Celeste: "Quiet and Falling" - Metal Cover | Christian Richardson

I had heard of this game a few months back, but never again until I woke up to Dunkey’s review of it last week. Decided to look up the soundtrack out of interest, and it was absolutely gorgeous. This song stood out to me the most, so I ended up starting up a cover of it. I didn’t exactly realize that this was literally the day the game and soundtrack came out, and so it seems I’m the first person to make a cover from this game (aside from the entire remix album, obviously)! This song really intimidated me at first, since the original song is almost 8 minutes long. I eventually figured out the song structure. The song goes through a section twice, and then a small build up, and then that same section twice again but with a small chord change. Then the whole song repeats with some different layering. To the best of my ability, I tried to transcribe the song to guitars as exact as I could, while adding my own layers of drums, rhythm guitars, a solo, and some vocals. I ended up shortening the second half of the piece, mainly because I didn’t want my cover to be eight minutes. But I still tried to capture all the different, more echoey layers in the second half.
This game looks SOOO cool. I love platformers to death, and the way the player movement works in this looks like a lot of fun. I’ll definitely have to pick it up on Switch very very soon!
I’m super proud of how this all turned out, even the video ended up looking pretty neat! I’m trying to do weekly videos now, and finishing this in a week wasn’t exactly an easy feat. See you all soon!!

this cover made me actually cry. the original is calm. quiet. the more relaxed beginning of the chapter, only getting twisted into its scarier, more meaningful form later. here it is not quiet. its loud. its tragic. its a scream of agony. its an expression of the frustration with this constant struggle of life. even as amazing of a soundtrack as celeste's is extremely lucky to have someone as talented as you making for it.

Regarding the description, this game is fantastic. I don't ever try to 100% anything, but absolutely all of my free time has gone into doing just that with this game. Joseph Xave I have it already ;p Actually, I had to do it twice. Someone on the Celeste Discord told me that you can accidentally dash so long as you die before leaving the screen. I'm thinking it's something more along the lines of dying before your dash resets, but I haven't a clue. I had the most trouble with the coffee jump, of of everything.

The coffee jump is the hardest jump imo. The iceless jump (last hard jump) isn't that difficult as long as you've mastered neutral-wall jumping

I find instrumental metal can somtimes ruin a song by failing to capture the spirit of the original - opting instead to focus purely on simply translating/adding new parts that sound heavy rather feel appropriate. Not so here - your composition and arranging choices are stellar - you dont overplay any of the lines, you really focus in on maintaining the haunting harmony throughout, and you have nailed the movements between quiet textures and heavier, more metal-standard textures. Good fucking show, this is super impressive.

It’s has a “forsaken” feel to it. Like it would be a theme music for someone whos named “the forsaken prince” Someone abandoned by society, but still with great power, loathing in the loneliness, seeking a light, that’s far from faded. He’s calm, reserved and wise, polite at times, but when agitated, erupts in a chaos that scares all away. It’s the theme music for such person, for the forsaken prince. I never liked rock or heavy metal, but art can come in many forms, even in the most, forsaken, places.

I know I say this every few months but I *cannot* get over this song. Something about it gets to me, man. Its been 2 years since the thing came out and while I don't listen to it every week, every time I do I'm just kinda... Blown away?
