Celine has always wanted to sing with John Farnham because that’s the song that she used for warming up her voice before shows. That was an amazing performance. Check out celine on her own at Hyde park 5th July 2019 singing your the voice

It tears me up to see the respect with which she treats him.. so richly deserved, but often missing when people talk of John Farnham. I think that having grown up with him at his peak, we just take him for granted. It’s good to be reminded of how lucky we are to have such a bloke and such a song as part of our identity.

ReeceAUS can confirm, it’s one of the more technically difficult songs to sing- it’s extremely hard to belt at that high a range, and it also has low notes too. The song covers a massive range of notes, and expects you to sing them with perfect power, control and consistency. I’m an alto, and while I can certainly hit all of the notes, those high notes are right on the limit of what I can belt with chest voice. It’s really, really difficult. Sopranos like Celine can belt those notes, but you can hear she has trouble maintaining that consistency and power on the lower notes. The fact that he can do it, as a make, and at 70, is just astonishing. And you see how far away he holds his mic? If he didn’t, he’d blow it out, and you’d certainly never hear her voice in the mix at all- he just overpowers everyone else. He’s got the biggest voice I’ve ever heard from a pop or rock singer. The only other singers with that sort of power and consistency are opera singers, and they do it with a wildly different technique. He really does deserve a hell of a lot more credit than he gets. He’s probably the best singer Australia has ever had.
