Cement Mixer: What is "slump"?

I drive a cement mixer in Washington State. This concrete delivery uses a concrete pump truck to pour a new foundation. In this video I'll explain how to measure the consistency of concrete. Slump is the way we measure how wet, or dry, the load is in the cement mixer.

Slump is the lie the customers say they want because they're going to try to pump a 3 then get mad when it doesn't pump or they're going to add 20 gallons to the 5 they ordered anyway 😂

Right? Order a 5 put in 40+ gallons then spend over an hour unloading you while constantly using your water hose... Then get pissed when you cut them off... Got to love it.

I'm new but yeah, ticket says one thing about the slump, but once u get there, they always have u add water. When I wash in, I don't care how much water goes into the drum bc I know it will dry out a little bit and the customer will almost always want it wetter

But you also have to take the temperature into consideration. I rather get the dirt moist and pour a 3 in slabs with up to 80 degree temperature, which gives me a stronger slab. That’s also New Jersey, not Arizona. In Arizona I poured slab of 7 and I saw the men rush. In New Jersey, even in the summer a 5 was a great slump. But if it rained the day before and temperatures around 70, I would ask for a 3. In using a phone to write that and I can barely read what I wrote, hopefully I didn’t confuse anyone.

@@bryceweaver01 nice. I had a buddy quit mixers and switched to dump trucks. But he quit that like a month later and came back lol. He said it's rough because in a dump truck there's no break from driving, it's go go go all day. My company has both auto and manual, it's just luck that I ended up with a manual.
