Centering and Changing Text Size in Cricut Design Space

Nancy had asked the following:
PattyAnne!!! I’m in desperate need of help!!! I’ve been exploring my new Cricut Maker and I’m trying to make a simple sign and I can’t adjust my lettering and it’s making me very frustrated!!! I’m wanting this The Cogs Paul and Nancy EST: July 2, 2994 I want it to be centered and The Cogs to be bigger than the rest and then Paul & Nancy , then EST July 2 1994 smaller and I can’t get it right!!!! Please help me to learn to make this simple design!!!!!

OK so I know it was a few years ago that you made this but you saved my life today.. I was going to throw out my laptop out the window as I could not figure out how to centre. I kept being told that the 2 lines of editing had to come up on the editing bars at the top and then told to go to the options with the visuals of centre.. left... right but every time I out a box around my text - the lower bar would disappear and that is where those icons were !! You are my hero !!! Also - strangely no one ever said to double click on the text box to enter so it took me 52,000 hours to figure that out !!! So thank you !! Have a wonderful Christmas

I just got my cricut and have been playing around with design space. I am having trouble with changing the font size after I have put something on my canvas. The only way the "font size" boxes appear is if I open a new text box, but I don't want to add more text, I want to change the size of the text I've already entered. The "align" box isn't visible either. It's as if the whole second tool bar is not showing and I can't figure out how to make it appear without having the text box open.

Thank you! I learned something as well...when using a script font sometimes when I would try to align them after ungrouping and moving them closer, I would choose “align horizontally” and they would all jumble together. Now I know to “align bottom”! Can you also explain at what point you cannot change the font any longer? I know once it’s welded you can’t, but there are times when I haven’t welded that I double and triple click and can’t get the text box to open. Thank you for your videos! They really help!!

I'm doing something similar to this. I'm putting it on glass window pane 9.5" wide x 7.5" tall When I go to cut them it cuts off some of edges of some of the lettering. I've centered all wording vertically & horizontally. Help what am I doing wrong😪

When I went to align and clicked center horizontally it just put all my words all over each other. I have a double line quote in cursive type script. I already moved my letters together now I just want to center my words and both lines so I can weld and it bit when I go to center it becomes a mess.

Hi Christina. I'm sorry but you cannot do that easily (and have it look good) in design space. I recommend you get the silhouette studio business edition. It is not free but a one time fee and you own it. It is linked below most of my videos.

Weird question on centering. When I’m making cards I use a score line. When I center it, and go to fold my card, it comes out crooked and uneven. Should I center horizontally, vertically or just center? Thank you.

I know this lady struggle I’ve been trying to do something very similar. And design space has continued to fail me! What should only take a few mins to make has taken me over two days since it keeps freezing on me, making me lose my project, won’t group or ungrounded, center on alignment, etc. This is the most non-user-friendly software I’ve ever dealt with! About to throw my cricut out the window!!!! I am a pretty tech savvy person but there’s only so much of this crap you can handle when trying to create some thing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve started from square one because it will stop working for me. I’ve even gone out of design space completely and went back in several times. I’ve watched several KZbin videos on how to do things properly but for some reason it’s never that easy for me. Extremely frustrating!!!

I BET you have the lock locked. Look for a lock that may say 'aspect ratio' and unlock it.

Not that I know of. The only other way I know is to do it with Silhouette Software and use it with your Cricut.

Hello!! It is easy!! When you open the project, make sure to click on CUSTOMIZE rather than "make it" and you will be able to edit your text.

Hey! So I’m having trouble with my new cricut. Every time I set up text for draw it’s automatically places the text in the top left corner of the mat even when I specifically place it at the exact dimensions/ measurements / location that I want it. I want to make cards but no card uses text in the top left corner, they are always centered ... Is there a way around this??

What I would do is measure the item onto which are going to put the letters and then draw a box that size in cricket design space and use that as your reference.

Very Nice presentation. Thank You. Question. I have been hunting the web for some kind of software that will allow me to change the sizing of Numerals. Sounds like a snap right? Not. I am a hobbyist with RC Sailboats. I have to fit sail numbers in four places on the sails of most boat classes. Rules dictate a Sail Number height for each class and the position where they will be placed on the sails. The problem comes when the numbers which can reach four digits in length become too wide for the actual sail. What I want to do as an example is, take a 4" height numeral and then narrow the width of the Numeral down to around 1.5 ". So now a Numeral 4 " x 1.5" then place them perhaps .375" apart. Almost none of the services I have searched for in typography, or font sizing applications offer the Narrowing of a letter or numeral while keeping the height. Will this program allow me to do this? How much for the program?

This is easy to do in Silhouette Software. I do see that you have just watched a Cricut video so I need to tell you that you can also resize the numbers there if you unlock the lock and use the arrow key to squish the number in order to make it narrower. I hope this helps.

You cannot. Yes, can be frustrating. MAYBE duplicate the font before messing with it and then if you want to go back to a prior version of it, it will be there?

Susie, Yes, the row of options does change.... Remember..... The Curve tool will only work for text boxes with a single line of text. If you want to curve multiple lines of text you have to enter each line in its OWN text box. ALSO...and this may be what happened to your curve tool, Susie: The Curve tool CANNOT be used on text that has been UNGROUPED TO INDIVIDUAL LETTERS , then re-grouped. ANDThe Curve tool will NOT work AFTER you have welded or flattened the text.
