I am considering coming there to teach English. Everything I learn about Costa Rica sounds amazing. I need some of that Pura Vida. Does $900-$1000 a month sound like I can be reasonably comfortable out there?
@golfito.costarica7 жыл бұрын
In a word, yes. Unless you are staying at a tourist class hotel- then lodging can eat up your money. Get a cheap place to live or your room provided with your teaching contract and your budget will go a long way towards a nice CR lifestyle.

Hi - My wife and I are really loving this series of movies from Costa Rica, nice to see Alison taking more of a lead role in this one, we love the sunflower dress !. Food looks really fantastic, esp the eggs rice and beans thing. Some of the places along the roadsides in this place look little more than shacks, but then its more authentic than say Tenerife which has similar flora and fauna but fancy glitzy hotels all around. Love to see you having such a nice time. You deserve it after some of the travel chaos in your other movies. nice one.
@Theendlessadventure8 жыл бұрын
Awesome, glad to hear it! Yeah, there are decent little places near center of town. But some near the outskirts are literally old run down shacks being lived in :o

thanks for sharing - I used this with my Spanish students who are reading a Spanish novel that takes place in Costa Rica. They are reading a chapter about Casado dishes and this was a great way for them to see some of the country and see the food up close. Great job! Attention, class, here is your lesson for today. Gallo Pinto doesn't include egg, although many times it is included (especially at breakfast). If you want to be really cool, you can dispense with the "Gallo" part and just call it "Pinto" (Look! You sound like a local already and will impress evergone around you!). When ordering Pinto, they will give you a whole (entero) Pinto. But you can always ask for half (medio). Next, Pinto always gives you a choice of a side dish, so you can order "Pinto con...". While egg is the norm, you can opt for meat in tomato sauce (carne en salsa), or for vegans: picadillo (picadiyo). You can usually find your options in a steamer. The proper term is "a casado", not "casado". Another cool term. Dispense with Costa Rica, and call the country "Tiquicia" (Tee-kee-see-ah) (Land of the Rico) NO ONE expects THAT from a tourist! Oh, and people speak "Tico" and not Spanish. Hope this helps.

Typically, fried plantains eaten with an entree are riper, therefore sweet. Deep fried plantains, such as used in "chips" are usually green, unripe, so they taste starchier, like a potato chip or the difference in taste between potatoes and sweet potatoes.

Gallo pinto is eaten in all around the country but it is originally from north pacific side(Guanacaste) and the casado is most from the central valley(city side) so if you come back to Limon i hope you try the local food, you will be amazed!

The chicken has caribbean style sauce on it. They put the chicken in a bowl with all the seasoning, then pour some oil in a frying pan with a couple of sugar spoons, when the sugar is brown they add the chicken and fried till is brownish color, then add some coconut milk, thyme, dice tomato, chilli pepper and onion. Finally add an entire scotch bonnet pepper and let all cook till is done. This last added pepper cannot be broken otherwise the food will get really hot.

I lived in CR for several years and this video captures very well the limited food that is truly Costa Rican in that country. Gallo Pinto, Fruit, and Coco. Tostones are not really CR fare, but common everywhere in Central America, Mexico, and Cuba. If you truly want some flavor in the bland world of CR fare, you must travel to Limon and enjoy the Jamaican influence from the food on the Caribe side of the country. I will say the fruit in CR is the best I have had in Central American, especially the pineapples. The Pina is off the chain great. Bottom line is CR food is very bland, but cheap in the sodas like this couple were eating in to film their video. What is the best in CR is the coffee.
