The reason why malayalam cinema is the best is because, in malayalam good films are considered good and bad films are recognised as bad. I also love to watch malayalam films mostly .......have seen a lot of masterpieces of this industry, but still you have to agree, there's no comparison of best Bengali movies in Indian cinema.....the maximum no. Of national and international award winning Indian movies are made in Bengali.....the unbroken record still belongs to Bengal......

For this, none other than the audience is answerable .......due to their poor quality of choices many newcomer Bengali directors lost their courage to make exceptional or tradition breaking cinema......but on the other hand Malayalam films were encouraged by the response of their audience in spite of having entirely new points of view in them.......But the choices of Bengali audience is also being changed day by day, especially the young people now like to watch a reliable and realistic story......and one after one exceptional movies are also being made nowadays, you can watch the movies of Kaushik Ganguly or Srijit Mukherjee, you can easily understand what changes are taking place

I am a keralite born in Uttar Pradesh and used to love watching Hindi movies and hollywood movies during my childhood especially I was a big fan of amitabh, amol parekar, nazeeruddin shah, Om puri, amrish puri, nana patekar etc and that time I used to watch very less malayalam movies probably because my malayalam was not that strong or I was very young to understand the concept they used, however once I grew up and reached college days, I started venturing more into Korean, spanish, Iranian movies and then started watching few malayalam movies, I was shell shocked that how come I never tasted the holy water which was in front of me all the time, I mean they are way beyond of what we see in any other languages, the story is given so much importance that main lead may not play any role in showing any sort of extraordinary heroism like how we see in other languages, the reason I believe the audience are very intelligent and they are ready to accept anything new which we dont see in other movies, watch few movies like Dasharatham, Vanaprastham, manichithrathazhu, vadaku nokki yanthram, thoovanathumbikal and so many to name. All these movies were realeased in 90's or late 80's but even now when you see them you feel they were released in wrong timeline.
