any reason you can think of as to why this is not usually a recomended component of a blowout kit? it seems much more useful than a quick clot sponge if some one were shot in the torso.

Could you do a video comparing this to Q-clot, pro/cons of each, and when to use Cel-lox vs Q-clot. I hear the burning issue with Q-clot was so sever, it is only recommended in extreme circumstances, and EMTs protocol on routine calls is only to use when 2 minutes out from the hospital.

Has the problem with the delivery method by granules later causing a pulmonary embolism been solved? I've heard this was a problem with the early use of Quick-clot granules and one of the reasons for the development of the gauze and sponge products.
@tk14695 жыл бұрын
This may be a stupid question, but why not put an unvented chest seal on the wound after applying the granules? That way the granules would be left to do their work inside the body instead of being absorbed by a bandage.

We're being taught in my medic class, that under PHTLS and TCCC hemostatic powder is not to be used it has been associated with causing thermal burns on patients (I.e. quick clot powder). Studies have also shown that using hemostatic powder can result in strokes and pulmonary embolism. TCCC recommends using direct pressure and then if need be using limb tourniquets and wound packing with combat gauze in places where bleeding is taking place that a tourniquet can not stop bleeding (i.e. Groin and axillary regions).
@simonsundy5182 жыл бұрын
Celox does not produce heat unlike the earlier generations of quikclot. Burns are not an issue with celox. Strokes are also not a concern with celox because it does not activate the body's natural clotting cascade. The chitosan that makes up celox, mixes with the blood to form a pseudo clot directly at the source of bleeding.

The only thing I could say against would be its mass. If you had a large hole then it would be multiple syringes to do what the sponge or gauze roll could do.
@miltechmoto6 жыл бұрын
SkinnyMedic you could refill it though with more powder in the bag form. Might be messy but it's only one time use for one situation and patient. Not for refill and plunge some more into the wound.

SkinnyMedic hey skinny ! I know this is an old video but I’m making my own pocket edc ifak. regarding your comment about needing multiple syringes for larger wounds, I’d like to carry only one of these plungers + celox rapid ribbon zfold in a pocket & h&h chest seal & cat -t. If the one plunger is not enough to stop the bleeding of a larger wound s after being applied, would it be okay to then try to use the ribbon after, if the plunger is not sufficient enough? Has that been done ? Plunger first then pack ?(only if needed) remember I’m just a civilian carrying limited supplies

@BlackHawk20298 жыл бұрын
Opal Preston Shirley It's not as bad as it used to be. but if it's between quik-clot and bleeding out, do you really care if it burns?

If I had to choose between a standard gauze or this item to treat a serious bleed from a knife or gunshot wound, before applying pressure and dressings, which would you recommend?
@mrdark99166 жыл бұрын
It depends on the size of the entry of the wound. If a wound is narrow but deep, you cant physically pack gauze deep enough to stop the bleed at the artery. That is the type of wound this is meant for. If it is a wider wound that you can pack hemostatic gauze into, then do that. I carry both personally

I have heard that a heavy bleeding gunshot would to the torso could not be helped by a pad on the outside because the main bleeding blood vesicle would be too deep. is this not true?

I was wondering how the ER doc would handle a wound with all the stuff crammed in there. Yeah, you're still alive, but the repercussions could have been nasty. But you answered my question. So the product will get broken down and absorbed. Great stuff. How about an allergies? You covered the latex, but could there be others that we'd need to be aware of? No disrespect, just trying to learn. JMHO BTW Tasty looking chicken. Need a recipe?

Just be aware any hemostatic agent can cause Possible blood clots, thus leaving the possibility of strokes, PE, and MI’s. But if they’re bleeding significantly I’d honestly wouldn’t hesitate to use it. I wish we carried these on our trucks.

I was going to ask the same thing. SM (or anyone), do you know is this possible, can these granules cause somekind of blockage to your lungs, brains, etc. I mean that they are designed to clotting the blood. Is there something that prevents small clots caused by these kind of products to enter to you blood stream and cause problems? Have you heard that there would have been these cases?

Does Celox or Quck-Clot have to be removed from the would prior to closing the wound?
@SkinnyMedic10 жыл бұрын
cwes41 Both need to be removed, however Celox will break down into a simple sugar if left in.
@pcgamer010610 жыл бұрын
Any form of hemostatic device like QC and Celox need to be removed from a wound channel, or you'll run the risk of circulatory system complications, etc.

Couldn't find anything on the net and called poison control and she was gtg. It will save u the $65 they charged my cc to find out so now ya know.

Hey brother, I'm making an IFAK and don't know if I want cellox like this, the gauze, or quickclot gauze or sponge it's all making my head spin. I've added regular old compressed gauze and used to have a quick clot sponge (or gauze) but it walked away. I like that this can break down but I heard quick clot has improved its formula and isn't the danger it used to be when it got red hot so I wonder how many people saying quick clot is bad, are holding on to that old knowledge. Anyone qualified can chime in please. I'm thinking celox but, it's pricey and I am adding chest seals now so, I don't want to spend to much if I don't need to. Personally I like the idea of the newer quick clot and think it works fine but celox seems to get more praise so, I'm stuck.

I know in an emergency I would be willing to pay 10 times the cost of the Celox if one would magically appear but would a tampon be an ok substitute since they appear to be roughly the same diameter or is the Celox something that can be left in while the wound heals? Either way I need to pick one up..just wish it had a longer shelf life for the cost.

If unable to stop the wounded victims bleeding, the applicator can double as a spice injector. Fill applicator with chopped onion, garlic, and maybe.... parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. Insert length ways into the middle of a juicy pork roast and push plunger while slowly removing applicator. Center of roast will be filled with spices, seasoning the meat from the inside as it slowly rotates over an open fire. Mmmmm.... Serve medium rare to the wounded victim as their last meal.
