I just want to say that 7 years after these were posted i am watching and learning alot. I must say your personality makes these videos a delight. I find myself laughing quite often at some of your comments hahaha.

What a lovey thing to say, Burnsnskii, thanks. ;-) I've always believed that humour makes learning a lot easier and I incorporate it into my classes as much as I can. If you like the surreal aspect of it, try the Freehand Spacefilling Patterns playlist and particularly the last one of the Calligraphy playlist (47, I think) where I'd certainly got the 'end of term' feeling.

I’m binge-watching this series of videos, and this is my favorite design so far. I’ve never been able to draw much of anything, but I’m suddenly drawing Celtic designs. Having the grid and circles makes drawing much less intimidating. Thank you so much!

Hi David! I drew this for my mom right after you posted the video two years ago. Great instructions. I ran into more health issues (trigger fingers + the regular spinal cord issues) before I could finish the drawing with colored pencils and water colors...and do a celtic border. That's what I'm working on now. I love your videos, David. You and Dearing Wang certainly inspire me to get drawing again. :) I hope this finds you well and you continue to enjoy, and share, your creativity. Blessings, and Happy New Year!

I'm a mixed medium artist. I work in paint, clay, glass, fabric, plaster, metal. . . . . Pretty much anything I can get my hands onto gets incorporated into something. I love your videos and others like them. We are all creatures of out experiences and every encounter changes us. It works the same way with art. Everything we see and learn gets crammed in our head and changes the stuff that's already there. Our brain mashes and mixes and lord knows what will come flowing out?! Now where did I put that acetylene torch?

@davidnicholls10010 жыл бұрын
Yes, I live by the sea in Brighton UK. They are what are known as seagulls (herring gulls to be precise). They are a pain in the arse! They are aggressive, noisy and keep us awake at night. Someone living opposite told us that she counted over 1000 of them on our roof one day! (Don't get me started!)
@tammysquire92756 жыл бұрын
Down here in Plymouth they're called Shite Hawks, I feel your pain, quite literally! One flew in my window once years ago and stole my son's dinner while he was in his high chair, they've got some front on 'em aye!

Absolutely terrible explanation. You did this with no measurements. But that's the problem. The circles cannot be hand drawn, or at least give us a size. If circles are hand drawn, you will mess up the lines as they won't connect because the circles are not uniform. You will also later mess up the hearts. Also doing this with only 1 pencil is terrible idea. Unless you have a pencil like in the video. But a normal one is not good as you need 2 to draw the square lines and another for the whole thing. Also you should have said to draw the square lightly as if it's drawn strongly it removed the whole effect. The pattern is great, but this was a terrible tutorial.
