After Apple refused to help Leonardo Fabbretti unlock his son's iPhone after his death, Cellebrite was able to access the data on the phone and is now trying to unlock it.

I wish congress would do something to prevent Apple's "misbehavior". After my son's murder, I wanted to use his iphone and his apple watch. I sent Apple his death certificate and also the court papers appointing me as the administrator of his estate. They insisted on my getting a court order from the court that probated his estate. That required an attorney to write the motion for the judge - costing me $840. That is totally like stealing or like a ransom. Imagine if you purchase an iphone and a week later he dies. You are still paying for the phone - and you will until it's paid for - but you can't use it. How can that happen?

It's not "misbehavior" by Apple. If it's easy for law enforcement to open an iPhone, it's also easy for a thief to open it.

It's not just apple that denies access to phones of deceased loved ones. I am trying to help my cousin get access to his deceased wife's phone which is locked. She has photos of their son who had passed away in 2016. I am not getting any help from verizon or motorola and am looking for a company that is a third party to help us..

@@razorback9926 This is a non-sensical remark! It was super simple for Apple to furnish the Apple ID after I paid the $840. I had the information I needed the day after they received the subpoena.

Kay Zoretic Apple did nothing wrong. An Apple ID is not secret, only the password is. If your son didn’t share his password, I don’t see why you blame Apple. It happens to all of us. My brother died and left his estate to me. I never was able to open his iPhone.
