I always felt icky about high fashion and how weird the concept in itself was. Recent events have confirmed that my gut instinct was right. Balenciaga cannot claim negligence on this issue as it has been found they have hinted similarly disturbing stuff in other shoots long prior to this one. And it’s not like one guy is looking at these shoots, every inch of a fashion shoot is meticulously designed and many peoples eyes are involved. The whole institution is perverse in this case.

The interesting thing is that NO ONE in the company thought there was any issue. That shows a culture from top to bottom - that there was zero red flags and this was all absolutely ok - these ‘progressive types’ feel it their mission to push the envelope and boundaries of what is accepted. From the concept creation of the fluffy backpack ... someone in the design room pitched in “hey let’s make it queer, and add leather” ... and everyone agreed. They likely said something like “we need to use our influence to accept and normalise queerness - that’s on trend” Then on the shoot - they would have to brief the photographer “we need a few kids” - call in a model agency, do you have any kids available - little angelic looking kids, we want to dress them up in bondage. What is next - a range of ball gags for toddlers? My-First-Gimpmask? Then, for the ‘office scene’... to consciously find the page of the child pornography court decisions and slip it into the setup thinking “no one will know” but it’ll just be a little nod. There are so many individuals involved in the design, Production, marketing, advertising - and every single one of them is complicit in this.

I'm realizing that being a celebrity is like living in an airplane. The passenger next to you might be a monster, but you can't shoot it without crashing the entire plane. Now if some hero passenger like Trump or Kanye does try to shoot some monsters, everyone will attack the hero because these celebs are more worried about keeping the plane in the sky than stopping monsters.
