I sure would like to hear about that. I've been in love with her a long time. I knew a woman like her, a co-worker at a restaurant, just a sweetheart, a fine singer; I wrote some songs for her, we recorded together. I loved her dearly but she was/is too young for me and deserved a high-spirited man. I felt like having her sing my songs was close enough to making love with her. I imagine many men felt that way about Nicolette. There's a moment in the official video of "Lotta Love", as the second saxophone break ends; she's smiling, turning back to share a look with the bass player, and she whips back around with a crazy, gleeful snap, clapping her hands together, like, "Isn't this fun? Isn't life great?" THAT'S the vibe she always gave off, and it was/is infectious.

She doesn't hesitate to speak intelligently and at length about a book she read--James Michener's "Hawaii." How many of today's pop entertainers would even admit in public that they read books?

Like you, I was young (14) when I first heard Nicolette Larson solo on "Lotta Love," written by Neil Young. At the age I was, not yet experiencing dating and so forth, notions of love -- real love -- sung by Nicolette Larson gave me hope of experiencing/feeling that as an adult. Nicolette singing "Lotta Love" is singularly responsible for my stopping playing with dolls. Back then, playing with dolls, especially teen dolls, was normal for sheltered youngsters. My mom was stern, and when she heard me spinning that song on my record player, she grounded me. I guess "Lotta Love"'s suggestive horn lines were too much for her. Little did she know, I was repeat-listening to Deneice Williams' "Free" -- the 12-inch record -- back in 1977, when I was 12, slow-dancing with my huge stuffed teddy bear. lol ... But my mom drew the line at "Lotta Love" and Minnie Riperton's "Inside My Love." (My mom passed away in 1980, 11 months after Minnie Riperton died.) Thank goodness I was only listening to Minnie's "Inside My Love" on the radio, else Mommie Dearest would've stomped that very sexy record to pieces.😆 ... All of that said, RIP Nicolette Larson💐, Minnie Riperton💐 and Mom🥀 🙏🏼Never to be forgotten🕊
