The main argument made against Trump being a Russian asset is his policy decisions being in harsh contrast with what the Russians wanted... shit in Crimea, making trade more difficult with Russia, arming Russian enemies, etc.
@SteveGellerMusic5 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisMikeThomas 1. There's plenty of counter-evidence, such as Trump believing the (apparently) Russian conspiracy theory of Ukraine meddling in the election, the refusal by Republicans to put any money toward ballot or voter roll security, the reluctance to implement sanctions on Russia over Crimea, the meeting where Russian officials were able to go and back pictures of the Oval Office and see classified information (which apparently is never the case for other countries), Trump congratulating Putin on an election that was obviously fraudulent, the urging of putting Putin back in the G7, the fact that Paul Manafort was put in charge of his campaign... not to mention Cenk's examples of Russian oligarchs obviously laundering money through Trump, and the fact that Trump kept ordering special opaque rules regarding translators when speaking (only) to Putin... If we're keeping score, Trump has been unusually softer on Russia more often than he has been unusually tougher on Russia. 2. We don't know the lunacy of Trump's 6-year-old brain. Maybe 6 days a week he is completely subservient to Putin, and one day a week his ego gets in the way, or he thinks "I'm such a genius that I'll throw the fake news off the trail by doing something that seems like the opposite of what they think I should do," or he thinks "Oh, really? A world leader other than Putin said I was a great leader with enormous hands? I'll listen to what he wants for a few days, because he obviously has good taste." Just because it seems absolutely obvious that Putin helped Trump win and is trying to help Trump win again, this doesn't necessarily mean that Trump is capable of keeping up his end of the bargain every single day. Just "enough of the time" to justify the situation. I recognize that sometimes our intelligence is wrong, and sometimes intentionally lying. I recognize that an over-emphasis on Russia is being pushed by the MSM and the Democrats as a way to excuse Hillary, a way to keep endless war ramped up, and a way to silence journalists that peddle a narrative which is inconvenient for our corporate overlords, by claiming they're aiding Russia. But I also recognize a preponderance of evidence that Trump's business ties to Russia are obviously crooked, and a seminal reason that Putin was obviously helping him win.

There is plenty of circumstantial evidence against Trump, and circumstantial evidence has put a lot of people behind bars. The reason there isn't more of the evidence Taibbi and the Trump denialist crowd are demanding is because Trump is employing his usual method of tying things, like the release of his tax returns, up in the courts. Taibbi is using the old "I'm an objective journalist" ruse, when in reality there is no such thing as objective journalism. There is only the pretense of objectivity. At least with Cenk you know where he is coming from. Taibbi has an agenda, but pretends he doesn't have one. I loved the goal post shifting in that: The theory is that Trump is an unknowing asset of Putin, completely passive, he just stumbled into it and is not even an important factor, the Russian government would have done what it did anyway, with or without Trump. Matt shifts from 'asset' to 'agent' to 'espionage relationship' within a minute. That's a nice big strawman, if I ever saw one. I almost thought he'd end it with claiming that the allegation was that Trump is a high ranking member in the KGB for 55 years now and basically the inspiration for the tv series 'The Americans'. No one thinks that, Matt. But I think Matt read the Steele dossier in early 2017, didn't like that it also wrote that the "educated youth" was also influenced by making Bernie Sanders someone to 'Bernie or Bust' over and dismissed everything because of the implication that Bernie Sanders might not have been purely a victim in 2016. (Don't get me wrong, I'm a Bernie supporter, I can just accept certain realities about how brainwashing works - multiple things can be true at the same time...) And he then bet on the wrong horse - namely that it is just a conspiracy theory and that there is nothing there - and now he can't accept that that horse died years ago. And his take on what journalists do: Yes, journalists don't just speculate, but journalists also don't ignore leads and evidence, just because they don't have a video tape showing Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in front of the Kremlin, Trump giving a bag with a dollar sign on it to Putin and Putin saying into the camera, 'Yes, my good old KGB-friend Donald, I will destroy the American democracy for you in exchange for that big bag of money." That's not what is alleged, that's not what happened, that's not a form of proof that will ever come out. Because, again, that's not what happened and no one says or even thinks that. So, no, Matt, it's not that everyone else in the world is crazy, you're just a bad journalist here. (Again, big fan, just with this he's risking his good name...) Everybody should just read the Mueller report and maybe the Steele dossier for themselves - they are available with a quick google search - and read into the context, learn more about all of it and make up their own minds. All of this is not really about Trump (or Bernie for that matter), it's about disinformation and chaos and the weakening of democracy. And Matt is not really helping with sorting through the chaos.

If you notice, Katie is also sceptical and weary to say that Trump is a Russian asset because she knows what's at sake. If everyone just starts slinging bullshit without any evidence then we can't trust anyone, can we? It's better to wait and be objectionable. Stop trying to make Russiagate a bigger deal that it is. We already had an investigation done and, reminder, it went no where. That's what happens when you decide a verdict without knowing the facts. Until then, you are just guessing and making noise about something that you don't know for certain. My question has three parts: 1. Does Matt not have the mental faculty for logic? 2. Does he secretly like Trump? 3. Does he secretly like Putin? I get that he's concerned about getting in trouble with his employer. But Cenk said TYT presents news in three parts: 1. Present facts 2. Something something 3. Give their reasoned logical OPINION in their analysis of the facts presented. Matt must think he's the BBC or a thoeretical journalist who's only suppoosed to present facts and not his opinions. Get a grip. At least instead of attacking Cenk with the attitude of 'I do declare! We are NOT that sort of people! We don't do such things!' you give your off camera opinion of what you think is happening. If you were standing on a plank and had to answer about what YOU think is happening with Trump and the only two choices were (1) he's innocent or (2) he's guilty, and the wrong logical answer means you get dropped into shark infeated waters, which do you choose? Be aware of your own bubble!

Cyank is going to be great in Congress but I got to tell you Matt Taibbi totally owns Cynk Youger when it came to pressing him on russiagate in the last 15 minutes of the interview. Cynk just gets hysterical and goes on with emotional feelings and Taibbi very well grounded in logic and facts and journalism completely schools Cynk.

"Grounded in logic and facts?" All Taibbi does is affect a chin stroking blanket skepticism that any half-competent faker could pull off. Unless Cenk brings him the literal smoking gun he isn't interested, and even then he likely wouldn't be interested. As I understand it, this was, essentially, at the heart of the debate in ancient Greece about how to organize a democracy. The other option was voting and an argument against it was that if governments are formed via elections then the people that are good at getting votes get to make decisions instead of, say, random people who later have to live with the results of the decisions when they're inevitably no longer in power.
