Hello Scott Manley! Thanks you very much for this video review. We are watched your KZbin channel a lot and we are really glad that you like the game! We will clarify a bit about why we are recommending aerodynamic mode. It is only temporary during Early Access because orbital mode have more bugs and it is hard to create a decent game goals for an orbital mode.But once we will complete the game, we will remove this recommendation from the game and both games modes will be equivalent. What about "better and bigger', yeah, the next update will be huge, we are going to add a galaxy map and a lot of another nice things in the future updates. We will be glad if you will decide to revisit the game when a lot new cool stuff will be implemented : ) Thanks again!

I have my opinions on this game, never expected to share it with the devs. This space game lets you build your own ships, and it has orbital mechanics in it. Definitely has potential, but just mining and simple combat isn't all that exciting. Maybe there's a direction you'd like to take this game, but it wasn't mentioned on Steam so I can't know about it, but there should definitely be more depth, something different than the usual sandbox stuff, gameplay other than just minimg and pew-pew. If you'd like to know what I think could be such things, here are some: -the combat being deeply tactical, with the custom ships alowing many possible strategies -the combat being skill-based, building a ship that fits your playstyle -competitive multiplayer with build orders and etc. -an end-goal, like having to face a boss at some point -fast-paced multiplayer deathmatch I'm sure you can have better ideas, these are just for inspiration. There's so much unexplored territory, while things like sandbox space games, ww2 fps games, zombie survival games etc. start to get stale.

The way I always figured it in space games with mining lasers is that they use the same gravity technology that's used for walking around inside the ships. You just aim a cone of gravity at the asteroid, then fire a laser at it. The laser ablates the surface, which creates thrust that pushes back against the gravity to balance the forces, and the gravity cone then sucks in the bits.

Instead of lasers, you could use huge concave mirrors to melt the asteroid with sunlight. And then you could just suck it in with a straw made of ... something. Although now that I think of it, you can't really suck anything in, in space.

I'd wholeheartedly tell you to get it. It's by no means complete, it's got a wide berth for expansion, but if what you're looking is for a simple game that lets you toy with orbital mechanics and have a general lot of non-ambitious fun with it, certainly this one will keep you entertained. Devs are pretty active aswell (heh, no need to tell you that, you already got them to answer you ;)) and updates come out regular. I think space mining would involve a kind of pressurized, inflatable air lock with a set of claws to hold and guide the asteroid. As for the actual removal of material, Id go for a grinder head and a set of vacuum pumps to suck up the material. Guesswork ofc but one can dream.
@beaconofwierd18836 жыл бұрын
Never actually considered lasers as a real mining tool, always just thought they were a cheap gimik to simplify resource collection in a game. But assuming you have a powerful laser (which in practice you always have in space by just putting up a mirror and focusing the reflected light) you could drill a hole into the asteroid by just melting and evaporating the rock using the laser, once you have a sufficiently deep hole it will act as a nozzle and the ore inside the whole being hit by the laser will evaporate and shoot out the nozzle/hole directed towards your spacecraft and you can just "scoop it up" by letting the hod gassed hit something cool and solidify. Maybe you could even have a blob of pure water to catch it, great cooling liquid, easy to come by and super simple to get the material out of the water compared to getting it out from some solid "scooper" :)
@TeMPOraL_PL6 жыл бұрын
Mining with light is actually a feasible idea; current proposals for mining small asteroids involve a grab&bag operation, and *then* using focused light to evaporate material, that then gets scooped out of the bag.

More nuke videos? YAY. I thought that series was done. Also, my guess at how the mining laser works: Laser converts matter to plasma which can be controlled by electromagnets and drawn into the ship. :P Also ... umm ... fusion engines and you have to use solar panels still? I'm confused.
@allekatrase37516 жыл бұрын
I haven't played the game, but current fusion uses a lot of energy to start the reaction and it's possible they set up the engine in such a way that all the reaction products are used as propellant and vented out the nozzle along with the hydrogen used as propellant and none of it is siphoned off for energy generation. You have to run things through different systems to generate power than you would to just create thrust. Just a possible explanation without looking at the game.

Casual game. Sun is size of a planet, distances are tiny, exaggerated mass... Pocket-size solar system.
@CelestialCommand6 жыл бұрын
Hello. The game is not casual, on the contrary, we are focusing on the development of deep and hardcore game mechanics. Size of planets is not the only parameter which distinguishes hardcore game from the casual game. We just don't have a goal to create full size planets like in KSP. There is a lot of additional features such as physics, ship buildings, energy system, inventory, production etc. And it is quite hardcore features.
@TheVRSofa6 жыл бұрын
That's damn interesting. I'd say I might actually try and do this on my own channel. How does it run compared to ksp? :)

The space ships and planets are comically large. Or rather, the distances are comically small. Like, you have completely different orbits, but your close approach is like 5 of your space ships in length and you can trivially brute force any encounter.

Mining with lasers does actually make sense in space - if you were to use a shovel in effectively zero gravity on an asteroid, you'd just push yourself back off into space. Shovels, drills, and so forth take a decent amount of force to dig in. On Earth, gravity provides the force to cancel out the equal and opposite reaction. In space in a zero-G environment... Power consumption for a laser is pretty high, but it shouldn't be a real problem if you have a fusion reactor onboard. Small asteroids, at least the ones we've sent probes to, seem to be basically heaps of loose rubble, and given that they tend to be iron rich, maybe you could do something involving magnets? Icy asteroids are trickier. No tricks involving magnets here! Does anyone know the albedo of ice in the infrared part of the spectrum? In for visible light lasers, you have a problem since most of the light is just reflected off, when it needs to be absorbed to melt the ice. On the other hand, ice has a far lower melting point than rock. Though... if spacecraft end up with enough delta-V to fly around without worrying much about it, getting off the Earth shouldn't take vast amounts of fuel, so why not just get water out of the ocean?
@CelestialCommand6 жыл бұрын
Hello. You are completely right. Mining lasers is not realistic, it is just a useful game-play simplification which is often used in many others space games. But we are going to add a mining stations which will be equipped with some more realistic machinery for mining. What about planets, yes, we are thinking about implementation of resource gathering from planets. Thanks.
