Rare diseases are so difficult to treat One granddaughter of ours has a rare disease and most specialists do not know how to treat it. All one can do is live with it, take whatever treatment is available, and maintain hope that it can get better.

I have four rare diseases, have passed on two (erythromelalgia and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) to my daughter who has passed on both to her oldest daughter. I left a major midwest city to move to northern Minnesota for my health, and the results have been good. But finding medical care for my rarities has been a nightmare up here, so all I do is try to maintain my pain as best I can and hope for early release from this awful life.

Oh, my heart! I have loved her ever since I was little, growing up hearing my aunts play her music. Then I got her Falling Into You album for my 8th Christmas, and there was no turning back. She is my ultimate favorite singer, hands down. I even saw her, René, and little "RC" walk by with their security crew just 2 feet from me at Disneyland one year... Well, now she really is “1 in a Million!!” This diagnosis is EXTREMELY rare and often it can be a diagnosis of exclusion, like Fibromyalgia. There can be a lot of associated symptoms that overlap with so many other conditions. Lacking hard evidence of the actual autoimmune markers can still allow people to be given this diagnosis. Whatever the case this may be, I hope her other personal struggles are addressed and effectively treated.

Yes. It’s a diagnosable disease (most patients have anti-GAD antibodies). It’s debilitating and degenerative. Their muscles can stiffen to the point of breaking bones. Being startled can literally send them to the hospital (not a joke or exaggeration). My sister died from this. You have never heard of it because it is EXTREMELY rare. Be grateful you know nothing of this disease.
