Don't forget to playtest 😉 PS: you dont need to type 'testingcheats true' to access your moveobjects, showhiddenobjects and showliveeditobjects cheats ☺️ 'testingcheats true' is only used to access additional cheats that can also be useful when you build. By typing 'testingcheats true', you can Shift + click surfaces and do other fun stuff like teleport your sim, make items dirty/clean, etc. You can read more about cheats here: www.ea.com/en-gb/games/the-sims/cheats

Love your videos! Another tip is to make them gameplay friendly. Unlike real life where you are in the space in Sims you basically view your house as a 3D model. So creating it in a way where there is no objects interrupting your view is important.

Yes this! There's a lot of discourse on builders being obligated to play test or not, but I personally believe that we should if we expect others to use our builds. Might as well make them useful for other players to use. Thanks for sharing 😊

the eleventh position is the one I follow most scrupulously if I want the most realistic house possible. I still don't understand why after so many years both the counters and the kitchen doors are so unrealistically large... even if I make them smaller they don't have a realistic effect

I believe The Sims 4 is meant to be a dollhouse simulator rather than a life simulator like The Sims 3 was. Why EA/Maxis went down this route is beyond me, but it's too late to change it now, I guess. Thanks for the video @paszerine, it was very informative, entertaining and well put together. Cheers, mate.

Important side note at 3:40 . As of a recent base game update (the one that came a few days before the For Rent EP), you can actually CHANGE the windows in the EA apartments (City Living/Eco Lifestyle). You can move them, delete them and add new ones. So you're not as constrained in the apartments anymore, that is if you don't mind your windows mismatching those in the walls below you 😊. Ok back to the video, just wanted to mention it before I forget 😅.

Thank you for not going into the clutter/default thing too much. Lots of houses in the gallery have too much clutter and it drives me crazy. I often find myself removing a lot of it especially if it's placed with move objects because a lot of it clips through walls which makes it really hard to place other items on the wall/floor (like beds or couches) when it doesn't let you place it and when I remove things for that reason before I know it I have an empty room or yard.

This tutorial really helps, I actually have abckground in design but, having difficulty in dreating MY OWN house (I've tried, I made a gunshot style one, once) and I've DL some houses from Gallery; I like the looks of houses from Gallery specially the those in the most popular ones. But I always ended up redoing the interior because for me they were not made both functionality and Sims' moveability. Kudos to those creators because creating your own house is really hard lol!

Hey thank you for this video! Im feeling so inspired after this, I love the way you approach it and deliver the tips. Made me realize how much more there is to design than what we actually see at first. For instance the way lighting changes the mood and in real life fragrances are added to certain places to evoke something. Those things can go unnoticed if you are not really paying attention and make such a difference. Its all in the details it seems. There are certain styles and objects that I found awful but you have managed to compliment them in a way that it makes sense I can see theres a lot of care on how you approach your buildings, almost methodical, you make a mood board to generate new ideas, you make a houseplan etc, truly shines a light on how the creative process work. I am definitely saving this video as I can see myself applying this in other aspects of life as well. I hope this makes sense, I am having a hard time expressing how much joy this video brought me xD it highligthed and reminded me how learning is amazing and interesting, Thank you again :>

Oh, I forgot to mention that there is free graph paper online that is pretty easy to use. I think it's called virtual graph paper. Google will find it. You don't have to make an account or anything. I use it to plan out my Sandrock houses because I find it much easier to visualize where I'm going with it and Sandrock is much more limited than the Sims because building a house isn't the focus. You may have mentioned the virtual graph site in your videos, this is the first one YT has thrown at me. Anyway, thanks again.

Wow, thank you! ☺Just found this video and subscribed immediatelly. I'm a bit rusty since I haven't played in a while (work...). I gotta watch these videos for new tips&tricks coz you can never have enough of those. Floor plans can ruin me sometimes but the most difficult for me is the roof plan. I can litterally spend 2h only on the roof and end up crying coz I still can't figure it out lol. The floor plan is mostly difficult when I wanna build a small house and the stairs are litterally killing me😅
@paszerine
@paszerine Жыл бұрын
Glad you found this video helpful 🥰 oh yeah, roofs are the worst 😅 I miss the auto-roof tool from the previous games. My advice as someone who also finds roofing challenging is to keep the shape of your home simple. I'm not saying just stick with a box but linear shapes make it easier to do roofing. My first tip applies here and you can always browse online for the types of roofs and experiment a bit ☺️ you can also use platforms as roofs if you have a modern build. Hope this helps!

Paszerine re: (Pinned comment) ‘Don’t forget to playtest.’ - We don’t sketch out builds beforehand (02:11), but generally always playtest, because never know what’s going to be a little fiddly. For example, paused while filming the ‘Christmas Gifts’ episode to playtest the Santa sleigh, to see if the Sims could actually climb up to the sleigh seat. Anything with platforms, in particular, usually have to test it out just in case. So, pragmatic advice. Nice episode.

I always forget about gallery art... regarding learning from others, I used to watch a lot of simmer but in the end, I felt bad since I couldn't build as good as them, I always compared myself to them and it made me quit the game for a while. Just don't forget that you need to build for your own style and uses in the game!

I have a problem. I don't like making builds in modern style. I like cottage style, farm, or shaby, almost falling apart buildings. But I never see any tutorials for that. I want to give my teen sims their own room style reflected by their personalities, but they usually never match the rest of the house :cc

No worries ☺️ I made this list in hopes that it could cater to all styles no matter how unique or eccentric, so the tips can still help you. Sometimes it's just a matter of perspective and seeing what works. And dont worry. My bedrooms especially for my teens and kids dont always match with the rest of the house either 🤭 the bedrooms are the part of the house where your sims individual personalities can shine the most

Other tips I've already learned: 1- Learning to build and decorate is not instantaneous, so don't feel frustrated if you can't do something incredible the first few times. 2- An interesting way to practice is to look for shells in the gallery. Shells are constructions that generally only have predefined walls, sometimes with doors and windows. 3- Building and decorating take time. It can take you 30 minutes, a few hours or even days to complete a build. The important thing is that you don't wear yourself out too much because you'll end up finding the whole process very boring and you'll give up.

its actually more fun and realistic to add different colors and types of wood in one build. most ppl, including me, have different types of wood for beds, desks, chairs etc. a way to harmonize it would be to use a set of matching wood objects (ie. same wood for tables, chairs or shelves) and contrast them with a differing wood parquet or bedframe or closet. also it looks better if the types of wood are in higher contrast, ie. one lighter and one darker, rather than trying to match them all. i think the color rule mentioned in the video is pretty important, since having a specific accent colour spread across the room can unify it. also, if youre working with a specific style or region, researching the types of trees that grow there/are most often used for flooring and furniture really helps add to the vibe.

You don’t need testing cheats for build cheats! (Saying this misinforms & confuses the community) Thanks for the other great build tips. 🙂
