I have a horse that is more on the narrow side. Will this still be comfortable for her? Where do you get one of these saddles?

And - finally for the moment (!?) - maybe I'm having a dumb day, but why no throat latch ? Is there absolutely zip possibility the head stall won't come off in a moment of angst - Or is the mantra of DV = No angst?

I never thought about the stirrup placement and spur response with vaquera vs, other riding styles. That explains why my mare acts dead when asking for cues western
@ISOLDAIII6 жыл бұрын
Do you have a Vaquera saddle? Then your legs are in a totally different place. The Vaquera saddle is placed quite high. You also always need to maintain contact when riding Vaquera unlike Western. Doma Vaquera is more like dressage than Western. We also don't neckrein. We do the opposite in fact. I explained a little about this in my last video.

Again you’ve answered LOTS of questions for me (crupper fitting, stirrup placement when mounting etc) I do have a question that I am having trouble getting a straight answer to, and that is how do I determine what size saddle I need for me and my horses..... any help or advice would be appreciated.

Sorry again to bother again but - why no throat latch/strap? I have for years used them and seen many hack/working horses and understood why - but then when watching for example the rejoneadors, the one ear bridle and you here - and wonder why not ??

Sorry I have asked this before in your bridling video - but I'll ask again here - what's the purpose of the "mosquito"?
@ISOLDAIII4 жыл бұрын
SOrry I didn't see this before but replied to it in another comment. I did forget to mention, the reason the flies are kept away is because the mosquero swings from left to right in the rythm of the walk providing the horse has a good walk.So it is also a sign of a good swinging walk where the horse is loose in his body. Even though it is not mandatory in competition it is preferred that the mosquero swings. Feel free to ask whatever comes to you when watching my videos!

@@ISOLDAIII Don't want to be a terminal nuisance - but - you started it (!). At the nub of my queries is your view whether La Doma Vaquera would be a firm basis for any breed of horse/pony for polo and/or polo crosse? So a curb on it's own as you describe and illustrate in your bridling video - absent a running rein, absent a gag, absent a head check (albeit mandatory) absent a hard plated rawhide nose band attached to a standing martingale, absent twisted wire snaffles etc - ridden with weight and legs - so absent the horse looking R or L in the opposite direction of the pull of the neck rein & etc etc if you get my drift. So long question but for 4 short simple multiple choice answers - A. Absolutely go your (my) hardest. B. Maybe but need to know what to do so don't muck it up. C. Totally inappropriate see a shrink sel your horses and try roller blading, D. Sorry 3 multiple choice - I can't think of a D; but you or someone else may??

Love the details you give! I am putting together an improvised Spanish bridle at the moment, as my Andalusian hates his eggbutt snaffle bit. I found a Neue Schule "Slimme Swales" bit that is a new Pelham design that eliminates the pressure on the poll. He loved the bit (miracle!) but maybe I should go back and get the other model that does put pressure on the poll. The Swales is designed for heavy horses that tend to role down behind the bit. My horse doesn't do that. I'm kind of experimenting right now until I know more about what I need and where to get it. What do you think?
@ISOLDAIII4 жыл бұрын
bwci33 if your horse isn’t heavy then I see no reason to eleviate the pressure on the pole. I notice some people are not fans of curbs but remember that there are no sharp bits, just sharp hands. It isn’t possible to ride properly with one hand without a curb. The curb allows you to isolate the mouth so you can do the most of your stearing with your legs and weight. With a curb you can be more precise because it is stable. A pelham is a great option if you don’t have a Vaquera bit. First with two hands and four reins. Then with three reins in left hand and one in the right (the mouthpiece rein). When your horse fully understands the weight aids you can switch to four in one hand and eventually two reins in one hand. Hope that helps!
@bwci334 жыл бұрын
@@ISOLDAIII Thanks! I'll go get the other bit and try that. I think dividing the pressure poll /mouth is a good idea, especially if I am also getting used to this and probably not always perfect using my curb. All those reins!! OMG! I'll keep you posted, and I hope I can make it to Holland for some first-hand training!
