Red Skelton was brilliant and his humour appealed to everyone. I remember watching him on our B&W tv in the 60’s with my dad when I was a little girl and we both giggled and hooted with laughter. Today’s comedians could learn a lot from Red’s gentle heart.

He was a very kind person with a beautiful soul ! I met him shortly before his passing on the streat with his assistant caregiver in portland or. Red would take walks downtown to find homeless or needy people and give them cash $100 each that he would have in rolls of small bills wrapped in rubber bands sometimes he would leave a roll where a needy person would find it accidentally and watch from a distance to see them when they found it. His biggest joy in life was sharing the kindness he was known for giving all of us all our lives and his.

​@@warmlantern0000 watching this replay of a show aired in 1983 just drives home the change in the quality of presentation of subject matter and how much has changed. there was plenty to enjoy not hearing explicit and foul language or seeing" lucy and ricky ricardo" manage to have a baby while sleeping in separate twin beds as did ""robert and laura petrie" mary tyler moore and doris day, marlo thomas and barbara millicent roberts aka barbie the doll were women i could appreciate. carol burnett and so many other wonderful people who brought us "entertainment" did it with well chosen words acts and deeds and the 4 letter words used were "luck" and "love". ❤️

But he is someone that becomes an acquired taste after a few times and he was truly a force of nature! However, I never ever could ever understand why everyone thought Danny Kaye was so wonderful. 🤔 I always thought so silly and prissy and thought he was in love with himself. By the way, his show was on CBS and Judy Garland was also starring with her weekly hour long musical show on Sunday nights at the very same time as "Bonanza"! Why did they cancel her and keep the very boring and untalented Danny Kaye? 🤔 You can watch most of her 26 hour-long shows here on KZbin. These legendary shows are now iconic and are still in great demand. What ever happened to Danny Kaye and all of his many shows?

I remember the trouble my mother had putting me to bed when The Red Skelton Show was on. I must have been five years old at the time. She would get me in bed and a few minutes later I would be watching his show from the hall. She’d tell me to back to bed but it was fruitless. I’d be standing in the hallway agin within minutes, watching Red’s show. Finally, my mother conceded defeat. She’d let me stay up and watch his show; and when it was over, it was off to bed for me. That’s how it was until I was old enough my mother didn’t have to fight me. To this day sixty years later, I am still fond of Red Skelton. When I see him on videos like this, I have to tune in. Johnny’s presence adds to the experience. Two of the greats.

Red Skelton was a favorite of my family all through the 50's and early 60's. He was a devoted husband and blessed people everywhere with his humor and love of life and people. He is an example of real comedy without the use of vulgarity or hurtful words.

Two all time greats. It reminds me of the heyday of TV when you could find wholesome and genuinely funny entertainment that the entire family could enjoy and watch together. The whole country tuned in and watched these truly talented guys and others like them on a regular basis. They helped unite the country and contribute to solidifying it around a common culture based on patriotism, and love and respect of others as opposed to today's comedy which with a few exceptions is dark, vulgar, divisive and not very funny. RIP Johnny Carson and Red Skelton. We love you still.

@@slcRN1971 yes most of the hollywood stars from the 1930s and 40s and even 50s all aged prematurely. Most all of them were alcoholics, which aged them worst of all! Just look at Bette Davis, and William Holden who rapidly aged worse than most. Sadly, even before he was 50, years old he looked at least 70. However, our beloved Red Skelton looked much older here. Alcohol was popular and was accepted by everyone and not just by all the Hollywood and New York celebrities! It was also among most all of the upper lower and middle classes of America. There were martinis, whiskey sours, liquor such as gin, vodka, rum etc on the rocks. Drugs later which have now ruined the world today. Alcohol and drugs have always been a hazard to the entertainment profession. They are also prevalent today among labor workers such as mechanics, body men, painters, roofers and oh so very many more.😟

I visited my sister in San Diego California in 1997 shortly before Red died. While there I came across his art gallery and could have bought one of his paintings. They were all up for sale and I think most of the smaller ones I could have afforded, but decided to pass. It's one of the true regrets of my life! Sometimes in life... a chance comes but once, and if you don't take it.... it never comes around again. I'm sure his artwork skyrocketed in price after his death. He was a national treasure and I loved how he ended his 60's program with a smile and a "God bless" As a kid... it really impressed upon me that there was indeed, a God..... out there somewhere.

The funniest line ever from Red.... During one of his shows he announces to the audience that he's going to sing them a song. He then starts packing wadded cotton in his ears. Knowing that they are wondering what in the world he's doing, he looks up at the audience and says, "I've heard this tune before, and I don't care for it..." Brilliant.

I also grew up watching Red Skelton with my parents. It was good, clean comedy. My most treasured memory is buying tickets (as an adult) to see Red in Omaha- as a Christmas present for mom & dad. The show lasted 2hrs, Mr. Skelton all by himself! As we were slowly exiting the crowded theater- my dad took me by the shoulders and gave me a BIG kiss...in front of GOD + EVERYBODY!! Red Skelton embodied humor. He took life as it came and laughed his way through it while helping all who saw him laugh with him. I can never watch anything he does without smiling. The world needs that humor and spirit again.

I found out about Red Skelton as a kid. I was at my grandparents (late 1980s)and that particular night I was sick with the flu. I watched some of his skits and started to feel better just after watching guzzlers gin. Ever since then I have been a big fan.

I was fortunate enough to see Red in concert. He didn't use any acts or stunts to warm the audience. He didn't need to do anything like that. He came out and from the time he stepped up to the mic until he walked off the stage he had about 17,000 people laughing. A true American Icon. God bless you Red and Johnny. I look forward to seeing you both perform again if I make it to heaven as well.

@@sarahmodicbradley8102 I noticed that too, as if Red slipped in a "blue" word and they overdubbed it with "garaged". I believe Carson was behind the wheel of his Delorean when he was cited for driving under the influence in 1982. I'm sure the joke was related to that.

I met Mr Skelton twice. Once while my Mother had taken us to D.C. for summer vacation. We met this esteemed gentleman at the Jefferson Memorial. A classy man. Several years later I again met this gentleman and after a few moments he said that he remembered me. I had breakfast with him. I'll never forget this true American treasure.

I’m 73 and watching this video just made me happy. I laughed when I watched him back then and was always mindful of his serious closings. Often sweet heartfelt words with hope and insight. I can never remember a joke be often carried that thought into my bed that night. I’m sure you are in God’s eternal embrace. Thank you Red.

I had the unique pleasure of being Red Skelton's Bellman once. I was so excited, primarily because our family watched his TV show every week during the 60'/70's. As I was leaving his room, I offered my services if he needed anything brought to his room. He called down later, and asked for a cooler of beer, Heineken. I jumped in our hotel van and brought him his 12 pack of beer and a styrofoam cooler with ice. When he left the next day, he gave me a $50 tip. This was 1984.

I saw him in 1991 at the Brady theater. He did an hour and a half at least on stage alone, just him and that hat. Earlier that day hw wandered around downtown and made friends with the merchants. The next day, before he left, he went around and gave his paintings to his new friends. A real giant of a person.

Saw Skelton in Cleveland in the mid 70s. He did an hour show then came out after the show for another 20-30 minutes just to talk to the audience and take questions. A great performer.
