I liked the detailed step by step troubleshooting steps to arrive at a conclusion. The 5 options given are real and the recipient has to make a decision, but with a 12 year old I will select changing the both units. My wife, who watches Mike on Roku, doesn't want to take time trying to comment using point and click. We both get great enjoyment from listening to Mike even though we're not in that specific trade. So don't be so quick to judge a person who wants to learn more from other people.

Id do the same thing.. by time you take the time to find the leak and or change out a metering device the customers going to be close to the price of getting a new system. If they don't get a new system what you did was the next best option for this customer. Giving the customer 5 different options is the best as well, customers LOVE options and it shows you care to help them the best of your ability.

Those TAMs and GAMs with stepper motor EEV. Shutdown power at the air handler and restart . When the air handler is running without the condenser the EEV closes all the way down sensing all the heat for so long and they will all short cycle on start up until you restart it together. Learned that the hard way years ago and I hate those TAMs myself.

Give customer 2 options #1 put in a cap then gas and go tell customer if it happens again replace the system # 2 replace now because its definitely going to happen again. I'd assume that the unit is that high up because it's near the water and salt water is never kind to a/c equipment.
