I would love to have a teacher like you are. The irony is that probably most of students do not see how amazing you are.

You’re the only one Ive seen who addresses all the issues after the initial centering of the ball.

There are a one or two other videos on YT which do this, but they are rare and not always the videos that return at the top of a search. This tutor is exceptional in that she understands how clay can be manipulated on a wheel and she gives precise instruction on how to achieve certain effects. Bravo!!

Great video. Haven’t been in pottery for years but was just able to buy my whole setup, so I’ve had to relearn the skill. Lots of great reminders for me.

Seems so many teachers don’t mention the need to focus on holding, fingers, hands, arms (for at least a full rotation) absolutely still and “bracing” and holding the feet or arms still to do so. They also never mention using elbows to the ribs/resting/setting arms on something to help to hold the hands still (while learning to center). Also, having the foot on the wheel (which can be stepped on to change body, then arm, then hand positions) and it spinning to slow or fast is never mentioned. The part about not taking hands off the clay too quickly was kinda the same thing as keeping the hands still. That was very helpful. I say this because I have met quite a few who could not learn from a college teacher. Makes me wonder if those who end up succeeding much of the time only did so because they would have anyway. All would be potters should never give up. They should just get a new teacher or watch KZbins.

I'm so glad I found your videos!! I'm having trouble centering, but I think I'm just making it more complicated than it has to be. Your hints seem to be what I was doing only a lot less complicated. 👍🏻

thank you! I just started pottery classes though the way I learned to center and cone down seems different then what you are showing (different school of techniques I guess…) but this was still super helpful! Also thank you for saying we dont suck if cant do it just yet! And that it takes practice! Seeing others doing it it seems like oh this is sooo easy but then to actually do it has its own challenges! 😅 Glad I don’t suck just because I am not yet great at it after 3 classes! practice and patience ;)
