Although I am always persecuted and cursed unreasonably mainly in Japan, it is only ME who are always Supported, Encouraged and Applaused through Music Performances by people All Over the World!! (Sho is also Highly Evaluated in the World, Since we became Close friends. Althouigh he may be mad, this is True! I Have Made him World-Famous, you know?!) Anyhow, No Other Japanese, Regardless of Sex! It is only ME, Miki Takagi On Earth! This is definitely My Big Pride!! Thanks so much! I'm sure I will send interesting one to you later. Not a single person of color performing a song from Kool & the Gang, a Black R&B/funk band. Surely there are musician people of color in HM Royal Marines who could have been onstage for this historical performance!

There's always one killjoy who has to go out of his/her way to turn a positive into a negative, isn't there? What you're suggesting would result in someone being given the gig based on the coloUr (note correct spelling) of his/her skin. Put down your copy of the Guardian and see this for the bit of fun it's supposed to be, for Christ's sake.

@@geoffwright3692 It's ironic but understandable that those who point out our shortcomings are almost always labeled as killjoys. The real killjoy is for countless people of color to continuously be reminded of the color-blindness of far too much that society still presents. That tired old argument, that to keep color (American spelling) in mind as part of a balanced approach of how to create a presentation means that one favors (American spelling) color over other equally-valid components, is silly and immature, similar to the arguments made recently by the American far right against the choice of a Black woman for the U.S. Supreme Court. The answer to THAT silly argument was simple: Gee, was it just random chance that no Black woman had been nominated in the 200+ years up to that point? Of course not. It was deliberate choice not to nominate a Black woman up to that point, and so it had to be a conscious, deliberate choice TO nominate one. As I wrote before, I'm sure that there are plenty of musician people of color in HM Royal Marines along with plenty of white ones who could have been selected for this concert. Was it just random chance that not a single one was selected? I doubt that quite seriously.

@@philcenters6690 Phil, they're people who serve their country, and who are appointed on the basis of their ability as opposed to the colour of their skin. The disrespect you've shown them is mind-boggling. After all the troubles, all the tensions, the heartbreak of the last couple of years, you'd think that any opportunity for people, in the words of the song, to come together would be welcomed. (As has been the case in the UK in the last week where community events have been going on up and down the country with everybody who wants to be there welcomed). But no. You can't or won't see an example of wholesome, positive entertainment where performers and audience alike are having a great time for what it is without putting your oar in and trying to spoil it for the sake of your own righteous indignation. You go off and mutter away to yourself how offensive it is if you want, and leave the rest of us to enjoy their covers of the likes of Neil Diamond, Dire Straits, Simon & Garfunkel, Pink Floyd and the Prodigy.

Are you seriously suggesting (rhetorical question - I can see that you are) that those appointed to HM Royal Marines Band on the basis of their ability just all happened to be white people? That not a single person of color had enough ability to make the cut? That assertion seems quite disrespectful to all the HM Royal Marines musicians who are people of color. And statistically that assertion is HIGHLY unlikely, though it is possible. I'm wondering how you can make this assertion with such utter confidence in the correctness of your stance. We can resolve this question factually rather than speculatively. Let's find out how those 64 or so musicians standing on that stage were selected. Was it by audition or by simple appointment by the commanding officer? If by audition, who were the judges who determined who was the better pick if two musicians, one white and one of color, were equally talented and qualified? What criteria were used as a tie-breaker? Flip of a coin?

@@philcenters6690 It's by audition. Look around here (I'm not going to do it for you, you can forget that) and you'll see the video that gives an insight into the recruitment and training process. To suggest that it's by simple appointment of the CO is a sign of a mind that's got too much time on its hands, and yet again disrespectful of people trying to do some good. What went wrong, Phil? What happened in your life that you're so aggrieved by the sight of other people having a good time? Out in this world there are people starving, struggling to ends meet, fearful for their jobs, having their homes bombed, and what you decide to get hot and bothered about is a military band the ethnic makeup of which you don't like. Phil, do me and yourself a favour, go outside, take a long walk in the fresh air and have a rethink of your perspective in life. If you can't or won't do that, then again, do your own research details, find the contact details for the Royal Marines Band, and write them your strongly worded letter of complaint. See how far that gets you.
