The more I grow up, the more I'm convinced that not being rich is actually a blessing. Just having enough money for a decent and stable life is the perfect sweet spot. Anything more will, in many cases, turns into a curse.
@Azugon3 ай бұрын
you only get what you desire not what all the money you have could possibly buy you. E.g. drugs are not that expensive at small doses on the consuming end yet we decide if want to consume or not. I was 16 and I got a job at a luxury hotel as a receptionist. I had an old man try to get me to come to his room after shift. I politely declined, the other girl working with me and the manager on shift had to essentially hide me at the back. The old man kept screaming and demanding me to come out. I had to be escorted to my moms car after my shift. I ended up getting fired at the end of my probation and it was because the old man was filthy rich and friends with the owner.

For what it’s worth, I took my wife to Punta Cana in the DR for our honeymoon, and it was absolutely fantastic. We made sure to treat & tip the staff, and it was glorious. Probably my favorite memory was a dune buggy trip we took, my wife laughing as I drove through mud puddles, and then going (covered in mud) through some poor sections of the town, and going into a local store. In that half day, we enjoyed luxury (fresh passion fruit!), an adventure in the mud, and saw the worst poverty I’ve ever seen - a reminder of humanity. I’m way off track from whatever my point was, but the Dominican Republic was awesome for us. 10/10 would do it again. Would retire there if I could support myself and help the people.

Power-hungry. I have seen it. These people are so rich that what the average person works hard towards (house, car, a vacation, gifts for birthdays and celebrations) they have this in abundance, either through their hard work, or it has all been given to them. I have seen the uber-rich up close and many are so unfulfilled because when a man like me works all year long and puts aside money so I can go with my family on a vacation with my two weeks of annual time off, they can live like they are on that two weeks off 24/7. Life becomes boring. Eating fine food, always wearing fashionable clothing, driving or being driven in fancy cars, living in mansions, sailing on a yacht every weekend. It is as normal to them as a Sunday drive with the kids is to me. So the only thrill is to experience more and more extreme things such as what the speaker highlighted in the video. That being said, having worked for these people as a Chef, I will say most of the Elite are not this way, in my experience. Most of them are normal decent people that just have extreme wealth. But the minority that acts in that extreme way is sickening.

My ex-girlfriend worked at a luxury hotel in Victoria, BC as a room cleaner. She told that very important and rich people rented a whole floor once and she walked into the room to clean it after they were gone. Feces was literally spread on the walls, ceiling and floor. She obviously didn't clean it and reported the situation to management which quietly hired a hazmat specialist cleaning team. My girlfriend told me that she saw the people that rented the room coming back because they forgot something. I worked for multiple hotels, some low end, some high end, and the disparity is compelling. The 2 star hotels I worked at were pretty run of the mill tame, but the toxicity and exploitation of the five star hotels was enough for me to hate the entire industry of upper class hotels. In particular, the housekeepers were specifically hired to be illegal immigrants. This was by design, as the management knew they could pay them much less and crack the metaphorical whip much harder on them, all while making them work extremely hard, even if it was off the clock, knowing that they were all desperate for work and fearing deportation. I was hired by a third party company to upkeep each rooms minibar (hiring third party is another way that these hotels exploit workers by paying less and getting more) so I used to be in very close contact with house keeping. I would see some of these women break down crying in rooms. The worst one was when I overhead an emotional conversation from one house keeper to another about how she was being sexually abused by one of the management staff, and she couldn't do anything about it... no one could. The hotel industry presents with a smile, but once you get a look behind the curtain, it's a very dirty industry built off hierarchy and exploitation.

And honestly, this is by no means a luxury hotel, i can't even imagine how toxic it must be in hotels and restaurants for super-rich like this guy is referring to.

This is so true. Every time I've ever been tipped it was from somebody from my walk of life who had it just as hard if not harder. Having money does something to a person's psyche to as if they've always wanted to look down on people and when they got the chance they took it overboard and made it seem like there was a good day by ruining yours and they'll go out the way to make you hate them. The people I know that work there always say it’s a good environment to work in, and most of the time, it caters to families. Last time I was on vacation, I went to this hotel, and everything about it seemed a little off. I got the opposite of the feeling of security I get from the aforementioned hotel. They wouldn’t let me in the pub because of my clothing, there was random people hiding in the bushes, a night club attached to the place, construction work in sight, random sketchy signs, and on the day I checked out there were policemen with rifles standing guard outside the place because apparently politicians were meeting there. I didn’t think anything of it so I said sure. I was the only person on staff all night and our hotel had about 210 rooms. Thinking of it now that’s crazy that management would let me run the hotel by myself at night. No security staff either. So I went to the second floor, knocked on the door, he opened the door and said “do you wanna come in my room?” I said “no” and then he grabbed my arm and tried luring me in his room and I said “no I don’t want to. Let go of me.” And I walked back downstairs. The next morning I told management about it and they told me to have customers come downstairs if they need something.

One time I was walking to the elevator to go downstairs and a young girl about 15 years old came out. She looked at me with sad eyes and was about to embrace me thinking I was her client for the night. I walked passed her and she looked confused. I then heard a door open and a older guy telling her that he’s the guy she’s looking for. So yeah I believe sex trafficking happens often at the four seasons. I think it was Mark Twain who said "We are just animals trying to be Human Beings," and money and power have the potential of bringing out more the animal in us, than the humanity in us. And the saying "We are just animals trying to be Human Beings" is even unfair to animals, if you think about it, because animals probably even have more boundaries than we Human Beings. For example wild animals will not attack if they do not feel under threat or provoked. Wild animals only usually attack if they feel threatened or if provoked. For instance, hyenas love provoking lions, just for the sake of it at times, even when there is nothing at stake, and lions brutally kill hyenas that provoke them, the hyenas not lucky to escape that is. Lions react badly to provocation from other animals too, not just from hyenas, though hyenas are the most notorious when it comes to provoking lions. We Human Beings can be less disciplined than animals in this respect in the sense that when we have "money, power and influence," we have tendencies to feel that we now have the "right" to violate "any and all societal boundaries and societal norms," including rights of other Human Beings. When I was young I had been traveling with my best friend. I can't remember if it was the day before or the day after Valentines Day, but we just COULD NOT find a hotel room. We stopped at five hotels before we finally found a room. We just casually mentioned how difficult we had found it to find a room and that we were relieved to finally find one to the front desk staff. They responded "Well yea, rich men spend Valentines Day with their wives and tonight they book hotels with their Mistress". They stated it so casually and plainly, like it was common knowledge entire hotels are filled with cheating husbands a certain day of the year. I'll never forget it.

Ive seen married men in the lobby of my hotel drinking with other women while their wives were up in the room. In one instance the man came to the desk to put a 2nd room on his credit card for these girls he'd just met in the lobby and went to the room with them while his wife was in their room. People have No shame, they act like once they get behind the walls of a hotel that the rules don't apply

I was 16 when I first met a drug cartel and human traffickers. They tried twice to grab me I was an attractive teenager that they thought they would make a lot of money from. My mom caught on and needless to say I did everything in my power at 16 worked with authorities to catch them. I drew sketches of everyone involved as well as wrote down license plates. I can remember running into my uncles restaurant crying walking to my moms work from school when I was being followed and they tried to grab me. It was scary but I had to be strong I had been raped as a child and unfortunately that has stayed with me always. I wanted to protect any other girl from going thru what I had been forced to endure for three years as a child. My heart is heavy with horrible memories of the things that I was forced to do. I’m surprised I didn’t grow up with any drug or alcohol issues I do my best to be strong

It's not just super rich people, I worked at a 'normal range' hotel on the Cote d'Azur 15 years ago, as a receptionist, and I often had to call the manager because people were being unreasonable and were thinking they had royal priviliges or something... The manager was a calm dude that always remained polite and tried to fulfill their needs, but if the guests took discussions to far or became verbally aggressive, he would suddenly freeze, tell them 'I don't need you in my hotel', and literally throw them out😄 He demanded high work ethic and professionalism from his staff, but would always defend us from crazy customers...
@ftm2ray2 жыл бұрын
It must have been easy for your manager to throw them out because they weren't rich and powerful. Just entitled. The difference is they must face the consequences of their actions while the rich rarely do, right?
@baardagaam2 жыл бұрын
@@ftm2ray i think there was some lack of 'very high end' hotels in that specific city, so sometimes we had guests in our hotel that were very 'upper class'/millionaires, simply because there was no availailibity in 5 stars hotels in the region on the days they were visiting... Those 'upper class' people were (without exception) very well behaved and polite , but keep in mind this was 15 years ago , and in a more 'traditional' part of Europe. These days capitalism has accelerated, and the world is filled with 'nouveaux riches' types without a proper education... And the Russians/oligarchs, that's just a whole other ballgame: Moscow has been a 'pirate city' since the fall of the Sovjet Union, so those that became rich/powerfull in that environment tend to have very criminal personalities. I remember a few Russians that were thrown out of our hotel, by our angry manager. They were extremely surprised that all their money and connections did not matter a dime when they weren't acting like a European gentleman...

A good friend of mine worked in a luxury hotel in Italy. Once, there was a wedding from a group of wealthy people from USA. One woman casually came asking my friend if someone could go by flight to new York take her hat she forget in her appartment. My friend had to go verify with his manager if that's something they would do for the Girl. Sometimes people are so disconnected it's crazy

Years ago, I worked at two different high-end private resorts. One was more public facing, which attracted celebrities, high-end professional groups, and wealthy families. The other was invite only and drew elite clientele, most of which I never learned their names or what they did. Watching this brought back so many insane memories from that time. The unwritten rule at both resorts was never to say no to the guest. This management style set the stage for the brutal treatment of staff in many positions and opened the door for guests to get away with practically anything. I worked during numerous bachelor, bachelorette, and "other" parties where I saw unspeakable things. I was approached multiple times to go back to guests' rooms for "fun." I watched employees return so degraded that they were hysterically crying or rage quit on the spot. However, I also meet some amazingly inspirational people and families I still communicate with. Some are staggeringly wealthy, but you wouldn't know it at first glance.
