I personally knew Damian, but as Bruce back in the 80's when we used to sing together in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I knew him from 1985 to 1987 before he relocated to California. Bruce was a very talented, kind, giving and with a great personality! I met him at a local talent show in Kalamazoo and we practiced together at a old mansion off Douglass and West Michigan Ave in Kalamazoo. He was a heavy smoker of cigarettes and could play the hell out of a piano. Once he relocated to California, we lost contact with one another. The next time I saw Bruce was when he became a part of Damian Dame! I never reached out to him, because I didn't want to look like I was only contacting him for his fame! It hurt my heart to hear he passed away! I'll always have mad respect for Bruce! May the both of them Peacefully Rest🙏🏾! Love you Brother, Adrian Todd

@@plawson8577 Good afternoon Patrick, I appreciate your kind comment, thank-you! At the time I knew Bruce he was a heavy smoker, but he could have changed his habit when he received his record deal to preserve his voice? All I know is that Bruce was a good friend and extremely talented! We loss a good one too soon😞! I'm sadden by the loss of your Aunt🙏🏾💜🙏🏾! May you and your family heal and find comfort during this difficult time Brother, Amen🙏🏾

Adrian Todd Price Thank you Adrian! The Lord Bless you and Family! Bruce and Debra were a talented Duo/Couple that had so much potential. They didn’t even get a 2nd Chance and tragedy stuck before it could happen. They were both kindred spirits. Both born in September, Birthdays a Week apart, and 8 years apart and passed away on the same day two years apart. I spoke to Lynn, one of Bruce’s younger Cousins, she says he was sick with Pancreatic Cancer for over a year in late ‘94 to Mid 1996. He kept it a secret from his wife Carol for almost a year as his mother kept flying him back and forth between Atlanta and Kalamazoo for treatment. He died Thursday Morning June 27,1996 in Hospice surrounded by his family on the 2nd year anniversary of Debra’s death.

Hello and thank you for this! Damian Dame whose real name is Bruce Broadus is my cousin! What info that I can give you is that when we were younger we would go over to my Aunt Allenes house to play with our cousin Bruce and his sister Angie. My Aunt was a social worker for the BCPS system ...she had every instrument you could think of in her basement and Bruce played them all. We would spend hours as kids.... Writing songs and designing album covers that always had a parliament/EFW feel to them.. Bruce lived in Kalamazoo Mi. for awhile where he fathered a son (not sure if he has anymore.. I just remember the one).. before he hit the road to stardom. His father passed when we were young but his Sister and Mom are doing fine. Yes he dedicated his last album to Dia and he died on the exact date of her death... While he resided in Atlanta he started having bad stomach trouble ...ended up in the hospital and was diagnosed with cancer ... His mom and my mom flew out immediately .... He passed within the week.

Lynn Williams Debra was killed in a Head on collision during a Freak Early Summer Thundershower in Atlanta on Monday June 27,1994. Bruce was actually diagnosed with Cancer in October 1994, and was Very Sick during production of 199Sex. I’m not sure how long he was sick? Would you mind telling us? Didn’t he have Pancreatic Cancer? And died Thursday June 27,1996?

@@plawson8577 out of respect I really don't know what I can or cannot say about Bruce's life. I am going to send this to his Sister. My aunt is 70years old now. And I'm really not sure if everything that she had to go through during and after his death is something she wants to talk about. But I will see. My mom said at one point she didn't want some of his memorabilia. She may have been too upset. My mom says she has the original copies of the duo on BET with Donnie Simpson because my aunt didn't want it. I do believe there were issues about money and his last album ... Not sure how it all worked out but I remember listening to them saying that it was a bunch of mess. I can tell you that Bruce was adopted by Aunt Allene and Uncle Ollie. Most people don't know that. His sister (no blood relation) Angie .. was adopted as well.

Good story! I was a senior in high school when this group made their national debut! If possible there are many other artists during that time that can be covered such as THE GOOD GIRLS, MC TROUBLE, TRACEY SPENCER, COOKIE CREW, PARTY POSSE,7-A3, XCLAN, MISTA, TERRANCE TRENT DARBY, PRINCESS, ETC. I'm sort of a music historian too, maybe I can assist with bringing the stories of these artists to the front. In the meantime, keep up the good work brother!✊🏿

I recently discovered the group " Damian Dame " & was so sad to hear about the passing of them both. For some reason there's always been so many rumors about her car accident. I remember scrolling down comments in their videos and people were saying she was driving a scooter / moped & ran into a tree or on the freeway ( for some reason I can't see her being on a moped on the interstate ) , than the next rumor was she was driving on the atlanta spaghetti junction & hydoplaned off the loop into oncoming traffic. I don't know what to believe, I guess because I'm so afraid of car accidents ( I've been in a few myself ) that it scares the hell out of me knowing how aggressive /fast things can happen. I hope she or Bruce didn't suffer during their transition. Debra's voice always reminded me of Michel'e & Minnie Ripperton

I use to love Right down to it. I still listen to that when I play my 90 s music, which is every week. I would give anything to get that music back and that level of talent. We don't see musicians who can sing n play instruments like we use to. I always wondered what happened to them. I figured they fell victim to one of the things that break up most groups ,either in group fighting, fame goes to somebody's head, (David Ruffin syndrome) somebody gets a drug/ alcohol problem, bad contract ,somebody stealing from them ,somebody outside in one of their ear pitting them against each other or somebody wanna go solo..This guy was like a less known Babyface,he was slick with the writing/ producing. I didn't realize they died on the same day. That is so freaky. They need to do an Unsung on them. He didn't live long enough to fulfill his potential,no telling how much furtherr he could've gone. RIP Damian Dame.....Shannon b.

Debra Hurd, b.k.a. Deah Dame is/was so pretty, with the cutest/sexiest lil' babyish voice, reminiscent of R&B singer Michel'le. She was very shy off stage, like in interviews and the such, but when on the stage, she was a ball of energy. May the "Most High" bless her soul, as well as the soul of her group mate, Bruce Brodus, b.k.a. Damian...

The crazy thing about it is that back in the day you had to have real talent and shine from your own gifts. These days all you need is a cute face and a catchy hook and you’re a star.
