As a primary school kid in the early 70s, I'll always fondly remember Danny McGrain as one of the two truly world class players Celtic and Scotland had at the time, along with Kenny Dalglish. He doesn't get the credit Kenny got form his exploits with Liverpool, but as a one-club player, he'll always be remembered by fans of my generation as one of the players who made us love the game of football.

My favourite Celtic player ever

In my view Danny was second only to Dalglish as the greatest Celt I ever saw play in the flesh, and I cannot recal another full back from a British club that was his equal. Together with Sandy Jardine, he formed the greatest full back partnership for Scotland in living memory. To describe him as merely' a talented full back' does not do him justice.

100% agree with everything you said. To think both he and Kenny were Rangers fans growing up and their own Club overlooked them just makes them even greater Celtic men in my opinion. Especially Danny who has continued to work at the Club long after he hung up his boots. Fantastic human being, player and club servant. Dalglish was my hero as a kid growing up ( I played up front ) but Danny was always a close second even though he was a defender. Albeit an overlapping great of a defender.

Im happy to say I saw Danny play the amount of setbacks he had the broken skull the diabetes and the ankle injury took away 4 good years of his career it would have been special if dannybhoy he managed 1 more season our centenary year if Danny could have managed another year but we all have memories of him at the time I'd say he was the best right_ back in the world in also happy he's at Celtic park in a coaching capacity if you want to learn from anybody you only want 1 of the best & Danny McGrain was just that he's also a gentleman & a hero of mine since I was a bhoy our beard of knowledge deserves a humongous hail hail

I cant believe there is almost no footage of Danny McGrain on youtube or that Celtic haven't brought out a DVD showing how good a player Danny was. He is the best right back I`ve ever seen, could defend and attack equally well which is very rare, even the best ever right backs were better in one aspect than the other. Cafu was great going forward and decent-good defending... Thuram was good defensively but not the best in attack... McGrain was the best.... get it done Celtic, get a DVD made similar to the `Jinky` one and show todays fans how great Danny was.

Ally Ross not 2 mentioned fractured skull & ankle injury took him away for 2 year at the time even the drs said he'd be lucky to play again its testimony to how brave he was better men would've chucked in the towel AHH but not our Danny he came back he might have lost a yard in pace but with a football brain like he had more than made up for it a legend at our beloved club & rightly so the best thing that ever happened was whoever put " Fergus" in his name deserves a monument ours hail hail as the huns mistook Danny's family as Catholic oh how sick they must've been when he told them he was a prod they're lose was very much our gain Danny has a special place in every Celtic supporters heart hh

Not a pretend badge kisser, a proper world class, club legend. Guys like Danny and the Maestro are Celtic legends for all time. Unfortunately our KT didn't fancy becoming a legend, and instead has gone for the money in the EPL. I personally think he'll regret that for the rest of his life. Hope I'm wrong!

Some of the Celtic sides Danny played in would wipe the floor wi Anges side, would teach them a thing or 2 about playing the Celtic way. Would run over the top of them.

I know it was good for Celtic, but I am still amazed non of the English giants came in for him.
