It can't be all that hard doing a thorough job of research and getting these well known facts straight. Even if this channel doesn't care what they just throw out there, the people who watch and depend on correct facts do. This channel is very well known for incorrect facts on just about every video they pump out everyday. Narrator needs to be MORE aware of what he's presenting too. He's reading off of a paper script and trust what he's been given to read. Many facts are VERY well known and they still can't get them right. 🤔

I waited on him at Caesar's Palace in about 1975. Another man sitting in a booth in my station was waiting for someone. He looked at the door and said, "Could you please Mr. Carson to the table?" "Certainly," I replied, thinking, "Mr. Carson, Mr. Jones, Mr Smith" as I walked to the front of the restaurant with my head down. As I got to the entrance, there was Johnny Carson standing on the second step coming down into the room. I'm tall, so in a matter of seconds, I was literally eyeball to eyeball with... "OH! THAT Mr. Carson!. Apparently the man seated with him was an agent or lawyer or something, because Johnny, although keeping his voice down, was upset about something and this poor guy was really uncomfortable. He wasn't friendly to the staff, rather dismissive actually. What's really funny is that about a month later Ed McMahon showed up with a beautiful woman and accompanied by another glamorous looking couple. When I told him that Mr. Carson had been seated in the exact same spot he was in at that moment, Ed was clearly irritated. lol. Not long after that, Tommy Newsome, the laconic music director who took over the Tonight Show band when Doc Severinson was out, showed up too, but not in the same seat. He was about as "plain" and boring as could be. To add to the irony, right outside the back door to our restaurant was the famous Cleopatra's Barge, where Doc Severinson led the house band a few years earier. I thought, Now...if Doc shows up to eat here, and sits in my station as well...how crazy would that be? But he never did. Oh well.

All of them are consistently informative while being entertaining, while Carson relied on the same tired old shtick over and over, and had the sycophantic stooge Ed McMahon guffawing at all his jokes to create the illusion that he was clever and funny, when he was neither.

One time, in his dressing room, someone (I don’t know who) came in and said something to him that ticked him off…. So he kicked a lamp off his desk…. One thing that wasn’t talked about in this video was Carson’s drinking…. While drunk he wasn’t the nicest person and even he admitted to being a “bad” drunk…. A brilliant, talented but flawed man who made us laugh before going to sleep….

I always liked Rich Little. I saw him preforming "A Chistmas Carol" at the Sundome in "Sun City West" back in 19?? He did alot of his inpersonations as characters in "A Christmas Carol". He was quite good.

It's a shame about Joan Rivers. Carson took her for granted. As his permanent guest host Carson failed to invite her to the cast Xmas party three years running. Rivers" ratings were very high but she never received a raise. Johnny never called to discuss her performance on the show. Johnny had a big part in Rivers leaving.

Chevy used to play poker with Johnny in his weekly game. Carl Reiner and Steve Martin were also regulars at those games. Chevy said he had a cheeky personality, which some may not have understood. Chevy has been in a long marriage and has some good kids, so he seems somewhat content.

Steve Martin came on the show and lampooned the A-list celebs (i.e. bob hope) who'd always leave early. Martin did his bit and quickly bid adieu, on!y to sheepishly return to couch, sobbing that he wanted to make himself look more important by having to leave early. The problems between Joan and Johnny did not exist at the time she was still invited to the show as Johnny's guest. Joan was working on getting her own show and never did mention that to Johnny until it became public. This was part of this very video narrative. Perhaps you weren't paying attention to the detail. If I'm not mistaken, Carson banned the Youngbloods (not exactly celebrities), before his show aired. It had something to do with their not being happy with the setup of their equipment. Carson axed them and then excoriated them in his telling the audience why they were not going to appear.

Don't professional musicians know best how their equipment needs to be set up? Why argue with them about it? Was Johnny an expert on the matter? Sounds like his attitude was "My way or the highway." Just because one is the host doesn't mean he knows everything, nor does it give him the right to dictate such matters. The following wasn't Johnny Carson's show -- the following was a rehearsal for a show in which I was going to participate at our county fair, which was to present new talent: I was a victim of a so-called "back-up" band our local songwriters guild had hired to accompany our performances. The all-male band members kept trying to tell me I couldn't play my own guitar, simply because it was acoustic. Ever hear of an acoustic pick-up to plug into an amplifier? Or of miking the sound hole? There are ways to amplify an acoustic guitar, and to be discriminated against simply because my instrument wasn't electric was grossly unfair. I decided to ditch the "back-up" band, whose members were more interested in bullying me and other guild members (nearly all female) than backing us up, and I performed my original song solo. The audience at the fair loved it, so I won in the end.

I heard Rich talk about this on Larry King's radio show, but he said at the time he never could get an answer out of Johnny or Fred De Corveda as to why he was dropped. Rich said he "might've said something [Johnny didn't like], or maybe it's that Johnny likes to do Reagan," so he might not have wanted somebody coming on the show and doing a better impression. But Rich was really hurt by it.

I have no idea why Hope is on this list. However, there is something I find confusing about his relationship with Carson. Johnny confided to friends that he was always exasperated with Bob, because he says he couldn't get him to engage in a normal conversation. He said he would ask Bob about some place he'd been, or whatever, and Bob would just say "Isn't that wild?", and continue with his prepared text. Yet, I've seen a video where he and Johnny, and the other panel guests, were having a real conversation. So, I don't know....

Yes, having standards in a professional and personal life may seem like a "bad temper" but is it really? And some people you just don't get along with. This list is miniscule compared to the thousands of guests Johnny had. And the thing is he gave every single one a shot - sometimes many as with Rivers. But no one could ever be classified as Carson's enemy.

Dick Shawn. The guy who played the actor who played Hitler in "The Producers." I saw him on the Tonight Show once as a guest. The interview got so out of hand - he was a bit of a nut-job - that by the end, he'd flipped Johnny's desk over, had Johnny and Ed pretending to row it like a boat, and stood in the prow like George Washington crossing the Delaware. The audience went nuts. The show went to commercial. When it returned, he was gone, and I don't think he ever returned.

Johnny Carson was The Greatest in my opinion of All the Late Nites Then & Now. (Definitely now)!! I can’t say I blame him for a single one of this group. A bit surprised by Ole Blue Eyes but I’m sure Dino & the “Gang” smoothed it over. The rest of em-Sandra Bernhardt Sinead (?) & of course Howard Stern are just plain Nasty & in my opinion, taking up good Air I could be breathin. Then the Egos of Sly Stone Chevy Chase & Probably even Bob Hope were likely a bit Large for comfort. Then there’s Miss Joan Rivers who was just a flat out Back Stabber although I did like her what she did to Johnny was unnecessary & it seems it came back to Bite her anyway. Well that’s my 2 cents. Chevy Chase was never a direct competitor with Johnny he retired in 1992 the Chevy Chase show did not start until 1993 so there's no way he could have been banned for that reason

Charlie Callas was banned. During his interview as a gag he pushed Johnny so hard he almost flipped backward out of his chair. Johnny was stunned and offended. Thereafter, Callas was only allowed on when there was a guest host. One night while Johnny was on vacation Joan Rivers had Callas on. He did a funny bit on drums doing his signature sound effects. The following week when Johnny returned from vacation he had his regular drummer, Ed Shaughnessy, do an identical bit making sound effects like Callas. Johnny didn't acknowledge that Callas had done the same thing the week earlier. I saw both shows and for years wondered about those two shows and Callus's performance not being acknowledged by Johnny. I later learned of the incident when Callas pushed Johnny. The snub was clearly meant to disrespect Callas.
