This song was written by Chris DeBurgh in 1975. Lisa Lambe does perfect justice to DeBurgh's wonderful song. Lisa's talents come clear in this rendition .Her beauty,voice and acting stand out in a beautiful performance. Theme or basis of song,from Wikipedia.... "The song is a narrative of a UFO religion tale ,is a retelling of how the angel Gabriel came to give a message to the shepherds, but with a spaceship and a spaceman instead. De Burgh seems to make a prophecy of the Second Coming in this song: "The stranger returned and said 'now I must fly. When two thousand years of your time has gone by. This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry..." The baby represents the purity with which the Christ will be returning." Compelling version.Thank you Lisa Lambe

LYRICS A spaceman came travelling on his ship from afar, 'Twas light years of time since his mission did start, And over a village he halted his craft, And it hung in the sky like a star, just like a star He followed a light and came down to a shed, Where a mother and child were lying there on a bed, A bright light of silver shone round his head, And he had the face of an angel, and they were afraid Then the stranger spoke, he said "Do not fear, I come from a planet a long way from here, And I bring a message for mankind to hear, " And suddenly the sweetest music filled the air And it went La La Peace and goodwill to all men, and love for the child This lovely music went trembling through the ground, And many were wakened on hearing that sound, And travellers on the road, the village they found, By the light of that ship in the sky, which shone all round And just before dawn at the paling of the sky, The stranger returned and said "Now I must fly, When two thousand years of your time has gone by, This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry" And it went La La This song will begin once again To a baby's cry And it goes La La Peace and goodwill to all men, and Love for the child

A deity gives up all their comforts and privilege of heaven, to come down here and endure torture and a grisly death to try to teach us not to be selfish, greedy, shallow and materialistic. Just because they're dancing doesn't mean they're not doing it live. You can train your voice not to bounce. Like, I'm not a singer but I did marching band and by that logic we wouldn't have been able to march and play at the same time because you'd hear our air bouncing when we moved. You simply train yourself to move smoothly and control your air. It's not an impossible thing.

She's not opening her mouth wide enough to the words, it's totally obvious. I'm an opera singer and have trained with trainers from Europe for 10 years and have done many competitions and I still stumble even just by walking. You can train but honestly it's never usually a success.
@sarahcoleman2244
@sarahcoleman2244 7 жыл бұрын
HelloKatie X2 Opera training is far different from this. As with the person who wrote the original comment . I too was in marching band. I am also a vocalist myself. In my experience playing a wind instrument is barely different from singing. My teaching is not classical and I can not only walk but do some choreography while singing and do so well. Please do not assume extreme classical training applies to all vocal and performance styles. It doesn't.

This performance of the song is THE VERY opposite of what the song is trying to tell people! Ego, hedonism and pleasure VS sacrifice, service and forgiveness. If one wanted to do a ridiculing parody of the message in the song they couldn't have done a better job! All you have described that you have seen is the glitz and glamour - the very opposite of the song. It couldn't be more ill-fitting and in such bad taste.

@@Sionnach1601 I see no hedonism here. And an expression of pleasure would not be inappropriate since, to Christians, the birth of Jesus was a joyous-and dare I say- pleasure inducing event for later people. The elaborate choreography can easily be understood as a type of liturgical dance as well. (a physical interpretation of the spoken message) The performance exudes a sense of happiness and energy. Think of it this way.... if something really wonderful happened to you, would you want your loved ones to be all somber and aloof, or would you want them to be rejoicing with you ?

+Merlina Addams Is this the front vocalist? Well, she may be, in some people's eyes, but as a performer she's way off in misreading the tone of this song while she and the gals are dancing to Mambo No. 5 :)

+Sionnach1601 Sounds like some serious hating on your part. She did a great job on this song. Dance, sing upon the lord. I believe her version has opened the song up to many who would have never listened to the original. You do realize you are suppose to rejoice unto the lord and not be a depressed stick in the mud? Some of the denominations have twisted it into being very low energy.

0:28 I love this song. I honestly do. But the inner nerd inside me can't help but scream, "A LIGHT YEAR IS A MEASURE OF DISTANCE, NOT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" That's like saying "twas inches of time since his mission did start". Oh well. It's still amazing.
@CAShton124

It's both, the definition of a light year is the distance travelled by light in one year! So yes, it has time in it, a year!!!!!

Peppermint has it correct. A light year is a measure of distance => how far does light travel in one year.

Because time travels at the speed of light what you see a a few light years away is actually happening right now. Space-Time is a continuum. Ask Einstein. Physics is mind-boggling. Richard Feynman said that a Positron is an Electron going backwards in time.

It's impressive enough to me that she makes her arm-twirls look so graceful (I totally feel like I look like a loon imitating them at home even if no one can see me). But I still, no matter how many times I watch this vid, can't get over how she literally bounces down those short slippy-looking steps in high heels and a pouffy dress without even looking and not only doesn't slip but doesn't fall and break an ankle. I have, no lie, fallen down stairs that I *could* (mostly) see and broken my ankle -- and I wasn't even wearing heels! : o

An interesting fact that if a spaceman really did come travelling and travelled close to the speed of light because of time dilation Travelling at 99.99999 percent of the speed of light, for a year, more than 2000 years would pass on earth. So for the traveller they would have only aged about a year while 2000 years would have passed on earth

@@redknight9740 No, time dilation and other predictions of special and general relativity has been experimentally verified. In fact all of the special relativity can be derived from the assumption that speed of light is the same for all observers (and that assumption has also been verified to very high precision).

yes that is rather unbelievable, i am wondering if they have dubbed a studio recording of her vocal on afterwards for this video, i would not have expected this pristine sound quality from that little stick mic, no handling noise, hair flicking against the mic, and i think a touch of autotune has been employed post production also.

A spaceman came travelling on his ship from afar, 'Twas light years of time since his mission did start, And over a village he halted his craft, And it hung in the sky like a star, just like a star He followed a light and came down to a shed, Where a mother and child were lying there on a bed, A bright light of silver shone round his head, And he had the face of an angel, and they were afraid Then the stranger spoke, he said "Do not fear, I come from a planet a long way from here, And I bring a message for mankind to hear, " And suddenly the sweetest music filled the air And it went La La Peace and goodwill to all men, and love for the child This lovely music went trembling through the ground, And many were wakened on hearing that sound, And travellers on the road, the village they found, By the light of that ship in the sky, which shone all round And just before dawn at the paling of the sky, The stranger returned and said "Now I must fly, When two thousand years of your time has gone by, This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry" And it went La La This song will begin once again To a baby's cry And it goes La La Peace and goodwill to all men, and Love for the child Oh the whole world is waiting, waiting to hear the song again, There are thousands standing on the edge of the world, And a star is moving somewhere, the time is nearly here, This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry

I just would like to say that even though this song is not based on Doctor Who, as a fan of the music and a huge fan of the show their are a few ideas that span across both. Allow us whovians a chance to breathe, to image that our space man descends on the earth in his blue box. After all these are stories both whether one is true or not let the music take you into your own world, whether it be Gallifrey or the earth it doesn't matter your head your beliefs!
