I used to live in NYC and always let celebrities have their space if I saw one. BUT one time I saw Uma Thurman across the street and my brain broke and I just screamed ‘OH MY GOD UMA I LOVE YOU!’ She burst out laughing, gave a little wave, and shouted ‘LOVE YOU TOO!’ Icon behavior. And I will never stop loving her. 😂

I have ADHD and used to have social anxiety. That combination is straight from hell. Because i say blunt and impulsive things sometimes or word things differently than most people and accidentally offend people i wanted to be friends with. That’s actually the reason i developed social anxiety, I lost all of my friends over the years and i thought i was a horrible person. Going to therapy and accepting on who i am has helped a lot. I now have a lot of friends with ADHD and not having to worry about what i say because they UNDERSTAND me is amazing, i can’t believe other people had this all their life

in terms of social anxiety, i've been told multiple times that i've come across as rude or cold because my anxiety makes me distant and i actively try to get away from the situation that's causing me to panic. because of my anxiety, i suck at holding conversations and meeting new people, so since i'm not really engaging in conversation, people think i'm rude or stuck-up.
@genyaagathon4647
@genyaagathon4647 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have social anxiety too and I think being "rude" or appearing rude at least depends a lot on how much you're able to read the room and how much you're panicking and how you're reacting to panic. Most of the time I will be the nicest person, like annoyingly nice. But if it's really to much and I have a panic attack I'll be the rudest I guess, like literally running out, no eye contact and not a word, also in that situation, I tend to forget I have shoulders and bump into everything and everyone.

I had a really great meeting with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. I was a wee little kid, and Sky High had just come out and quickly became my favorite movie at the time. I was in Santa Monica visiting relatives, and I ran into Kurt and Goldie at a Home Depot of all places. My little kid brain didn't process that Kurt wasn't actually the Commander in real life, and that Goldie wasn't Jetstream (not even the right actress), but they were super sweet and both went into character during the entire interaction. They also helped me find my family because I wandered off to go say hi to them, and STILL STAYED IN CHARACTER during that interaction too. It's one of my most cherished early childhood memories. Also, Goldie gives some of the best hugs, and Kurt has a super contagious smile. Love those two.

Lisa Kudrow went to school at Vassar College and did an internship at the not-for-profit I worked for. She and would work most of the day alone in the small office that was mine. In the afternoon, many staff and volunteers would come through the office. She was painfully shy and would turn to her typewriter and not make eye contact with anyone. The young guys were always around trying to meet the pretty girl and she would turn bright red if they spoke to her. I was so surprised when she became an actress. Not surprised that she has issues with fans remembering her shyness.

The person didn't expand on what made her feel that she was so rude, but it's totally possible that it was because she's shy. Shy people (like me) can come off as cold and aren't great at engaging in conversation

I met Goldie Hawn in a budget guesthouse in Varanasi India in the early 2000s. She was traveling with her son Oliver and some friends. My buddy and I went up onto the roof to watch the sunset and there sat Goldie and a few friends. I thought I was having a stroke. The guesthouse wasn’t a dump by any means. But it was definitely a backpacker hotel, no bathrooms in the rooms, that sort of place, clean but zero luxuries. Once I realized I wasn’t having my first psychotic episode and Goldie was actually sitting on the roof of my hotel, I waved and said hello. The legendary Miss Goldie Hawn asked us our names, about our travels, our schooling. She suggested some places to visit, shared some funny stories. She was fully engaged with us for 10-15 minutes and so kind. After that time she casually and gradually started shifting her attention back toward her companions. It was the most polite signal ever. We thanked her for the chat, wished each other safe travels and went on our way To this day, that brief encounter on an Indian rooftop, sun setting behind the great Ganges River, chatting away with Goldie Hawn, is one of my favorite memories. There is a 0.0001% chance she even remembers it happened. But her willingness to be kind and her generosity of spirit gave me a memory to cherish for a lifetime. Thanks Goldie! 💙 P.S. The next day I accidentally ingested heroin and very nearly died. That was also memorable but much less pleasant. Be careful in Varanasi folks!

A lot of "celebrities were rude to me stories", Happen after you ask someone for a photo, while they are busy or trying to not be noticed. I just don't think I would have the guts to ask a celebrity for a photo in the first place. Like if I finally got up the guts to say Hi to them, I would feel so bad for interrupting their day that I would never ask for a photo even if I really wanted one

I used to live in a small town where celebrities often vacationed. There was an unspoken rule that us normal people were to treat the celebrities like anyone else. Don’t pressure them to take a picture. Don’t make a fuss over them. Just treat them like anyone else. I can see why this is appealing to them. I’d hate to be “on” 24/7.

here's my take: don't disturb celebrities on their personal time. Just don't. You think it's no big deal, but likely since they got out of the house and until they reached the cafe you work at, they were stopped like 10 more times. I disagree that as fans, we are entitled to pictures, hugs, autographs etc. Not when you meet them in the wild. Smile if you want to show them you recognize and appreciate them, but leave them alone. Now, if you meet them at an event, that's a completely different situation.

I was thinking the same thing through that story. Whether the person really met with the real celebrities or not, his phrasing of the story made me feel uncomfortable, like he's the type of fan to pester a celebrity rather than respect their boundaries. When I was in college, I went grocery shopping and got into line behind a minor celebrity. He paid and left, when it was my turn, the cashier asked if I knew who he was, he looked familiar. I said yes, gave his name, and she proceeded to get ballistic on me for not calling him out so others could go up and meet him. I said, he was just grocery shopping, he should be allowed to have time to himself. The cashier continued to berate me and even told me off to other cashiers, saying things like, "Can you believe this guy?" So, the actor wasn't the problem, it was the people around me who were.

From my personal experience, social anxiety definitely makes me retreat from interactions. I remember having a panic attack in a supermarket a while ago as it was super busy and overwhelming. Tons of people, annoying ads over the radio, a crying child behind me in line. I could not cope and just tried to get away from it all and definitely just ignored the cashier and everyone around me in that moment (usually I'm really nice). So I think it can show up differently for different people and I can totally see why celebs don't always feel like interacting with fans. Just let them be.

Same! I had won a small kindle tablet (only for reading ebooks) from a silent auction with the help of my grandmother and she kind of used an underhanded tactic to make sure "I" won. So it came time to announce the winner and it was MY name, and this middle aged woman came over to me, furious. She started yelling that we cheated while I was shocked and not even sure what was going on while my grandma tried to defend me. I just stiffly said I don't want it anymore and had to go sit in the corner to sob by myself for an HOUR. I was so anxious and put in that spot without even really knowing what was happening and I judt froze up, unable to do anything but walk away quickly.

I think it's fair to acknowledge that anxiety affects a lot of people in different ways, personally, I have severe social anxiety and while it doesn't make me rude, it does not make me nice either. The only thing I can focus on the whole time is just how much of a nervous wreck I feel, and how I think everyone can see right through me. I think it makes me very awkward to interact with in the very least

I can see being awkward and nervous and maybe a bit cold even becauee of the nerves, but I would break down in a panic attack before I could yell or berate anyone and never leave the house again after, the thought of causing confrontation would make me pass out 😂 so I may be awkward generally I'm over nice to ruffle feathers, but to yell and be nasty to someone I'd find it physically impossible due to the confrontation and not knowing the reaction

I have social anxiety and I'm pretty sure I come off as a little rude sometimes. I especially find it hard to walk up and introduce myself to new people so I will just avoid doing it, which could come across as me being uninterested in them. In most social situations I find myself in these days I just throw myself into the conversation without introductions. Today I spent 3 hours talking to two girls I knew existed (and knew their names) but never really talked to before and ever introduced myself to.

As someone with lifelong social anxiety, it can go either way. Either I’m people pleasing and overly nice or I’m in panic mode - shut down, can’t make eye contact and rude. The latter tends to happen with pushy sales people or when I think someone wants something from me. So yeah, I can see it being an issue with a celeb that has social anxiety. When you’re in that panic mode, you don’t see or reason logically - it’s pretty miserable, especially when you typically try to be kind to others but in that moment you lash out in order to escape and then feel horrible guilt about it later. It all comes down to how you handle the stress or threat - fight, flight, freeze or fawn. As a socially anxious person, I can’t think many careers worse than being a celebrity of some sort. Shudder

Social anxiety doesn't make you rude, but it comes off that way. I have mental illnesses that cross over with social anxiety and I've had people tell me that until they actually got to know me they thought I was rude and stuck up. They all changed their minds after sitting down and talking to me. People with real mental illnesses (like diagnosed social anxiety) cannot handle social situations the same way other people do. It's never okay to be rude, but sometimes you have to consider that there is a reason behind that behavior that you can't see or understand.

"Never meet your heroes" is a truism. I have found it to be absolutely true during my somewhat long life. Also, I worked with the mother of a somewhat famous actress (she starred in a childhood movie with McCauley Culkin). Said actress's agent was at a party where Warren Beatty was present, and he came up to start hitting on female agent. She said, "No thanks." Warren: "But ... but ... I'm WARREN BEATTY!" Agent: "I don't care who you are!" and walked past him. So it sounds like he was turned down more than once. Also, he wasn't young at this point, and apparently the effects of his facelifts are quite evident.

Yes, time and surgeons have not been kind to that face! He should take a hint and just accept that he's old now, but had a very good run in his youth. He really was handsome, and a very good actor, but always had a reputation for being a Lothario. Probably why he was snubbed so many times by the Academy, and never won best actor even though he was nominated, a lot! If you want to see him in his prime (a year before his 1st movie role), there was a show in 1959-early 1960s called "One Step Beyond" that was kind of like "Twilight Zone" except the stories were supposed to be "true". The episodes are on KZbin for free. I was blown away by an episode called "The Visitor" because of the quality of the actors. Only two actors, and they were a young Warren Beatty and the legendary Joan Fontaine! It's worth watching. I never knew about this show until a few years ago and was surprised by how good it was.

I have to say that I had severe anxiety when I was younger and especially in high school. I was never rude, but I was too terrified to talk to anyone so people got the impression that I was stuck up. I was tall and thin and not the worst, looking in the world, but no beauty. In truth, I felt like I was absolute garbage and being stuck up was the absolute opposite of what I was feeling. When I would get to know somebody a little one on one, they would say something like, “I can’t believe you’re so nice I thought you were so stuck up! “ and as for these celebrities… If they are looking up and down and rolling their eyes, they are not being socially awkward. They are being rude.

Had the same experience out of high-school. I didn't feel rubbish about myself, but I just was very trapped in my own bubble and had developed a habit of keeping people at arms length. Ppl would always say : I can't believe ure nice, I thought u were stuck up, just because u was an introvert and I found talking to strangers extremely uncomfortable (still do). Life after high-school taught me to develop some people skills, which helped. But I'm told I still have a pretty impressive resting bitch face - which is not at all intentional. I'm a softy and I think it's an instinctive form of protection. 😅

Sameeee! I've gotten "stuck up", "judgemental", and "posh" (which was the nicer way to say stuck up lol) because of my RBF. I just generally don't make a good impression on people at first, so I had to start giving disclaimers like "I swear I'm not making a face and being quiet because I'm judging you, I'm just seriously listening and processing what you're saying and have RBF" lol

I legit have social anxiety, and just wrote a Facebook post about this last night. I've have anxiety, in general, for approximately 15ish years. I'm not ashamed to say I see a therapist for this, because working on overcoming an obstacle is never something to be ashamed of! Charlotte, you are spot on; with social anxiety, the LAST thing I do or think about doing is being rude, mean, angry, and behaving negatively towards others. I don't want to draw more attention to myself, and being nasty to other will certainly just draw more attention. I do my best to smile, fit in, and often times I go out of my way to be a "people pleaser" and make others laugh. Then, when I go home, the cycle starts: I over analyze everything I've said & done for the next several days, hoping I didn't accidently hurt anyone's feelings or come off the wrong way to someone. I also need a good 3-5 days to "recharge" before I can go out and do socializing & life again 😂. I'm well aware of my issues, and I'm blat a better place today than I was 10 years ago; I've made a lot of progress actually! One thing that actually helps me is performing in theatre, because I get to play a different person whilst having fun, and I can barely see the audience anyway because the stage lights are so bright. I just recently got cast in my 1st musical theatre last week, so I'm still making baby steps. 🥰

Nah. I’ve have what’s called a panic disorder where my anxiety is out of control at times. It’s not panic attacks though. While I may look calm, cool, and collected, my anxiety is through the absolute roof. I’ve been told many many times by people they thought I was stuck up or acted better than others. Nope. Just awful anxiety. I go to a psychiatrist but psychologists do not help me in the slightest.
@ladyfallon
@ladyfallon Жыл бұрын
@garbeaux9787 Panic disorders and anxiety disorders are two different things. The reason I know this, unfortunately, is because I have both. I have C-PTSD (complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) that causes me to have panic attacks & night terrors, and I also have an anxiety disorder. The wonderful man I married several years ago is also a doctor, so I'm blessed to have him both as an emotional support system, and to help with all the medical stuff I don't always understand. A Psychiatrist prescribes medicine & can do a basic diagnosis, but a Psychologist essentially is the "Big boss" when it comes to mental health because they help the individual work through their thought processes via counseling, talk therapy, behavioural therapy, etc. Not everyone is the same, and not every method works the same for everyone. For me, I was left in an orphanage, sent to another country, adopted but then unadopted, passed around through multiple foster homes that mistreated me in every way imaginable, ran away from one of them at the age of 14 and became a homeless teenager for approximately 6 months before being picked up by the police, then was left in juvenile hall, not because I committed a crime, but because no placement could be found for me. And, since I didn't belong to a gang, I was targeted a lot, so the staff decided to put me in solitary confinement for my own safety, where I stayed for 8 months (detrimental thing for adults to do to a child, by the way). I was eventually sent to punishment-style boarding school in another state, that eventually got shut down due to the bad things the staff were doing to the residents. Much MUCH more has happened to me that I don't necessarily want, need, or have to disclose here, but the reason I'm sharing this with you is simply to point out that treatment options for everyone aren't so cut-and-dry. Simply taking prescriptions prescribed by a Psychiatrist isn't a cure for me. And simply having therapy with a Psychologist isn't enough to overcome all my traumas as well. For me personally, it takes a combination of the both. I'm now over 35 years old, and I'll most likely always need some sort of therapy, which is nothing to be ashamed of. Studies & research have determined that for every year of trauma an individual has suffered, it is expected to take 2 years of intense therapy to overcome said trauma. Due to therapy, I've been able to personally decrease the amount/dosage of medications I've been on throughout the past several decades, which has been wonderful. Medications certainly helped me at the beginning, when I wasn't able or ready for therapy. But once they helped level me out enough to focus on the therapy, the medications became more of a crutch, as opposed to a cure. Whatever you have or are going through, I wish you all the best as well. Just remember, take all the time YOU need, and do whatever works best for you. 💕

Hi Charlotte. Thank you for openly talking about social anxiety. After having several deaths and a near miss for me (19 days in a covid ICU, where they weren't sure I was even going to live) I've now been diagnosed with PTSD along with Social Anxiety and panic attacks. I'm not mean or rude to anyone, I'm just absolutely terrified of people crowding around me, so if I feel like a panic attack is starting I will apologize profusely and walk away from even small crowds, think standing in a line to pick up a prescription, with 2 people ahead of me and now 3-4 people behind me, I'll start apologizing and shaking, I'll then try to find a place where I can try to calm down while also keeping an eye open for me to be able to get in and out without more than 1-2 people in the line. Social anxiety disorder, for me, is awful! I used to be very social with a few friends and quite a few acquaintances. Now I have a couple of friends I'll talk to on the phone, but the acquaintances have just been dropping off since I don't want to go to parties or hang out at river with like 15-20 acquaintances. I have mass respect for you and go to your channel first when I go on KZbin. I know I'll always find a reason to smile or laugh when I watch your clips. Stay true to your convictions. That's why you're so popular and respected.

If you act super nice, Charlotte, always imagine someone acting the exact opposite of you when they’re scared. What I’ve learned about fear (especially in group therapy where you meet all kinds) is that someone else will always act the complete opposite as well. That’s how people end up where we can’t understand. Fear makes you do the crazy.

I don’t know how many of you would know this guy. But I met Sean Berdy once. He’s a deaf actor and played a pretty major role in Switched at Birth, the TV show. I became obsessed with the show and learning sign language. Well, about six years ago, he was giving a talk on his life and what it was like growing up deaf and being a deaf actor. I couldn’t make the one close to my area, so I drove all the way to Michigan (I live in the south) to see him. There would also be a Q&A at the end. I spent weeks learning my question in sign language and practicing it. I was going to ask him to give me a name sign (only a deaf person can give you one). He was SO nice. He had me get up on the stage with him to ask my question, gave me a hug, and was just so incredibly nice and polite. He told me that I looked really sweet, so the name sign he gave me was the sign for the word “sweet.” There was a bit of time after the show where you could take pictures with him. And during that time, he had a bit of conversation with me. He asked me where I was from, how I was doing, all that stuff. And even though probably 45 minutes had passed since I asked him the question and probably 30 people had asked him questions in that time, he remembered my name and referred to me by name throughout the encounter. And the picture I got with him was the Lock Screen on my phone for years. Not a super major celebrity, but he was so incredibly nice. I don’t really have many other celebrity encounters though. Also, I know a guy who ran into Billy Joel’s band on a plane (coming back from the Australia/New Zealand shows last year; Billy Joel wasn’t on the plane). He said that they were all incredibly nice and down to earth. They took pictures with him. They also gave him a free tour book and signed it for him. Edit: Thought I would add my grandma’s celebrity encounter stories. Because she has a lot of them, and all but one of these people is dead now. When she was young (around 10), she got to meet King George VI (Elizabeth II’s dad), Queen Elizabeth (Elizabeth II’s mom), Princess Margaret (Elizabeth II’s sister), and a young Queen Elizabeth II (before she became queen). It was all at the same time. I think it was on their tour thing around their colonies in Africa. She said that they were all very nice and pleasant. She also met Marilyn Monroe. She said that Marilyn was just as beautiful in person and was very nice and charming. She also met JFK (she used to work for the government in DC, back when he was president, and she met him at a work event). She said he was very nice and clean (her way of saying someone is good looking). She also met Billy Joel before he got famous. She used to live in LA in the early 70s, and her and my grandpa would go to a piano bar called The Executive Room. He worked there for six months in 1972 and it’s the bar “Piano Man” is based off of. The woman that would later become his first wife was a waitress there. She said he was very nice and humble and too good of a pianist to be working there. She also said that the waitress (who he later married and then divorced) was a b*tch (her words, not mine). She said she was also shocked that a song about the piano bar her and her husband went to became a massive hit. She also didn’t recognize that it was the pianist until she saw a picture of him because he went by Bill Martin at the bar and not Billy Joel.

I have been around quite a few celebrities in my life. I will say one of the nicest people I ever met was Robin Williams- my uncle worked as a sound engineer for Disney and then later Pixar. He not only was friendly with Robin through working with him on countless movies but also had been friends with him and Jay Leno while they frequented the comedy clubs in CA (he and Jay had gone to college together). My family and I were visiting my uncle while they were filming with him…. We were brought into the lots while my uncle gave us a bit of a tour (which was so amazing… we even were walked down to see some of the vaults!). We went to the commissary to grab lunch before my uncle had to back to work. While I was walking to the table a man comes up behind me and starts making comments about my food as if he were the chef in a super silly voice… I was about 7 at the time and shy…it was Robin. He chatted with me in this “character” for a min while myself and my little brother who was 3 at the time giggled and laughed. He said he needed to “make sure my food was okay” and took a piece of my food and pretended to choke. My brother freaked out being only 3 hahaha- he quickly dropped the act and consoled him while my family laughed hysterically. He sat with us and ate his own lunch before leaving. He even did the Genie voice for my little brother to make him smile…This was Robin. This is who he was. He gave us a core memory I can never express how grateful I am for.

One of the best things I have ever seen in my life was him head banging side stage gutturally “singing” along to Cannibal Corpse. Every word. Each. And. Every. Word. He took time to meet fans and take photos with them post show. I cannot say the same for his gf at the time Jenny McCarthy (there is a reason they most certainly did not end up together) who pouted and looked like she was taking the most painful poop of her life while waiting for him 😂

If he says “No” to a picture that means no. You aren’t entitled to a person’s time if they do not want to give it to you. Celebrities are humans too and they deserve as much privacy as you. *EDIT:* While I get it was a joke, the above applies. 😅

I like John, funny guy and he has a "take no shit" attitude. I would expect and agree with him not tolerating being followed out to the parking lot. So many crazy violent people, especially when they get around celebs. This was obviously a bit, and I think the guy making a video was really making fun of obsessive fans who demand time from celebs who owe them nothing. I live like a hermit and go weeks at a time without speaking to anyone other than my son, so I can't imagine bothering a celeb, because I hate being approached by strangers and I'm NOBODY! I accidentally scared the crap out of someone last week and it made me laugh once I realized it. I live off-grid on a mountain, 3 miles down a rough dirt switchback road into a canyon where I'm literally the last house off that dirt road. However, there are a few others who have RVs or shacks who only come here Spring-Summer to tend their cannabis grows. Each property is 20 acres or more, so we are spread out and I mind my own business. On my way back from getting supplies in town (only leave the house about 3 times a month), I happened to be behind an SUV for the whole 10 miles up the "hill". Then I was still behind him when he turned off the main road onto a narrow paved road, then I also was behind him when he turned onto the dirt road. He looked visibly scared, and he pulled over so I could pass him, which I did. He kept his distance, but he must have really freaked when he saw me turn on my road, where I have the only house! Later we saw him pass by on our road on his way to the grow that is at the end of our dead-end road, well hidden (he thinks). We've known about it for years, since long before the previous owner was arrested and "went away" for 2 years. I guess this is the new property squatter, I mean, "owner". Seems weird that he'd be afraid of me, as I've always been more afraid of people, especially those who have illegal grows. I don't go for hikes anymore because I'm afraid of accidentally finding one and getting murdered!

No one would ever guess that 10 minutes prior he was bent over in his chair, shaking like a leaf, and doing breathing exercises because he has severe social anxiety (often so severe he throws up before an event). After seeing him in action, no one can use that as an excuse to be a jerk to fans or staff ever again in my eyes.

I think it depends on the person, their branding and how they want to be seen. Arnold Schwarzenegger has to have a handler to keep him moving through the crowd and Johnny Depp has been snagged by his security bodily on a number of occasions. Some are cold. To a certain extent, fan service is a job requirement, as you point out, and those are also cases where it is a planned meet and greet. I used to live in NOLA, have visited Martha’s Vineyard (friend had a run in with Billy Joel) and lived in NYC. I have concluded that famous people like these areas for day to day because it is understood that you appreciate them from afar and otherwise let them live their lives. No one loves every aspect of their job and as don’t think we need to judge an entire industry or person when the message is singular.

Yeah, no. You don’t get to be rude to service workers then excuse it with social anxiety. If you actually can’t control yourself from being rude to those serving you, then you need to do more work around that. You also need to go out of your way to apologize afterwards. There’s a massive difference between being short with someone or quiet vs being outwardly rude, screaming, and carrying on. You don’t get to terrorize others then tell yourself it’s okay due to your own struggles. It’s not.

Diagnosed with social anxiety here, even after getting better with therapy, I still overthink every single interaction, think everybody hates me/is annoyed by me, makes me feel like i have to be extremely agreeable. I am currently at a place where they test my work-abilities, social abilities etc, and just yesterday i basically crawled there after almost having a panic attack at home, cause i was too scared to call in and let them know I wasn't mentally able to make it. Cause anxiety makes it generally hard to call in, but I also felt bad for potentially not coming in on the fourth day. What social anxiety can do is make you appear rude when you try to just get your stuff done, walk rushed, possibly bumping into people and getting too scared to stop and apologize and just continue power walking to get out of the situation (from my experience, that is)

I have social anxiety and hide it behind a ‘smoke screen’ of being sociable and nice. Going out to an event means I ‘put on my human suit’. I’m nice, I talk to people, give hugs, shake hands, make jokes. One of the reasons why I prefer driving to and from any situation/event involving lots of social contact is that I can already start shedding that skin on my way back. Once home I change into something as non-restricting as possible and burrow. I really feel I HAVE TO in order to recharge. The more anxiety I feel, the nicer I become. Until I feel the irrepressible need to flee and burrow.

With regard to social anxiety, I can empathize with people assuming you're rude because of certain things. I was diagnosed a long, long time ago and at that point in my life, my social anxiety was debilitating. I 100%, guaranteed would end up having a full blown panic attack, having to leave events early or hiding myself in small, dark places (ender stairs, under desks, etc.) if I was somewhere where I couldn't leave. I was sooooo anxious and shy that for a very long time, people would tell me they thought I was a b1tch/stuck up/that I thought I was too good for everyone before they got to know me. I've been in and out of therapy since I was 8 and have much better coping skills now. I feel like a celebrity may not have the benefit of having to work through anxiety the way I had to because they have a posse or employees to protect them. Just a thought.

This makes total sense. I've been in and out of therapy since I was about 12ish for an array of things like anxiety and depression ,Adhd and childhood trauma to complex Ptsd. My therapist was the one who told me that most normal people don't always have the right coping skills, or haven't been taught the right skills to deal with normal to abnormal things that happen in our lives, especially traumas or mental illness such as anxiety and depression. I think a lot of these celebrities don't have normal or the right coping skills for issues that they might have that are deeper than we know. We all sometimes need to learn better coping skills and to better understand ourselves. I know i had to learn a lot of things when it came to coping and dealing with everyday things.

I also grew up with debilitating social anxiety (turns out I have AvPD), so I empathize with this. Plenty of people assumed I didn’t like them because I kept to myself or was socially awkward. If someone was purposely pestering me, yeah, I’d probably come off as rude. But when people took the time to know me, they’d describe me as very sweet. I can totally see how the behavior of a very anxious celebrity with limited coping skills and no retreat could be misinterpreted as rudeness. Also, anxiety doesn’t necessarily present itself as jitters. Often times, I’d retreat into myself, so I’d appear calm, but in reality I was a bundle of nerves. Disconnecting and bottling up that energy would sometimes result in migraines and vomiting. I’m sure that’s probably the case for some celebrities as well.

First one, we can definitely rule out JLo, because she’s never been accused of being nice to anyone 😂 My dad used to hunt with people who owned rural property that they would lease out for movies to be filmed on. She was rude to everyone, including kids apparently 🙄 My ex used to work in Vegas, and he said Gwen Stefanie was horrible towards absolutely everyone. Most of the famous people I’ve met are in rock bands. One particular singer of ones of my favorite bands has tried to get me into his trailer (I’ve seen them live a few times). I declined (he’s married), but he was a good sport about it. The others are about 50/50 nice/rude 🤷🏼‍♀️

I also have diagnosed social anxiety; I'm one of those people who apologizes for existing, so the idea of being rude to a total stranger on purpose is beyond me! Granted, I've heard that some anxiety-type behaviours (like issues with eye contact) are perceived as rude by neurotypical people even if that wasn't the intention.

Social anxiety is different for everyone. I have bad social anxiety and can be perceived as 'being rude' by someone who isn't familiar with or knows me well. I can seem very cold and disconnected, even standoffish from an outside perspective when in reality I am just struggling with my own internal conflicts like not being understood/judged, saying the wrong thing, sounding offensive unintentionally and the list of emotions and thoughts go on. It is different to a person who is just genuinely rude I would like to think. I think it is easy to misunderstand someone or their actions for many reasons. If someone is naturally a timid or introverted person in general, they will always seem closed off and unapproachable without meaning to be, also everyone is different even if they may share similar traits or habits. Everyone has this misconception of what social anxiety is and how you should act.🤔

Most of us with social anxiety experience such situations (where a stranger approaches us with a request) pretty rarely so it's easy to accept - even on a bad day I reply courteously with a smile and it makes my day better knowing I helped someone. Although I don't condone being rude, I can understand how tiring it must be to have that situation 10x a day every day. I imagine I'd get pretty tired of it and I don't know how I'd handle it tbh

Hi Charlotte, watching your video today made my day a lot better. I also have social anxiety (diagnosed by doctor). As a teen I would lie to skip social gatherings because the sole idea of having to go made me extremely anxious and uncomfortable. Just this morning (because of something that happened to me earlier) I realised that I always go above and beyond for my friends and that I do my best to pleased them and bend to their needs whilst although they also help when needed, they do it as long as it doesn’t affect them greatly or mess with their lives greatly. Listening to you talk about social anxiety and being able to relate just made my day a lot better. Thank you for being so awesome and making the best videos - they always make me laugh and bright up my day.

I've noticed something. Most of these "problem encounters" with celebrities always involved getting something from them. Whether that be a picture or a tik tok (like, are you serious?😂) . And most people want those things so they can brag about it or even for the social currency/clout. I guarantee that most of these experiences would have been SO MUCH better if these people told the celebrity how much they meant to you and nothing else. Celebrities have already given so much of themselves to everyone. Don't meet them and try to take even more.

Jewel needs to be on this list. I worked at a nightclub. One night we were dead cuz there was a Jewel concert nearby. Suddenly, everyone flooded in and we were slammed. Turns out a MASS of people walked out on her concert because of what a witch she was. She would not let people drink, smoke, or talk while she was performing (in a venue that had "full bar with ID" on the tickets, so technically she was causing false advertising by refusing to let people drink). An intoxicated woman called for a cab, doing the responsible thing- Jewel literally STOPPED SINGING to yell at the woman and scream for security to remove her. The woman wasn't even near the stage, she was in the front of the venue near the entrance doors. Jewel's the ultimate Karen diva.
