Kobe was also fluent in Italian having spent a large part of his childhood in Italy. Because of that, he was able to pick up Spanish fairly quickly. On the Lakers, he had Spanish and Italian teammates and he would converse with them in both Spanish and Italian. Kobe loved learning languages and would often talk trash to his opponents in their native language.

Yeah. I think his mother tongue was Italian, and he learned English when he moved to the US in high school.

@@Moni633-00 His first language was English, but he moved to Italy quite young at the age of 6 and didn't move back to the US until he was 13 or so. I watched a video of him speaking Italian and some Italians in the comments said he sounded like a native speaker with the accent from the region he had lived in.
