Improve this by adding polyester or hemp reinforcement fibers to the concrete mix, keep the concrete mix as dry as possible, and manually tamp and compress the concrete in to the mold like you would with a rammed earth wall. You should get bricks with compressive strength in excess of 4000psi.

It is good to paint the wood with mineral oil a few times before first use, and then after a few uses. It keeps the cement from sticking.

It will make it super hard to put plaster on oiled surface inside the building though. Oil will not allow the plaster to stick to it, which won't allow putty to be applied. One would have to clean the wall off the oil, which is rather hard and expensive, sadly. If you don't remove oil layer from the bricks, you may face the situation when the plaster and putty crack or outright fall off due to their inability to connect to the brick surface. : /

@@judgemondgeboren Not realy, you paint the wood, not lather it. The wood absorbs the oil, not the concrete.
@judgemondgeboren

@@manofwar556 I was speaking for experience though. Concrete does get stained with the oil and it becomes a huge issue, even though the wood gets its desired protective layer. The concrete gets stained with a tiny layer as well, although tiny - it is VERY capable of causing problems. Best to just avoid using oil. : /

Dont use oil, go to the builders supplies and get a can of concrete mould release this will let the brick out of the mould without the later problems oil causes.

Looking straight down at such blocks from above, each has an end with a crotch and an end with a neck. Fair way to put it. The distance from the inside of the crotch to its hole should be the same as the distance from the outside of the neck to its hole, and should be half the distance from hole to hole. Now all holes in a row are equidistant apart, such that when you stagger the rows all the holes still line up vertically and can therefore receive reinforcement. It means, in other words, that from the top of a completed wall (before capping it off) any of the holes can be filled with sluice (runny cement) and then fitted with a piece of rebar the same length as the height of the wall.
@yoshisaidit7250
@yoshisaidit7250 Жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking. can reinforce with the same pvc tube used to make the brick plus run wires thru it.
@thomasraywood679
@thomasraywood679 Жыл бұрын
@@yoshisaidit7250 Nice. Dedicated channels for wiring. Doubly protected. Convenient. Also for water, lol. Use a short piece along the way to make sure every brick gets properly aligned. No mortar. However, the pieces of PVC used for the mold itself do need to be artificially given a 1-2mm larger diameter (perhaps by neatly wrapping them in tape), because otherwise the fit will later be too snug to allow PVC pipe [of the original diameter] to be rammed down through the holes. Too, your idea this makes another consideration possible, as follows. Make the bricks only half as thick, just with smaller holes. Here's why. Insulation. You could build one wall, and then another exactly like it, with an air gap of, say, an inch between them. Air, as we know from double paned windows, is a great insulator. Now, in matching fashion for each completed wall, ram PVC pipe down every other hole (or every 3rd hole) to secure it, but leave an inch or so of pipe sticking out the top. That way with elbows and a short piece of pipe you can essentially connect the two walls together before capping them off. (With proper planning, you could even ram some rebar down through the PVC.) All in all, get far better results using the same amount of cement, at least where trapping or blocking heat is desired. Also shorter cure time per brick.
@yoshisaidit7250

@@thomasraywood679 All good ideas. I wouldnt recommend water pipe in exterior walls in freezing climates. They will freeze and burst. Probably destrying the bricks with it.
@thomasraywood679
@thomasraywood679 Жыл бұрын
@@yoshisaidit7250 The beauty of forming both an inside and an outside wall with an insulative air pocket in between is that the inside wall ranks as just that and, naturally, is warmed by whatever heat defines the room. Naturally, that's where plumbing would go. There are also plumbing methods that allow for dead zones (cavities), meaning that there are spaces for the water to expand into if freezing does occur. I'll admit though that I formed my ideas primarily with temperate climate in mind, such as in the Philippines, where people tend to build their own homes forming cement walls reinforced with rebar ...that is, when they can afford it. While bricks by comparison take more time to manufacture, there's also a cost savings to be realized centered around whatever percentage of the brick's volume is actually air. Too, in a tropical environment there's pretty much no end to the kinds of fiber(s) you could mix in, at an even greater cost savings, so long as you apply pressure to the brick while it's curing. Makes for a less friable brick too.

@mikebennett938

This seems to be a standard sand cement mix and the typical 'cure' period is 28 days. What that means is that cement/concrete cures to about 50% of its full strength within 28 days and spends many many years continuing to cure after that time. Engineers typically work to the 50% strength criteria, or about 4 - 6 weeks for making calculations surrounding load bearing decisions etc etc (from memory, it's been a LONG time since I was at uni). For a dry mix like this it will setup and you could move the bricks around in 24-48 hours, depending on the environment. If were going to try this i would recommend spraying down the blocks to keep them moist for the first 2 -3 days, depending on how hot and dry the climate you are working in is. This would assist the bricks in not cracking during the initial drying period.

Drying concrete quickly will drastically reduce the strength. It would be best to cure that concrete under a plastic tarp, a wet cloth, or in a water tank.

Tiempo de fraguación? Cantidad de agua? Cantidad de cemento y arena? *¿Tendré respuesta?*
@thomasguillen5898
@thomasguillen5898 Жыл бұрын

Did I mis-see the building of the mould? Looked to me like the piece of wood forming the female gap of the interlock was smaller than the space left to form the male interlock projection.... these blocks won't interlock.
@Jesses001
@Jesses001 Жыл бұрын
I think he just did not show him cutting it. He places the piece of wood that would create the void for the female end of the brick between the two pieces that would create the voids for the male end. It fits between those. Then he removed that piece of wood, and one step later, brought it back to install it. So we missed that small part of the step.
