I live in the city that Jamie came to here in the US. He went into the schools here and tried to replace the entire menu. He took out the pizza and replaced it with spaghetti that was made of veg. He also ignored the states guidelines on how much of each food group was to be served at each meal. The kids hated it, and the kids and the school quickly threw his stuff out. The school board wanted to make sure kids were eating since this might be the only thing they would eat that day. WV is very poor, and some kids wouldn’t have meals if it wasn’t for school lunches. Several schools even offer free lunches during the summer.

Brian+Frenchy, I fully agree with your take on comments: I could think "well, Ramsay's earnt the right to do whatever he wants", but have the humility to say "this is my take on X Y or Z dish" (which is outside one's training / expertise / zone of comfort). Let's say, I'd love to see Jacques Pepin cook carbonara, but I'm sure he wouldn't pull a Jamie Oliver and say "this is the most authentic spaghetti carbonara you will try" and start with butter (as he obviously will, cause we know butter rocks!). Man, just have an iota of humbleless, know what you know and either go 1) full legit Wellington Ramsay or 2) day this is your SYWGF interpretation of Lebanese Kibbe Naieh and make it steak tartare-like, incorporating Paul's background and maybe a weird, non-arabic take by Brian or pilaf with Lao Gan Ma. Just don't sell yourself as an "authority" if I can outclass you as a mediocre home chef but incorporating a little reading and practice but definitely more passion than you, clown.

Storror crew is the bomb they are a UK based Parkour group. They've got a bunch of real great challenge vids. Note the scenes they do like the one you showed are all rehearsed so the security guard and people chasing are playing parts. For videos like this they have permission from the building, they are usually sponsored, they have insurance, crews off camera, etc. Parkour is considered a performance artform where the end product is a performance piece that has been rehearsed and orchestrated (e.g. dancers, or gymnasts doing floor work at the Olympics all performing pre-arranged pieces). The sport of Freerunning is the variant of parkour that is about making up stunts in the moment (e.g. freestyle skateboarding). You'll tend to see more over the top moves in Parkour as they are all pre-scouted out and practiced incrementally in stages and then strung together. For real complex jumps they will measure the jumps and setup mock conditions on the ground or in the gym to practice the jumps over and over. Something this big probably involved several months of work to put together, rehearse, get the timings correct, etc.

I've been saying what Brain said earlier for years - being good at one cuisine does NOT make you an experr in all the cooking. Jamie (and many other celebrity "chefs") is a classic example of what I call "emperor's new clothes syndrome". At some point you get too big for your own head, you're surrounded by toadies, the money keeps rolling in and at some point you start believing you can do no wrong. So you start doing crazy things - somtimes possibly just to see if you can get away with trolling.

I think it's about educating the viewer/consumer wrongly / misinformation. If you make a video for a specific dish, it should be a traditional. If you do something different or substitute ingredients, educate the viewer and tell them why you do it. Otherwise you just "teached" millions of viewers a wrong thing. Those millions of viewers then might not even like the traditional dish if they ever taste it. A similar thing is happening with wine. If a Barolo tastes like a Bordeaux Blend, something is wrong. They doctored it to make it heavy, bold, sweet, oaky, etc. Sure it'll appeal to some wine drinkers, but it's not what a Barolo should taste like. If they ever have a traditional Barolo they'll think "eww doesn't taste like a Barolo at all" Sorry for the rant xD
@Puzzlesocks5 ай бұрын
I don't actually agree, even though I understand the point. At a certain point we should call it a different dish, or a certain person's interpretation, but if you get too into the minutia you end up with where wine is at where everything is named by the year. A recipe should be standardized enough so that it is recognizable but loose enough to allow for personal tastes. If you want to get into what is "traditional" you're going to find thousands of different homes that traditionally make the same thing differently. This goes for a lot of things, you can be taught hundreds of different ways to throw a punch from a variety of different martial disciplines. All of them are effective for their purpose and all of them are traditional. Not defending some of the food crimes people like Jamie Oliver does. It's fine if the recipe is changed a bit, but it should still taste good and be executed as well as possible for the purpose out of respect for life.
@fnherzog5 ай бұрын
