I've got the greenback on its way to me. Going to replace the V-Type speaker in my SV112 cab with the Greenback. I'll also have the 10" V-Type speaker in my SV20C combo. I'm hoping the two will complement each other. Any thoughts?

Yes, it should work well.

The answer is to load a 2x12 cabinet with one of each. They would seem to complement each other.

I'm using a 10" V-Type and a 12" Greenback in combination. Indeed they do compliment one another very nicely.

I actually like the V-type as a pairing speaker because its fairly flat response fills out a greenback or a creamback or an alnico or whatever you put next to it, but that also makes it a good 1x12 choice because it doesn't have much color so your amp, guitar and pedals come through more than your speaker does. But man, what a chirpy pick! Let me guess, you've landed on something pointy because you like to side pick, something like a jazz 3 or a flow or a triangle, and you've realized the point wears off too quickly so you've gone with thicker and thicker picks, but now you have chirp problems even though you can play faster. Maybe you haven't noticed the chirp. Well the struggle is real, otherwise I couldn't speak on it. Right now my studio plexi has a v-type in bottom and an M creamback in top. Try it IF YOU DARE.

@@CraigFlowersMusic My longterm goal is a 1987x with a cab that's half Greenbacks and half Creambacks ever since I put a Creamback in my DSL401 and discovered the amp could actually sound incredible (G12T100 before). Since I can't afford that at the moment I got an Origin 20 W combo and it comes with a V-Type, 10 inch though, so I'm thinking I might build or get a cheap 1×12 cab and put the Creamback in there and use both for a nice little 1x12+1×10 stack :) I might still put in a Creamback or a Greenback but I don't have any 10 inch speaker lying around so this might get me a really nice sound in the meantime. I agree the V-type sounds quite nice. I was shocked the new mini Plexi SV20 comes with V-type cabs rather than Greenbacks but it does sound good and the higher wattage makes a more sensible pairing with a Creamback. Pairing a 25W and 65W speaker seemed a little bit silly but I've heard people do it and you can't argue with the tone.

@@CraigFlowersMusic BTW stubby triangle FTW. 1€ per pick, lasts forever, great feel, something big to hold and 3 usable side, first of all triple the pick for the price but also sometimes you slip a little and need to reorient the pick, with the 3 sided you're always good. And that way it wears even slower. Totally fell in love. And I always struggled with thin and small picks but I was told it's better. Finally gave up and went back to stubbys and now triangles and they are fantastic. Last so long. I pick hard and attempt shredding but it barely wears at all.

@@CraigFlowersMusic Ah cool, thanks for the tip but I think it might be cheaper in the US, I can find it for 70€ and that's pretty close to a used Celestion. Eminence too, people always say how cheap they are but on this sode of the pond they end up being maybe 80% of a Celestion and much harder to find. Plus I think they increased prices.

Thanks for great comparison! Could you provide more information about the signal chain and microphone setup for that recording? Additionally, I’d love to know which cabinet you used. This would help in understanding how the specific tone was achieved.

I wanted an Origin 50C to put my Creamback in but I found an Origin 20C way cheaper but the 10 inch speaker had me worried since I don't have one and they are harder to find used but it's a V-Type, seems to sound nice enough no need to chuck it immediately. That Midnight 60 in the 50C sounded kinda meh... And they do use it in the insanely expensive Studio Vintage cab so it can't be that bad. Why they didn't put Greenback in that will keep baffling me though. 550 vs 350 for SV20 cab vs Origin 212... such a mess. Every model has a different speaker. Definetly think the Origin cab looks the part and neither come with Greenbacks anyway... oh well I'm too broke for head and cab so combo it is

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't know if the build quality of the cabinet can make that much of a difference. Surely 50% of the sound of an amplifier is given by the speaker. If I were you I would invest in a quality speaker, even if you mount it in a cheaper cabinet.
@221b-l3tАй бұрын
@GuitarGateway According to Jim Lill's experiments the shape makes some difference but the build or material absolutely none. It's an interesting video, check it out. But yeah it's mostly the speaker and open vs closed back makes a difference. But stuff like press board vs pine absolutely none, he got the same sound using cardboard cabinets matching the shapes and sizes. There's quite a variety in thay.
