How does the final date get put on a monument already in the cemetery? Watch as Wayne Winkleman sets up his equipment and gets the job done.

Wow. I've always wanted to know how these stones were carved! Thanks!

"Trucks are outfitted with computers, stencils, and sandblasters.." 0:20. Meanwhile, it's just some dude name Wayne's old truck filled with dirty 'ol tubs. 😂. This made me laugh so hard. But on a serious note, Wayne and the guys doing this work, do such an amazing job and do it with care and tact. Thanks for this video and sharing their story. Super interesting.

That death date on the right does NOT match the older one on the left. The date appears to be sitting up on a little platform. I see this a lot on stones, and often the depth of the letters/numbers are different. Occasionally the new date is also rotated a little.

I was wondering about this... Does the family ever ask to watch this as it is happening?
@lukemoran65743 жыл бұрын
It does not happen often but every now and then family will ask to watch the process. I never have a problem with it but as long as they are a safe distance from me while I am working (abrasive in the eye is no joke)

The person who engraved our family granite headstone already in the cemetery did not do it deep enough. Is there any way to manually go in and correct each letter?

I've seen waaaaaaaay too many stones messed up with the death year/date off center, crooked, or numbers not even, when added later. . Look around cemeteries and you'll find many examples. My wife's grandmother died in 1988 and the 8s are touching each other and higher than the birth year.
@mkallencrue2 жыл бұрын
@@bobpeckinpaugh2550 obviously people in your area don’t know how to letter. If it’s crooked. They never used a level or measured the proper spacing. My concern is after sandblasting there a block that you can still see. Should be tooled and blended to match

Just curious what brand/type of blast sand you use?
@johnmason12392 жыл бұрын
Iam wondering too, it will be industral micronised sand, a good professional tool shop that sells blasting equipment should be able to help tell you the grade& appropriate brands.Metal sand blasters wear full body breathing suits&a relatively small amount is vtoxic, Silicosis, lung cancer,emphysema& respiratory diseases are often a v painful slow death without cure, any micronised abrasive particles travels deep into lungs, so really Iam in 2 minds about its use in public,in grave yards the difference is vv minimal, but micronised sand poured by the tonne from trams on corner& hills for traction nr houses is criminal, like pouring asbestos dust by the tonne by some ones house& playgrounds.

Why is it all capital letters at the cemetery? Can a person request a headstone that's not all caps?
@craigwalters82815 жыл бұрын
You can. Its all personal to how you want to see the monument, lettering, design etc. They usually match up the font to what is already on the monument already.

@Pocahontas Littlemanintheboat What are you talking about? I manufacture and install thousands of headstones all over California with lower case letters as well as whatever else the family wants, and the cemeteries are fine with it, old and new. Besides, I would much rather lay to rest in a cemetery filled with individuality than a cemetery that wants everything and everyone to look the same. It's humbling being able to create headstones with a variety of different designs, pictures, letters, fonts, and colors that the family of the deceased decides and I am glad that cemeteries IN California accept them.

EJ most companion headstones (Husband & Wife style) have the deceased spouse information in full and when the living spouse passes away, then their information is added on site. I’ve been in business in Nashville for 17 years and provide this service for families. Hope this gives you clear understanding now.

He did a good job. At my family plots ,who ever did the etchings ,made the numbers or letters unleveled ,also made the add on death dates smaller . or faded .Its best to get everything done at once so you can see it before you die. Put a ? on your death day.

@@BobanOrlovic it does take skill. You can’t just hand this machine to a random person on the street and they will be able to do what he just did on the tombstone.
