My aunt went on Ozempic ~ 10 years ago. She struggled with obesity, after having her kids. She has rheumatoid arthritis so being a heavier person isn't idle. She said that her rheumatologist put her on a new injection: Ozempic. She probably dropped 80 lbs in a matter on months. She went from looking obese to teeny tiny and petite. She doesn't take it anymore but she has carried through the same, healthy eating and exercising routine whilst on Ozempic. She has gained maybe 10 pounds back but that's expected, I think. I've been an over-eater my entire life, because I just don't feel satisfied, even when I'm FULL, and it's HARD to control it sometimes. I became overweight starting at around age 8, and extremely overweight/obese between the ages of about 10 and almost 13. That's already an awkward time in someone's life, and getting bullied for being overweight did me no favors. I was pretty severely bulimic all through highschool, and would binge and purge several times a day.... I didn't even realize how thin I had actually gotten until my grandmother insisted that I must be sick or something, since I was skinnier everytime she saw me those years. The purging gradually faded out (for the most part) in my late teens/early 20s, and hasn't been a problem since I was around 22 or 23 (I'm 31 now), but I still binge to this day sometimes. Im a lot more confident in my body now in general, but have also been taking medication to treat my ADHD since high school, which I recognize has helped manage my weight these past 15ish years, so I completely understand why people take these medications for weight.
@geocyo8835 Жыл бұрын
Though I am one for self-accountability, I genuinely don't think it's your fault that you don't feel full and overeat. I think that over the last fifty or so years, the food industry in the U.S. has allowed anti-satiety ingredients to go into the food so that there is more consumption. Please continue to do your best to stay healthy and to rid yourself of dangerous excess body fat. You can win!
@J_Mock92 Жыл бұрын
I also wanted to add that even though I'm more confident in general now, I do still feel a little self-conscious anytime I have my shirt off (even at my "best" weight), and that I always feel kinda "down" whenever I gain even 5 or 10 pounds. Weight struggles and body image issues really can stick with you, regardless of what you look like now, or how long it's been since being overweight 🤷
@J_Mock92 Жыл бұрын
@@geocyo8835 well that too. Most processed foods are full of fillers, lack micronutrients and leave one feeling unsatisfied, but the sad reality is that those foods are all a lot of people can afford. I'm fortunate enough to have maintained a healthy weight for the past 10 years (my actual weight isn't an issue anymore), but that's not the case for everyone, and the "trauma" from being overweight in adolescence doesn't really go away

I will say often several things have impacted my ability to feel full. First eat slowly to give more time for your body to signal fullness. Also, lacking whole grains, vegetables with fiber and protein can lead to your stomach emptying faster and eating not being as satisfying. Tips: Add things to baked goods like pureed pumpkin for fiber and almond flour for protein. Also, chickpea pasta has about 20 grams of protein. Add cubed squash and some shredded meat to the pasta and it would be very healthy and filling. This is quite tasty particularly if you add a cheesy sauce and is a bit like mac and cheese. Also, this is not expensive because it is essentially just pasta, chicken and squash. Barilla is the brand I like for the pasta and they sell them in batches of boxes on amazon. Also, I have not tried it but I think that whey protein powder added to coffee could help reduce between meal cravings in a healthy way. I wanted to explain that sometimes it genuinely just is our bodies telling us what we need. It can absolutely be metabolism and hormones screwing things up, but it isn’t always. Not sure if that applies here of course, but too often I have seen people believe there is something wrong with them when there isn’t anything at all.

My dad is borderline diabetic (he has metabolic syndrome) and a former obese. He had to lose weight rapidly after a heart attack 3 years ago, so he was put on diabetes medications for life (among many other things), and when he first lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time, he looked very weak and deflated, because he was suddenly underweight. Fortunately, he is better now, since they adjusted his dosage, but these are serious medications, and they should be monitored by actual specialists. Using diabetes medications to lose weight rapidly without a medical condition that requires them will screw your metabolism worse and it may cause damage to your pancreas, without which you cannot survive. I’ve lost about 45 lbs so I’m back to my body’s happy weight, but I hate how I look. I didn’t expect to lose weight that fast, so I have loose and crepey skin all over. I know toning up with weights will help, but that’s the other issue. I often feel nauseous to the point of throwing up about once a week. It was a little more often at the beginning. Part of it was because I was eating more than my stomach had room for, so in that way it’s similar to gastric bypass surgery. I also tend to eat too fast, but have learned when to stop because about 20-30 minutes later I feel stuffed. I also feel very fatigued. Low blood pressure comes on quickly too. I just read a tiny bit about this drug, and I'd say celebrities taking it will likely lead to regular people taking it for weight loss, and there are already shortages, which means that people who arent diabetic can't get a critical medication. So I guess if they admit to taking it they'd look a little selfish. Although if they actually were quite obese before taking it, they might become diabetic without it. Also it has some pretty scary potential side-effects (like organ failure), so I guess doctors would only want people to take it whose health is at greater risk from the obesity than the drug.

I also feel like the amount of effort I put in should result in a smaller weight, or rather fat loss, that suites my frame. A couple years ago I became static and stopped doing everything and gained 30lbs. I am a year and half in and Ive maybe lost 10lbs. Whereas it took me 4 months to gain the damned 30lbs. I see other friends who work less or just as hard at managing their weight and they maintain a slim/toned physique. I personally would not want these medications as I am no where near diabetic, but it would be nice if the medical community had more answers about why it is so hard for some people to maintain a healthy weight and what they can do. Too often, like Lorry said, we are told to eat less and move more. But if you are already doing that the doctors have no answers. Blood tests dont tell us much either in this regard, or at least it didnt for me. And no I dont have a secret frappuccino or potato chip addiction lol. I cook all my meals from scratch and make sure not to use too much salt or sugar. I also try to ensure I dont consume more sugar than the daily recommend amount by the WHO. We know soooo very little about metabolism and weight😩 edit: I dont think anyone has to disclose their use of medications. We have information protection laws for a reason. It is no one's business what medications celebrities use. Just because they are in the spot it doesnt entitle anyone to know their medical situation. I dont think they have to disclose even the work they've done (unless of course they are trying to sell some anti-aging cream but got a facelift). I think it is safe to assume that most celebrities and influencers have gotten something done and we shouldnt compare ourselves to them, or frankly anyone! Dont give someone else's appearance the power to make you feel bad about your own. I try to remind myself of this whenever I am triggered. We need to see ourselves as whole beings and not in bits and pieces.

I hear you - I am small boned and 5’4”, not super short but short enough. It took me 18 months to lose 14 pounds. but I’m going for really slow and sustainable as I have joint issues and tendon instability and get injured easily. I have 5 more pounds to go, it will probably take me another 6 months (unless I start doubling my workouts which is unlikely). Have you checked out the petite power KZbin channel? It has helped me so much! April from petite power suggests shorties take measurements as sometimes we won’t even lose pounds as we gain fat and add muscle 1 for 1 if that makes sense. I followed that and lost 13 inches over my whole body over a year, even though it wasn’t my ideal weight knowing that I was still making progress helped me stay on track

I know what you mean! Something similar happened to me this year. After I took a medication (minocycline) for 6 months I gained weight rapidly (6kg or so) and once I cut off that pill I lost a couple of pounds but it’s been more difficult than before. I don’t know if is cause im in my early 30s now but two years ago I lost weight much more quickly doing the same things I do know :/

Hi, you could try intermittent fasting. It really works. Counting calories is useless .And Training 5 times a week is excessive. The body is stressed and this is exactly why it hangs on to the weight, the cortisol stops the fat burning. Every other day is more than enough. Sometimes less is more. Good luck and Greetings from Germany ❤😊

I’m using Ozempic for 6 months and dropped 30 pounds without changing my diet. It was actually really easy. I just stopped eating when I felt full. Before I always finished eating up because I never really felt full. There was some nausea in the first month which was uncomfortable and yes my digestion is not as even as before but other than that I’m really glad I risked it. I’m only on a dose of 0.5mg/week and don’t feel I have to up so thinking of dropping it next spring. The only downside is it makes me more nauseous when I work out so I don’t recommend it for anyone trying to define his muscles because I wasn’t able to lift weight as I used to.

Thank you Lorry! So appreciate you lifting the veil of secrecy on beauty yet again! Thank you for an important question- I believe no woman has an obligation to reveal her personal business, that includes Khloe Kardashian, Oprah, Mindy Kahling, my next door neighbor, your mom, my mom, me, you., etc. Right to Privacy is a human right and American right (at least on paper). Now, having said that, I love this channel because women gain power when we refuse to be ashamed of taking steps to improve our appearance with products, professionals. cosmetic surgeons, etc. Whenever a woman says, "yes Ive had cosmetic surgery and Im damn proud of it" , whether she's Cardi B, Lorry Hill, me, this shows other women within earshot that we dont have to take on any of the shame that our culture desperately wants us to push down on us. Only a sick culture wants to 1-shame women and girls daily for not looking beautiful enough and then 2- when we finally give in to this pressure and get something done, it wants to shame us again? F that. Thank you Lorry for everything you do ! ❤💜💕

Lory, you get so so close to saying what I believe - that some people are bigger than others naturally- what doesn’t get said is that that is not in and of itself a problem! People can be 100% healthy and fall into medically overweight categories. Those categories are made up! People can be fat with no more medical problems than thin people, and are not necessarily fat because they are over eating. Just as thin people can be thin and have medical issues, or have unhealthy lifestyles. The podcast maintenance phase just did an episode on ozembic that I recommend as additional reading to anyone trying to understand what these drugs mean without glorifying thinness. Thanks for your ever thoughtful work, Lory.

She had her side effects as nausea and little appetite, but she is not pre-diabetic now, she is very happy. Khloe’s toned body is from a strict diet and training program. Sure, she has help, but not from ozempic. Ozempic does the opposite; many lose muscle mass due to quick “weight” loss and end up gaining the weight back because BMR is now lowered. Muscle gains are a result of carefully increasing cals and heavier weight training… there’s no other way.
@Hiiiiiiiiieeee Жыл бұрын
I do think anybody who wants to position themselves as an influencer should be candid with their audience. If they’re not admitting to using things like medication and surgeries, it gives young people that don’t know the difference between reality and social media a false sense of what they could actually achieve. And I know the average person is getting way more savvy and understands things like that but there will always be some people who don’t innately get that and feel they have to live up to an unrealistic standard that even their idol isn’t living up to in reality.

I was overweight (not obese) and working out 6 days a week and eating healthy and it was so hard because I was hungry ALL of the time... except for when I exercised. The solution? I work out cardio/endurance/agility twice a day; one hour when I wake up, and one hour when I'm done with work for the day. I've lost 35 lbs in 5 months and I'm now a size 6 and 128 lbs. Dear Lorry, I watch your channel from time to time, and I appreciate your content. I would like to say a few things in relation to weight loss, that you have not taken into account, which plays a huge role In our vitality and physic.I talking about an untreated, unresolved trauma. unhealed childhood trauma leads to dysmorphia, due to limited access to positive self perception. In other words, if you have untreated trauma of emotional, physical, sexual nature, it will lead to coping mechanisms. One of them is compulsive eating, not taking care of yourself, consuming ultra processed foods that lead to inflammation, toxicity, and a whole array of complicated health related issues. One of the first things one should look into is their past. These suppressed memories hold the key to our ability to make good decisions, including those related to food.

Interesting. I live in Eastern Europe, and in early 2022 a dermatologist friend arranged a meeting with a diabetes doctor she knew, saying she might be able to prescribe these "miracle pills" that can make you lose weight like magic, and that she's had patients who take them and lost tons of weight. I went in there and this diabetes doctor basically said it's illegal for her to prescribe them to patients who are not officialy diagnosed with diabetes. I was disappointed at first, but then she went on to say that I shouldn't be, that these pills make you feel sick and destroy your kidneys, and her patients had suffered some very nasty side-effects. When the Ozempic craze started spreading on youtube, I realized that these are the pills she was talking about. I find it very surprising that in the US they can be taken without prescriptions, and almos no video I saw talk about the very bad potential side-effects of these pills.

There could be lots of legitimate reasons for someone to lose a lot of weight that have struggled their whole life. I've seen new moms who end up skinnier, because their lifestyle changes. Gastric bypasses or sleeves are also still a thing for people that are slightly overweight and look normal. I just feel like these signs are so vague and basically apply to any rapid weight loss. We just don't know...
