As a Bay Area native, I was a die hard Hammer fan. He brought excitement, showmanship and mainstream diversity to hip hop at a time when it was extremely taboo. I appreciate him for going against the grain in spite of the backlash. Thanks for the great video. He was a hip hop superhero to me!

I saw hammer in concert as a kid and to this day it is still one of the most entertaining and mesmerizing shows I've ever attended.. The only thing that happened to Hammer is he wanted to take the hood with him... And that's what broke him.. He used to have what looked like 100 people on stage with him and those people had to eat... And he was feeding them.. But they say Hammer ain't no sucka... Hammer was not doing anything different or special at the time. You have to remember that "gangster rap" at the time of his first few albums was actually the minority of artists/albums. While gangster rap did become more and more popular as the years went by, Hammer did keep his original style , it did also get to the point where he decided to start doing gangster rap himself. By that time the industry had shifted and no one bought into his fake image.

That's a false narrative. The truth is closer to the fact that he wasn't a very good lyricist and he emphasized performance over content. Its kitschy to just claim people hated on him because he was clean. But Kid n Play were popular as hell and they were also clean and so was Heavy D , Chubb Rock, Arrested Development, DelaSoul, all popular around the same time as hammer. The difference is they could actually rap.

I remember my college days and waiting for a MC Hammer video to come on tv. I would drop everything to get up and mimic what I saw(good ol' days). You had to know how & when to breathe dancing like that 😉. I didn't know he had so many albums because you only watched the popular videos or heard the popular songs on the radio. Singles were popular back in the 80s so I know that hurt album sales for everybody. I purchased a lot of those. I hated buying an entire album and only one song would be hot and the rest just trash 🙄. As far as putting a hit out on 3rd Bass, I don't believe that but talking about someone's Mother? That's off limits besides that's a Black thang, 3rd Bass wouldn't've understood even though they we're straight jocking us. Yeah I said it! They were frontin' to be accepted by us. I came up in the Bay Area. Hammer was everything. I randomly met a couple of his dancers after his so-called demise and they said he was always a cool dude, always trying to look out for everybody. I think the best thing that could have happened to him was to be removed from the industry when he was because IMO it all went downhill when gangsta rap took over. Man's rejection is God's protection. He ended up in the Stockton area suburbs, I believe, living a quiet life with his family. I'm glad he found peace.

Love Hammer! He was in my city in 2019 for his Hammer's House Party Tour. The opening acts were Kid n Play, Coolio, Biz Marke (rip) & DJ Kool. When I tell you I was so HYPE! I had never seen Hammer before and I was living my 80s kid dream lol. During "U can't Touch This" his team brought me and about 15 other people on stage with Hammer to jam. I almost lost my mind with excitement lol.😄 Afterwards I was able to meet him backstage. Hammer is one of the nicest, most humble celebrities I have ever met. We took pictures, chatted a bit, I gifted him a piece of art work I created and he was so appreciative. It was definitely a moment I will remember. I always enjoy these videos. Hmm, oh, can you do one on Kelis please? I always wondered what happened to her? I really like her. Thank you!😁

Hammer was one of those rappers that stood out. The songs and creativities he put out were unmatched and the fans loved him. I'm not ashame to say I was one of his biggest fans and no, his life wasn't perfect or all peaches and cream, he fell like anyone else. But he knew what to do to pick himself up and keep it moving, without drugs, booze, women and baby mamas. He still would make for a good role model.

Considering how rappers are thriving being independent today, he could've been a pioneer & remained independent. Maybe his career would've last longer had he not have to cater to what Capitol Records wanted . Then, when it didn't work any longer they, ditch him.
