fit last week. We really needed it though. Thanks to a special friend I have some greasy beans I need to get in the ground. Maybe tomarr it will be dry enough.

Your garden is what most of us dream of having! Every home my husband and I have bought in our 31 years of marriage…not one has ever had an established garden. And every time we have gotten the garden barely workable we have had to sell the house and move on for some reason. I’m hoping our next (and likely last) home has established gardens… but if it doesn’t I surely will be replacing and building up good soil faster than I have when I was younger. Enough is enough already haha!

Tipper, I just loved your May Garden Tour! I just got mine planted here in Montana and have put out my seedlings but for the squashes and peppers. Peppers have never grown well for me because we have so few warm nights, but I have just ordered grow bags (on your recommendation) and will plant my pepper seedlings in those. My hope is that I can move them into the greenhouse my husband is building (as I type) at the end of the season when the nights start cooling off in September. It will be fun to have a greenhouse and the grow bags...my new outfit for growing seedlings worked wonderfully well this year too...I feel like I have a whole new lease on my gardening life : > D Thank you for your encouragement to keep "making a garden".

This was so relaxing. Your garden is really growing. I’m like you. I just keep adding things as I see them. I added two Meyer lemon trees but they’re not doing so great. So glad you’re liking the rattlesnake beans. I’ve gotten others started on them too. Scott Head the pastor who has a KZbin channel tried them and now they’re his favorite. I’m always on the lookout for new things. I planted jet star tomatoes from seed this year. They’re supposed to be disease resistant which we need here in central AL. I also planted two Cherokee purple. I’ve never tried them but when you said they’re y’all’s favorite, I had to try them. I’ll keep you updated if they survive me. God bless sweet online friend.👩‍🌾💙☀️

I have same inclination to put something almost wherever there is remaining space. I am in rural Texas, with woods (oak) all around and one big challenge to me in the garden is poisonous snakes (copperheads particularly). I have neighbors who won't put ANYTHING in (plants/landscape) because they don't want a place for snakes to hide. I just keep a shovel nearby and take my chances. I can't live without getting in the dirt and making something pretty grow. I ENJOYED THIS and I learn so much from you. THANK YOU!

Reminds me of my home in Florida that had a pond behind it. We were always having to get the shovel after the huge moccasin snakes 🐍 that plagued us bc the children were little & toddled about the yard. BUT our shovel was not to gently move them elsewhere. My son-in-law was in TX and told me a tale that you’ll get ten snakes for every one you kill. He used his shovel to move copperheads.

Your garden is looking beautiful. It's really coming along. I was outside doing a little gardening early this morning. We got a real good rain 3 days ago. Watering the garden doesn't compare to a good rain. I love just sitting out by the garden even though my allergies are bad. Here in Texas it'll be hot when the sun rises pretty soon. Sometimes it's 100°F at midnight, not yet. Usually happens a little later in the summer. It's usually in the 90's everyday right now. It's work trying to keep the garden from burning up. I just love it when everything is so green! You live in such pretty country. Living in the country is such a blessing.

I grew blackberries for years. I tried cattle panel trellis, but found that pruning was very difficult. What works MUCH better is a twin trellis. Two rows about a foot apart with three to five horizontal wires each. Grow the flowering blackberries up between the wires and to the front. Then grow the new vines to the back. After the producing vines finish, they can be easily cut to the ground and then the new growth vines moved forward into place. So easy!

Those berries sister can really overtake an area. They can be trained and managed though. Grandpa had some good soil that took him years to create with table scraps and mulch in a region that others couldn't but once is soil was established. Humus and loamy. Everything he grew was hardy and bountiful. He never quit til the day he went to be with Jesus. Luv yur garden methods and thoughts.

This is my first season to use grow bags too. What I'm hearing from people who've used them much longer is that they last 2 to 3 yr's outdoors.. I'm sure that emptying and storing them at the end of the growing season would make them last longer, since sunlight breaks them down.

I really enjoyed this video, Tipper. I'm like you - I want to plant everything!! And I don't live out in the country, so I have a lot of grow bags because I couldn't find anyone to till up a small garden area for me. But, I want to grow everything I see!! To me working in the dirt is almost a sacred experience. It feeds my soul. I have a tater grow back so I'm anxious to see how it does. And my favorite tomato is the Cherokee Purple as well, so I'm praying they do good. I always plant some little bite size tomatoes to pop in to my mouth when I'm out there working. I planted a brown turkey fig tree and I'm praying it will prosper. My mama always made fig preserves and they're expensive to buy, not to mention homemade tastes so much better. I also started a rose garden and I pray they do well. I saw your valerian and I have to get some seeds, because it's so pretty. I have a small herb garden too and am always looking for new things to add. I envy your home and garden. That's the type of thing I wanted to do but picked the wrong man because he wasn't interested. Keep me (or I should say us) informed as to the progress of your endeavors. I've never heard of rattlesnake beans, so please show some when they're ready. I get so much enjoyment from you and your family, so keep the videos coming. I'm only about 1 1/2 hours from you in the foothills of Oconee County, SC. I know you can't remember all of us. I have been writing down the words and sayings I grew up hearing because I want to preserve our heritage. I got a dictionary of Appalachian English like you have. You've not yet used a word or phrase I wasn't familiar with, but my area is growing so fast and the majority of newcomers is d*** Yankeees who think we're ignorant. Grrrrrrr. 😂Take care and I'll see you next time. 😊💕🦋💐

Clover and Katie ---- hmmm, birds of a feather flock together if you know what I mean 😄😉😙 I grew Matt's Wild Cherry one year and it took over the whole cattle panel! We love Nasturtium leaves in salads. Okra blooms are so pretty. We ordered grow bags for the first time this year, got them from Bootstrap Farmer. Tipper, your garden looks GREAT, thanks for the tour, loved this video and love you Tipper - thanks for what you do.

Your garden looks great! You have more garden space than you think.I had a lot of volunteer squash, tomatoes and pepper plants come up in mine.I had to transplant most of them to the areas I wanted them to grow because they came up in random places. There were a few that came up in the beet patch so I just left them. I told my hubby that next year instead of working so hard to plan and lay out sections to plant in, I’m going to just have him plow, fertilizer and then see what comes up. I felt bad pulling up so many tomato plants that have just come up on their own.

I too have planted herbs, chives, parsley, basil, dill. I have beautiful tomatoes and peppers. I have a really big planter with rosemary that's 3yrs old. I have arthritis so I am limited to growing in pots. I planted shishito peppers and they're doing great. Also cowhorn pepper, so good

Tipper, I have to tell ya that this year I have started a garden in those large red feed tubs and I'm so proud of what is growing this far. Last year was a bust, wasn't able to get out there and grow anything, heck I couldn't even get anyone to come mow my yard so I could get to the containers to start anything. And I couldn't get my push weedeater to start so I spent the summer indoors and miserable, trying to not think about the mess in my yard and the fact I didn't have anything growing. But this year, I have green and purple grapes, apricot and peach trees, dill, basil, mint, several different types of tomatoes, onions, green onions, zucchini and squash, cantelope, watermelon, three different colors of sweet bell peppers, banana peppers, okra, and I'm probably forgetting something else but I have a bunch of stuff planted and I still have about 6 or so tubs that I plan on getting soil into to plant more. I slipped a disk in my back this past weekend and was on a walker and wasn't able to water them as I had planned on Sunday, and a Neighbor Lady stopped by to help me do a few things and I asked her to water the plants as I stood on my porch watching and she was amazed at what I had planted. Bless her heart she was almost as excited as I am about all of it. She even said OH MY, look at your little baby bell peppers! And I said just wait, I should have 3 different colors of them. And I watched her as she smiled and gently watered the dill, being careful not to damage them since they're still very small and fragile. It makes our heart smile when we grow something that we know we will harvest and enjoy later, and also makes our hearts smile when we see someone admire or appreciate the work you've put into it and see their excitement when they see baby produce growing. I remember when I was a Kid, my Mom had a huge garden and so did my next door neighbor Man. We had to help pull okra or beans or____ and I never appreciated it like I do as an adult. The satisfaction of knowing you grew that and you know what's gone into it and what hasn't been sprayed on it is a feeling you can't get anywhere else. I like to say it's 'soul satisfaction'. Take care sweet Lady, and I admire what you've done with your gardens. P.S. If you'd like some Iris bulbs let me know. I'll be digging some up to put in a fence and would love to send you some if you have use for them. I have all colors so there's no idea of what color they'll be, just let me know.

Delete the tomatoes sound like something that I probably wouldn't want to eat on a regular basis but while you're hot and working in the garden they sound like would be a wonderful thing to snack on to be one of those sweet sour watery snacks sounds good. I've never seen or heard of them before last year when you talked to about them and haven't had a chance to try to grow but it sounds like a fun thing to just have like in the garden when you're out there working big time and have for a snack or having the a bowl in the refrigerator to just reach in and get a snack while you're canning or something.

Thank you for sharing your garden with us! I also have a soft heart towards volunteers of any kind in my garden. My dill refuses to grow where I want it to be every year. It pops up all over the place. This year it wants to grow with my beets and kohlrabi. I'll let it be. Maybe it knows something I dont. I think I need to do something like your strawberry towers. I like growing as much as I can vertically. Every year I try to grow a new to me bean or squash that will climb my cattle panel arches. Here in NW Ohio I have a terrible time with the squash vine borer destroying my squash before I can get a decent harvest. Last year I grew Trumucante squash with great success! They vine like the dickens, and those bad bugs had no effect. I used the young squash like zuchini. The few I left on the vines to mature to seed had dense orange flesh that I prepared like butternut squash. I will grow them from now on. This year, I am trying an old heirloom called candy roaster. As well as a few heirloom climbing beans. I have been saving heirloom tomato seeds for a few years now. I cant seem to grow enough varieties to satisfy myself. I could chat here all day, but I need to go out to water and fight the weeds. I hope y'all have a good Memorial Day.

I couldn't look through all the comments, to see if someone already said this... it's possible that the reason why your big ol' apple tree has no fruit this year is because it doesn't have the right kind of cross-pollinator. Apples need friends to pollinate with. If your remaining tree doesn't have other trees that bloom at the right time, it won't set any fruit. I love your garden tours, I always get so many good ideas.

In the country where you have a lot of farmers raising cattle, they buy minerals in large containers that are great to use for your garden. Just drill holes in the bottom for drainage. Best of all you can probably get them for free from a friend who had cows.
