He was probably lying about some things, like the cat, and "Fuck You" being his morning meditation song, because the point of the game is to throw off James from guessing that it was you. You wouldn't have a dead cat still wearing a collar in a dissection class. Frogs are usually dissected in science class. If you're training to be a veterinarian, you might dissect or practice a surgical procedure on a cat's corpse. Besides, hairless cats weren't popular until the last few years, and I don't imagine Dr. Phil would've taken any of those courses 40 years ago, when he got his degree in 1976. Besides, he got his PhD in clinical psychology, not medicine.
