Ventoy is a cool Windows utility for creating a bootable flash drive. Just install Ventoy onto a flash drive then copy as many ISO images to the drive as there is room for and have a multi boot. flash drive.

No problem. Not sure why it's defaulting you to a command line interface. Maybe something is wrong with the image or something from your hardware isn't supported so it couldn't start up the GUI. You might have to run through the logs and figure out what's going on, or you could try another bootable disk creator such as Rufus and try that in dd mode to see if it makes a difference.

One Warning: You may have trouble installing the "Server with GUI" option on to a Virtual Machine. Refer to the CentOS release docs for more info.

Hello; I am building a website with Ghost instead of Wordpress. I cant use shared hosting, so my webhost set me up with VPS. Im way out of my league. I have figured out how to log into my server with SSH using terminal - I run Linux Mint. My webhost provider says Centos is installed on my server. But I cant figure out how to access Centos on my server.

Usually accessing web servers remotely requires something using "ssh" which allows you to attach yourself to a remotely running server. This is all done through a command line interface. Maybe to a look at ssh to get you started.

@@miketerrance2171 if you can login via ssh then that's it. There's only a command line interface with most servers. No GUI/Desktop

@Akash Kesharwani - It looks like you have an issue with your keyboard/mouse. You can always use tab to navigate around, but I suggest just stopping the install (shutting off the computer) and figuring out what's going on with the keyboard/mouse or get another set to confirm if it's the computer or installer causing the issue.

How big is the storage disk you are trying to install CentOS on? Also is there any other operating system/data on there?

I tried to install this a few times until I watched your video. I successfully installed Fedora 8 using the USB. However, when I tried to install CentOS is failed. Finally, after watching your video and using the Balena tool, it was clear that there was an issue with the USB drive. Maybe because it was 64GB. I do not know if this is the case. Anyway, thank you very much for your video. I have subscribed and look forward to more videos.

i have read and learned first hand that installing CentOS is more difficult than most other Linux distros and that using a CD/DVD is best...not good news for me

@@wynnhorton1208 - Thanks for your insight! =) Linux can be difficult sometimes, but rewarding as well. I usually have the best experience installing from a bootable usb. Were you able to get CentOS installed and running. The main difference here between most distributions is that you get to select and cater the install to your needs. Definitely can be more difficult than some of the other distros that just force you down a specific path.

@@SavvyNik the installer i used (Universal?) wasn't accepted and CentOS's website said to use Rufus, I think. I'll keep trying.

@@wynnhorton1208 - Sounds good. I used Balena Etcher in order to flash my disk. Other good ones are like you mentioned Rufus and UNetBootin.

I don't have a way to install Cent OS via disk, I would either have to do it via USB, or SD card; I am pretty sure that net install is not a viable option at this moment.

@Bryton Massie - I believe you could. You just need two usb's one for your installer and the other for your storage. You would use the installer to point the "Installation Destination" to the storage usb. Then after running through the installer you'd remove the installer usb and only use the storage. You may have to pre-format the storage usb to ext4 before using it making sure there's nothing on it for recognization by the installer. Good luck :)

Do I need to flash the ISO file to USB stick? Is it mandatory step or I can directly use downloaded ISO DVD1 file in HP server virtual DVD ISO drive and start installation?

If it's a virtual server.. no it's not mandatory in that case just attach the disk directly to virtual optical (cd/dvd) drive and start the machine. You should be good to go then. You might have to mess with your boot order if things don't show up.

@@SavvyNik Thanks for your immediate response :) no its physical server brand new sever HP proliant dl360 gen10 and I am able to install centos 7 on another similar server. I followed same initial boot steps as I did for Centos 7 but when I tried for Centos 8 it says "Starting installer, one moment" but it will never moving forward to installation page. Im struct at this point... !

@@jeyav Could be a corrupt image. You could try redownloading and reflashing the image. Perhaps even with another flashing software like Rufus.

Thanx. Very useful. I'm new to Centos so have a question: after installation and hitting "Reboot" I'm getting"No bootable device -- strike F1 to retry boo, F2 for setup utility ..." , so I have to switch to Legacy mode in order to get centos loaded. Is it OK?

@MrKrusas - No problem, glad you found it useful. Seems strange.. usually you would get that error if the bootloader failed to install, but yeah if you turn legacy mode on you can always turn it back off if things don't work still.

@@SavvyNik BTW. After installation before i hit "Reboot" I've unplugged boot USB and PC hung after "Reboot" press.. No response for long time. So I repeated installation and did not remove USB so after reboot PC started install procedures. So I've installed again from the beginning and removed USB just before PC restarted. Then I had to change to Legacy :) So it works somehow but I cannot tell that I'm a driver. Passenger at most
